Welcome, dear! My name is Beatrice, the proud mother of the Neitherworld's most infamous twin ghosts, Betelgeuse and Donatello. Our family has been around over 700 years, so we've seen a lot of history. Read about our time in life and the Afterlife in my journal below.

(This journal also ties into my fanfiction epic, "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice: Revelations & Resurrections". It bridges the gap between the cartoon and movies, picking up where the second film left off. This story has a complete sequel, "The Sicilians", and the third story in this series, "A Haunted Amazon" is going up chapter by chapter, about once a week.)

There were a lot of fun quotes this chapter, but here's a fun one that won't give too much away.

“With great power comes great responsibility,” Betelgeuse quips.

Lydia snorts, “Whatever you say, Uncle Ben.”

An eyebrow arched in her direction, the striped specter grins. 

Challenge accepted.

And just like that, Betelgeuse poofs into the kitten version of his recent chonky black and white cat form, and mews at Lydia. Of course, Lydia picks him up immediately, misty eyed and cooing, a victim to his overwhelming cuteness.

“You were saying?” BetelKitten mews.

“Shut up,” Lydia claps back quietly, cuddling him close as she kisses, scratches, and pets him.

I think Wolf's little inspirational speech might be my favorite quote from this chapter:

“Friends, we’ve got an old murder on our hands. A real cold case, frozen stiff. Any clues we might get from the victim are moot cuz the spook won’t talk. Might even try to stop us if we’re revealed. The system that’s got our vic shaking in his shoes watches our every move, hears our every word, and we have to sneak around like rats stealing cheese from a trap. As of this morning, our only lead is a caseworker’s name. Pietro.”

Eyes locked on her fiancé, Janet nibbles her lower lip, like she wants to take a bite out of her future husband and former boss. Lydia does her best to ignore it, but wonders if Janet was this subtle when she and Wolf worked together in the ACU.

The investigation into Richard's murder begins, and meanwhile there's an unfortunate incident at Astrid's school.

I think the best quote of this chapter might be:

Betelgeuse shakes his head. “Every time I hear about Blaire, I just can’t believe Claire Brewster bore crotchfruit,” he says. “I thought the bitch would just skank her way through college and fade into obscurity with a face full of fillers.”

“You’re the last person who should be slut shaming anyone,” Beatrice jabs.

“Touché,” her eldest replies sheepishly.

This chapter has a minor content warning: Blood is mentioned, but not described in detail when Astrid is surprised by her period, which messes with her day. Everyone makes the best of it and the twins suffer through an empathy exercise to understand this specific biological challenge. I tried to keep it simple, not gory because the point is to use as a vehicle for character development, not gross anyone out.

This is based on Mrs. Juice's Journal #21, when Donny, Betelgeuse, and their parents were unliving below London, about to move to America just before World War 1.

Sorry this one's late, too! This is a moment from Chapter 8 of "The Sicilians" when the ghost of Betelgeuse's mother, Beatrice, reunites with him soon after he dies. He hasn't seen her in 20 years, and has done many "objectionable" things since her death, not knowing she was by his side the entire time.
