Stranger Things season 1: beneath the superficial image of “peace and prosperity” in 1980s small-town America, there was the painful legacy of countless atrocities committed by the American government in the name of ‘freedom.’
Stranger Things season 4: evil Russians (not Soviets) have sent our All-American Hero to the gulags which apparently still exist in the 1980s and it’s up to us to save him 🇺🇸🦅🫡
There’s probably a term that already exists for this but if there isn’t I’m gonna call it ‘Rambofication’ in honor of its probably most well known instance: Rambo First Blood was about a soldier, John Rambo (that’s his actual name I’m not doing a bit), returning home from the Vietnam war, so traumatized by war that he brought the war home with him to a small town, unable to adapt to life without strict military discipline and hierarchy. Subsequent Rambo movies were about how John Rambo was the only supersoldier tough enough and patriotic enough to kill faceless hordes of dastardly foreign commies.
Ergo, ‘Rambofication’ is the process of a series starting with a relatively nuanced or subversive narrative before its sequels become a shallow embrace of the very narrative it originally subverted. It happens surprisingly often!
"theyll hate you for this" "but theyll be alive" is THE juiciest thing to me
i will ensure you stay alive above all else. even if what i do to make it happen is horrendous. even if it violates all your wishes or moral principles. even if you can never look at me the same way again, even if you hate me for it. because at least if you hate me it means youre alive
First post in like 2 years 😭😭😭

piece of media you feel crazy about at formative age is truly like the hotel california. you can check out but you can never leave
Not to post the kind of cringe to my blog I'm certain not one of my 29 followers wants to see and simultaneously compare my favorite hashtag problematic mid ass anime game to my favorite hashtag problematic mid ass manga but Ouma Kokichi from New Danganronpa V3 is kind of what Uchiha Itachi should have been right. Despicable villain who is posthumously revealed to have actually been covertly trying to help the good guys the entire time. Except Kokichi as a character actually succeeds at this idea because said posthumous reveal is not meant to redeem him, it's meant to complicate him. Nobody tries to tell you he was a hero or actually a good guy all along or always well intentioned, the story doesn't try to frame it that way, he was still in many ways cruel and selfish, it just tells you it was more complicated than him being straightforwardly evil. Itachi fails because the story spends all of its time desperately trying to make him seem completely pure despite the reality of his actions not reflecting that and is consequently kind of obnoxious. Also while Kokichi says directly that it was All According To Cake, he's notoriously full of shit and we are encouraged to not take anything he says at face value. Things were only ever going as according to his cake as you want them to have been, meanwhile the only valid reading as far as Naruto itself is concerned is that Itachi was a supergenius who had it all under control no matter how little sense that makes. In conclusion you basically could have fixed my problems with Itachi by just rolling with the nuance inherent to his character concept instead of trying to dance around it
the girls are fighting omfg
i had a dream miku was a naruto character and she joined team taka and there were bonus pages where she was talking about stupid things sasuke did!!!
In general I kind of roll my eyes when people say "oooohhhh this fan community is sooo toxic" like be serious everywhere on the internet has annoying people and this can largely be avoided by blocking instead of engaging and just generally staying in your lane. Naruto fans are the exception though. You guys are angry all the time
Hey Jealousy by the Gin Blossoms is a SasuNaru song btw. Maybe not to you but it is to me
Naruto tumblr in 2020 is kind of crazy because some of y’all are like “I’ve been sexually attracted to Kakashi for nearly half of my life” and then some of y’all are like “dismantle the military state: here’s why Sasuke was wronged” and then the remainder is just Gaara stans
