Something I was supposed to remember II
genuinely what the actual… fuck ?
continuously trying to prove that it was mileven all along by reheating byler nachos is so embarrassing honestly like even the writers of these damn characters can’t deny it that byler was destined to be canon bruh
Lmao we have to fucking destroy this company are you fucking kidding me with this shit
Google is transforming Search from a list of links into an AI-powered experience filled with conversational answers, autonomous agents, and
Reminding everyone that this exists, and you can make it your default search engine (as explained here)
imagine the supernatural season one aesthetic if they were boppin around in a prius
john winchester looks at the coat of dirt on the prius. “dean, i wouldn’t have given you this car if you weren’t going to take care of it.” “dad, everyone knows you buy a prius for the fuel efficiency, not for the appearance.” “you’re right, son, my bad. carry on.”
in the pilot episode, the woman in white takes control of the prius on the bridge but then she realizes she’s in a prius so she softly whispers “this is bullshit. i can never go home.”
sam says “we’ve got work to do” and then steps back so he can close the hatchback
because their lives are so stressful, they choose the soothing sea glass pearl color. who wants to worry about visible clear coat scratches when you’ve got monsters to kill
a semi hits the prius during the season 1 finale but, due to its five star side crash safety rating, dean winchester never enters a coma. season 2 is fundamentally altered.
growing up with baz has been my favourite thing in the whole world, because even though i outgrew every version of myself, i never outgrew loving him 🤍🪄
Writing taught me that the most interesting thing about a person is never what happened to them. it's what they decided it meant. two people can go through the exact same thing and build completely different selves out of it. the event is just the event. the story they tell about it is who they become. I think about this every time i catch myself retelling something from my own life and notice i've quietly changed what it meant. we are all editing ourselves constantly.
Because there’s lots of things I love about canon but also lots of things I love to ignore, here’s Baz’s canonical family tree vs how I imagine it (and how I tend to write it in my fics)
I actually need Natasha and Fiona to have two Egyptian parents. That’s so important to me.
(+ it ties well with the timeline i have in my head. to me Natasha was born in 1959, and her parents left Egypt around the time of the Suez crisis (1956) because whoever from the Pitch family was in charge at the time was like “hey! would be nice if you could leave Egypt right about now” (but not that nicely). so Natasha was born and raised on British soil but with two Egyptian parents)
Also I refuse to accept that the Italian person in Baz’s family tree is on Natasha’s side. To me he does indeed have an Italian grandmother but on Malcolm’s side. Gotta bring something that’s not full English to Malcolm’s genes
(+ though I did just notice that Baz mentions some of the Grimms are from Scotland… something to keep in mind) (my personal headcanon for Malcolm is that he grew up in the Newcastle area. so that’s nothern but not As far up north as Scotland lol)
Having a "stupider people have done this" attitude about the things you want to do can open so many doors

I can't believe we live in a world where there's an AI company unironically called "Palantir," and it isn't a parody. It's a real thing. I remember seeing a picture of an advertisement on here and thinking, "This HAS to be a joke. This is too on-the-nose to be real. They wouldn't honestly name an AI company Palantir, after the Seeing Stones from Lord of the Rings that are supposed to offer knowledge, but famously also might be feeding you misinformation from evil sources because 'we do not know who else may be watching.'" But then here I am listening to the BBC News discussing why the CEO of Palantir just published a Manifesto that sounds like it was written by a supervillain.
fun thing, I just read his book. I have a lot of thoughts, namely how he believes defense contract tech companies are the purest form of employee-owned socialist enterprise (before starting Palantir he received his doctorate in socialist studies, and was a socialist, at one point?), but I digress, that explanation of warped logic will be in it's own post later.
But, to get back to the post, he does in fact talk about why he named the company that, and he was practically saying that LOTR is the closest thing to a societal mythos we have, and by naming companies and organizations, regardless of their original perceived goodness, is helping bolster a society that can create a communal shared mythos, and that the Real Problem of our current society is that with ever-increasing irreligiosity, we need to create a new mythos to create a sense of shared identity, and Palentir as an entity (as technology is inherently apolitical) is helping form the cornerstone of our shared identity. He wants to create organizations that use and build known mythos to create a new national identity.
On the same page he even mentions that LOTR-named entities are typically dogwhistles for the alt-right, but he argues that this is not the case as he is not a member of alt-right, and that he wants to reclaim LOTR as a societal mythos and he is doing his part... by creating a surveillance platform explicitly designed for military intelligence and operations, and then integrating them into local police departments as a deterance for the violence (that he says is identical) to the wars and overseas operations that veterans take part in.
By building onto the mythos of societal cannon, they can "help" bridge the gap between military and local actions, bring the intelligence and platforms of war home, to better prepare the American public for war (and to keep foreign ideals from influencing Our Mythos ie, communism).
Yes, it's strange, nonsensical, and such a weird way to try to say "we built a dystopian machine, and named it after a dystopian concept because we're nerds, but ALSO its NOT dystopian or bad, it's just how OUR shared society views it, and allows us to more easily create a unified nationalistic identity by building on the societal mythos we all love"
Kinda feels like sadness is the open space in a snowy field, and those cobalt blue eyes come from a silent Avalon. Bards are everywhere singing about blue eyes and golden hair, the rivers are wide, and the stars never fade.
