I love this obnoxiously loud and fancy (and more book accurate) design for the Kingsguard armor. The costuming in general in the show is so fun, really emphasizing how it's an era of pageantry in Westeros. People want to be bright and look expensive more than anything practical, and it makes the contrast to Dunk all the more obvious.

I really love the moment when the two girls are making fun of Dunk and he’s very honestly like “man that really hurt my feelings, you don’t have to be so mean” (paraphrased) and they genuinely apologize. It’s so uncommon in ASOIAF and nails what makes Dunk, and all of AKotSK, different from other stories in Westeros.

He’s kind, he’s sincere, he’s the guy willing to take in an “orphan” when he’s had a shitty day just because it’s the right thing to do. I don’t think you can say the same about most GoT/HotD characters (not a criticism of those shows, they’re just different)

For me, it is worse. D&D had to improvise, make things up when they ran out of the source material. The Dance of the Dragons is a complete story, you just had to add depth to some characters and stick to the narrative. And they failed big time. And yes I know that the sources (Mushroom) are not reliable, but as far as I remember, Alicent Hightower never begged Rhaenyra for mercy, effectively “selling” her children, the very same who were the last thing on her mind before she died.

From the marketing perspective, it makes sense to show Dany as a reason for the blacks to keep going. Oh wait, she ended up as yet another false prophecy. They should have shown John Snow/Aegon instead, He killed the Night king, the Targaryen saved the realm. Oh wait...

alicent finally breaking free from the religious constructs taught throughout all her life. breaking free from the men who imposed their duty and their wishes upon her, until she lost her own self and had to find it again.

then there’s rhaenyra who always chose to be free, and not let the wits of men win against hers, always controversial, now turning to the shackles of duty. stripping herself of hope and a peaceful ending in exchange to fulfill the role of a dutiful prophecy indirectly forced upon her.

Rhaenyra letting the small folk be killed, not helping them and instead making sure that they couldn’t leave, resulting in them and the guards being burnt alive. Watching as they screamed in agony and fear trying to escape, willing to let them all die knowing that Vermithor may not choose any of them anyway.
