Such tragic news...

I was jolted out of sleep this morning by my mom yelling that Kim Joo Hyuk had passed away in a car accident. I thought, at first, that it was a hoax, or that my mom had misunderstood something. But then I checked Naver, and my heart sank. Even in my sleep-deprived state, I remember saying aloud multiple times, “No way, this must all be a lie...” It still hasn’t really registered for me, and every time I think about it, it hurts a bit more. 

I wasn’t a particularly big fan of Kim Joo Hyuk’s acting (actually, I kinda resented him as Taek-ie in Answer Me 1988, which I sincerely regret now), but he was someone I’d seen on the screen multiple times, in movies, dramas, and variety shows. He was a very familiar face and an actor with a bright future ahead of him, and his sudden death is so very tragic. His father was also a famous actor in my parents’ time, and they would always refer to him as “Kim Mu Saeng’s son”, so I think I felt more of a connection there. As well, Heo Jun was one of the last dramas that my late grandpa watched religiously the year before he passed away, and I will always remember him asking me to turn it on for him when he visited us. My parents had also just finished watching Argon just a little while ago, so it was just such a shock to have someone as young and seemingly healthy as he was to die. 

I still can’t believe it, and I get another little shock every time I remind myself of the fact, but I hope he rests in peace...

my drama plate is so full...

Oh my god. Something like 10 dramas started in the past couple of weeks, and I had had my eye on a few of them for a while...namely Buam-Dong Revenge Club and Go Back Spouses. But I never meant to be watching them all at the same time!

I already started While You Were Sleeping a few weeks ago and have been loving it. Am surprised that Suzy is watchable in this. Sometimes she still looks like she’s smiling when she’s not supposed to be, but she’s fine overall. And Lee Jong Seok is just too cute. I love how he’s always saying 아이고 like an ahjussi lol. Ep 7 was creepy as fuck. Holy shit, I knew when the voice of the brother came on the dashcam video during the trial, I KNEW there was something off...and then when the younger sister confirmed it...SHUDDERS. And when the murderer lifted up the tarp. I legit screamed. And normally I like that actor...but now I’m going to be reminded of this role whenever he comes on-screen. At least for the next little while. 

Anyway. I watched the first few episodes of Revenge and Spouses, and both have been wonderful so far:

Buam-Dong Revenge Club: I like how quiet some scenes are. It’s funny, and I love how the team is getting closer especially now with the addition of the high school kid. It’s still a little bit slow, but the kid is smart and kinda cute, and Lee Yo Won’s so adorable in this. She’s like a spoiled baby princess, but she doesn’t hurt others and has a conscience. Just doesn’t understand money. At all. I’m looking forward to whatever else revenge plots they cook up. 

Go Back Spouses: AHHHH the boy who likes Jang Na Ra is SO CUTE. Gah. He’s so shy and all, it makes my heart hurt when I think that the OTP will be Jang Na Ra and Son Ho Joon getting back together. 

Jang Na Ra looks so young. How is she 40??? Son Ho Joon is cute, but so far he’s been getting on my nerves with his constant calling of his ex-wife “ajumma” and telling her that she can’t take advantage of her youth while he goes out to nighclubs freely. He didn’t even think of his kid until she reminded him! Somehow his roles are always so mischievous and annoying that I forget that he’s super good-looking. Like when he was Hae Tae in Answer Me 1994. I remember him as being very annoying. Maybe it was just me. Hopefully he’ll mature in this role...I don’t really blame either side for their divorce because both worked hard in their roles, they just both sucked at communication. Like, didn’t Son Ho Joon’s family actually say that they couldn’t believe he committed adultery? That’s what they were all hitting him for, so I don’t understand why he didn’t just go back and explain himself? Maybe he just wanted to give up because she said she was so unhappy. The scene where they finally both agreed to divorce was sad because I think they’d said it back and forth for a while but never truly meant it, but in the moment they both agreed despite themselves and were shocked at each other’s response. Also, how is their kid so young when they’ve been married 14 years? Why didn’t they have kids sooner? 

I know the doctor villain is evil, but I also can’t hate him as much as I’m supposed to be because the actor was Cha Seung Won’s loyal puppy-manager in Best Love and I can’t help but think of that character when I see him. He was also Park Bo Young’s boyfriend/father of the kid in the film Speedy Scandal, so both of these characters (kinda shy, timid, pushovers) stand out in my mind when I see him. Oh well, I gotta see him for the slimeball he’s playing now haha. 

I dunno how I’m going to juggle all of these dramas every week. Normally I watch them on the day of airing, but I might have to marathon some of these. I only like to marathon once the drama is over, not while airing -- otherwise I like to watch as it airs..easier to avoid spoilers, I think.

Live Up to Your Name

Sadly, I couldn’t bring myself to finish this drama. I still have 4 episodes left and I’m too unmotivated to turn them on. Kim Nam Gil, while adorable, overacts a bit too much in the lovey-dovey scenes. And Kim Ah Joong’s acting is okay, but her face is getting to me a little. I made the mistake of re-watching 200 Pound Beauty last week and was shocked by how much her face had changed since then, so now I can’t help but notice how unnatural her face looks now. 

I’d rather re-watch one of my favourites. Which is exactly what I’m doing, with Pinocchio. I’ve never seen that one through, but I did really enjoy what I did see (through the haze of painkillers for my wisdom teeth), so I’ve started from the beginning and plan to see it through to the end.
