Hi there!

Hi! I’m Vicki. If you were tangentially related to academia and on Tumblr from 2013-2019, you probably know me because I ran the JSTOR Tumblr account and it was my favorite part of my job while I worked there, for real. Someone else seems to be doing a bang up job of it now though, wishing them all the best.

Back again to connect more with the Drarry fandom specifically, but I am a fan of, er, fandom in general. 

I’m queer, my pronouns are she/her, and I’m consistently impressed by all the work fandom does.

You know how kids are supposed to be exposed to some level of dirt and grime as they grow up so their immune systems can learn what's a deadly disease and what just causes some slight irritation? And if a kid grows up in a too clean environment they're likely to develop severe allergies or a hyper immune disorder?

I think the over sanitation of the internet is doing similar things to people's psyche.

oh, okay. i see. you think rpf has nothing to do with you. you go on the internet and say heated rivalry rpf is immoral and invasive because you’re trying to tell the world that you care too much about these actors to read fic about them, but what you don’t know is that the rpf is not just a byproduct of their good chemistry, it's not just parasociality, it’s actually the only next logical step.

you’re also blithely unaware of the fact that, in 2011, hbo produced a documentary series about the washington capitals vs pittsburgh penguins stadium series, and then i think it was on livejournal, wasn't it, that sidney crosby/alexander ovechkin hockey rpf began to really circulate widely. and then sid/ovi rpf quickly showed up in the collection of several prolific fanfic writers. then it filtered down through tumblr and ao3 and then trickled on down to miss rachel reid herself, who no doubt was the first to be brave enough to send it to print

however, heated rivalry represents millions of works by countless hockey rpfers, and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from rpf when, in fact, you’re watching a tv show that was selected for you by the same rpfers you're condemning... from a pile of "stuff"

Dec. 31: A fic with a party!

Why I chose it: This fic is so much more than just a fic with a party. It's a gorgeous fic about Harry trying to figure himself and life out after the war, and of course falling in love. BUT! There is a scene where the Hogwarts gang plays Never Have I Ever that ended up as my all-time favorite party-game scene in a fic, it's ridiculously funny.

Summary:

It's the summer of 1998. The battle is over, and Voldemort is dead, but Harry still has more questions than answers. Who is he without a piece of Voldemort's soul in his head? What is he supposed to do now? His friends try to help, but the only thing that can hold his attention—one of the only things that ever has—is Draco Malfoy, out on parole and weirdly hanging around the British Museum. As they keep running into each other, Harry sees that Malfoy is different, and he wonders if he can be someone else, too. Featuring rumpled band shirts, poker games everyone hates, fumbling sex, and a Harry going a little mental over how wands even work.

Draco falls in love at the crudest possible moment. Potter is nude, for fuck's sake, big clever fingers snug around a steaming DOM branded mug that reads What Would You Say You Do Here?

Christ. Probably designed it himself.

"Designed it myself." Potter beams. "Department had a contest." He transfers the mug to his bedside table and says, "Black, teaspoon of sugar, yeah?"

And Draco, who's never told him that, thinks, appallingly, I love you.

He doesn't say it, of course. He says fuck-all, pulls Potter's flannel (!) sheet higher up his sticky chest, and stares at him in horror.

Potter's face flags. "What?"

"Nothing." But Potter, professional poker of bears, sits beside him and braids their fingers together. "Nothing," Draco doubles down. "Just—coup de foudre."

"Er. Okay. Voulez-vous couchez avec moi?"

Abject horror.

"Bolt of lightning," Draco translates, “swear you’ll never speak French again,” then kisses him to ensure it.

Hi, I wrote a sequel to my HD Wireless 2024 fic, Heartbeat, which is about toxic and obsessive Drarry. There's a letter at the end, and this fic is what happens after that letter gets delivered.

Excerpt:

“Took you long enough,” Malfoy says to the plant.

Harry wants to say, I know, and I’m sorry, and I tried. What he says instead: “I have a life, you know.”

He can sense, rather than see, Malfoy’s raised eyebrow. He doesn’t respond.

Harry drags a hand through his hair. His shirt is sticking to him; the sun is harsh and white behind a film of clouds, the spray of the falls indistinguishable from the humid air. He'd apparated ten thousand miles, searched half of Grand Terre, and all he’s going to get is Malfoy’s back. Great. 

“That's it, then?” Harry asks, his heart in his throat, magic sharp on his tongue.

Malfoy lets his head fall forward and his shoulders rise on a deep inhale. He stands and faces Harry. He’s wearing khaki shorts and a loose, button-down shirt, rolled up at the sleeves. His knees are stained red from the nickel-rich soil. He folds his notebook, tucks it into his back pocket, and slips the biro behind his ear. 

“Obviously not,” Malfoy says.

Life is a never ending string of tragedies and delights. You will not be saved by making yourself less noticable.
