A lovely flower that deserves the nourishment of the sun and the kisses of the rain.

Advocate for black lives murdered in Brazil

Marielle Franco was Rio de Janeiro’s first and only black woman to ever be city counselor. Out of 51 elected officials, she was the 4th most voted candidate. Born and raised in favela do Maré, her advocacy for black lives was a natural stance and one that made her message resonate deeply with those who live in Rio’s favelas.

Murdering black people gets you elected in Brazil, a technique our politicians picked up from the United States. Our illegitimate president Michel Temer is wildly aware of this and sent our army to the streets of Rio. This is a classic militarized intervention that doesn’t increase security and kills even more black people than police regularly do. This year is election year and since his popularity is at 3%, Temer decided to instill terror against favelas and black people.

Marielle frequently denounced police brutality. Last week she denounced a murder and took it upon herself to create a comission that fiscalizes the army’s work for human rights violations. This cost her her life. Marielle was murdered two days ago and everything points to the police.

Brazil is going through a coup since 2016. Last year, over 60 activists were misteriously murdered. Please don’t turn a blind eye on us.
