“I’ve been looking at this scroll all morning and I’m 90% sure that the scribe didn’t even look at the standard for pyromancies.”

You beat me to it! I was going to add that the reason why wizards and witches always have familiars around is so they can Rubber Duck at them until they realize what the mistake with their spell is!

Outsiders get it wrong and figure the familiars are somehow teaching spells to their owners, but no. It’s just explaining to Firewing what you’re trying to do with this teleportation matrix until you realize that you’ve been using telepathy crystals to power it the whole time like a FUCKING IDIOT!

I've heard that horses are actually omnivores instead of herbivores, or at least there is/was some debate about it. Is there any semblance of truth to that or are people just being assholes and spreading ridiculous "facts"? Also I was not aware that horses had horizontal pupils like goats.

Well, most of the ‘horses are omnivores’ argument comes from a guy that wanted to sell his book about ‘deadly horses’ around 2012, as if having a taste for flesh is required to make these creatures deadly.

But no, a horse is still a herbivore even if it eats the occasional meat, just like a cat is still a carnivore even if it eats a potato chip.

Many stories of horses being fed meat or fish (like Iceland, Tibet) involve feeding relatively soft meat products to horses in otherwise austere conditions, eg not much grass. Horses are a monogastric animal, they absolutely are capable of deriving nutrition from meat that they eat. However, their enormous gastrointestinal tract requires a minimum amount of plant fiber to not do something catastrophic and fatal. Seriously, colic is bad news.

A horse is a highly adapted herbivore and it’s quite capable of happily living its life on a 100% plant diet. Most of the meat eating horse stories seem to be extreme conditions where the horse will eat something to not be hungry, or humans have deliberately exaggerated an otherwise natural survival behavior.

If you give the horse free choice and plenty of food, I’d not expect it to go for the hamburger terribly often over lucerne and molasses. If it’s ‘eat meat or starve’ then yeah, just about everything will give meat a go.

Horses are a lot of things, but I’m not about to stop calling them herbivores.

I used to work for a camp teaching the showmanship merit badge, and we had a horse who LOVED beef jerky, any kind, any flavor. I suspect it was the salt, but it was a neat party trick

Engagement

Would some of you mind sharing any articles or tricks for getting more engagement with a dog?

I think it’s something me and Alice really have to work on but most things I’ve found on engagement focus on toy driven dogs and Alice has little to no toy drive. Pretty food driven though.

I got it! I don’t know that I’ve ever put a video to tumblr before. Trial and error. This is nose work session 3!

So, things I noticed: I need to be better at not rewarding for nose under my hand (you can see him do this at :20, I waited out the first one, anticipated that he would correct it and didn’t stop to think before I rewarded the second nose under hand. Thankfully, he corrected it himself and this behavior is fading as he understands what he’s supposed to do).

I also noticed, and Melissa confirmed, that I need to give more treats and be sure I’m bringing the reward hand all the way to the tin. I’ve always been sparing with treats, not sure why, and it’s a habit I’m having trouble breaking.

I would also add, that the Crucial Concepts of Shaping class really helped us. There was no screaming, no rapid fire offering of behaviors, only some minimal vocalizations and, frankly, he’s a loud boy so I doubt those will ever stop.

why does everyone make those relateable posts about depression meals and list stuff like, half a potato chip and forgetting eat but no one ever talks about the other half of people who overeat from depression? no one talks about gouging yourself with food the second you feel bad because somehow youre convinced food will make you feel better but it doesnt so you keep eating until it does? the weight gain? feeling sick from eating so much? eating an entire bag of chips and a whole carton of ice cream in one sitting without knowing it?? feeling even worse because youre making yourself so ill???

why does no one remember this symptom?
