Question:
When opening a pack, do you look through the cards one by one, or do you go straight for the rare?
i count commons to determine if foil or not, then check out uncommons, then rare
The suspense is important. I go one by one
One by one, canât be disappointed until I see the whole pack!
One by one because, yea, the suspense is important
I go right to the rare, then flip through the commons and uncommons
Straight to the rare. Gonna get the most painful part disappointment out of the way first
If Iâm drafting, I go one card at a time to sort first picks. If Iâm just ripping packs, I go straight for the rare
I open all packs the same. Straight to the rare then back through to the commons. I find it helps me control my draft picks better while still being the spoil sport I am of going to the best thing first.
itâs always amazing to watch adults discover how much changes when they donât treat their perspective as the default human experience.
example: itâs been well-documented for a long time that urban spaces are more dangerous for kids than they are for adults. but common wisdom has generally held that thatâs just the way things are because kids are inherently vulnerable. and because policymakers keep operating under the assumption that thereâs nothing that can be done about kids being less safe in cities because thatâs just how kids are, the danger they face in public spaces like streets and parks has been used as an excuse for marginalizing and regulating them out of those spaces.
(by the same people who then complain about kids being inside playing video games, Iâd imagine.)
thing is, thereâs no real evidence to suggest that kids are inescapably less safe in urban spaces. the causality goes the other way: urban spaces are safer for adults because they are designed for adults, by adults, with an adult perspective and experience in mind.
the city of Oslo, Norway recently started a campaign to take a new perspective on urban planning. quite literally a new perspective: they started looking at the city from 95 centimeters off the ground - the height of the average three-year-old. one of the first things they found was that, from that height, there were a lot of hedges blocking the view of roads from sidewalks. in other words, adults could see traffic, but kids couldnât.
pop quiz: what does not being able to see a car coming do to the safety of pedestrians? the city of Oslo was literally designed to make it more dangerous for kids to cross the street. and no one realized it until they took the laughably small but simultaneously really significant step ofâŠlowering their eye level by a couple of feet.
so Oslo started trimming all its decorative roadside vegetation down. and what was the first result they saw? kids in Oslo are walking to school more, because itâs safer to do it now. and that, as it turns out, reduces traffic around schools, making it even safer to walk to school.
so yeah. this is the kind of important real-life impact all that silly social justice nonsense of recognizing adultism as a massive structural problem can have. stop ignoring 1/3 of the population when youâre deciding what the world should look like and the world gets better a little bit at a time.

I am the love guardian, guardian of the love.
During a conversation with my manager this morning, she mentioned that her managerâ the district managerâ had told her that âWe want people who are passionate about our products. We donât want people working here if theyâre doing it for the money.â
To which the manager (internally, because she doesnât want to be fired), went âyouâve got to be fucking shitting me.â
Hereâs the thing: it is totally possible to do a job for the passion and not be obsessively thinking about the money every minute of every day. In fact, there have been economic studies regarding that very thing.
You know when it starts?
When the employee in question is making $50-75k per year.*
Thatâs the starting point of financial security. Thatâs the point when youâre fairly secure that youâre going to have rent, food, and basic living expenses covered.Â
Iâve worked a lot of jobs over the years. A lot. I saw the same working as a freelancerâ when I charged lower rates, my clients treated me like shit and acted like they were doing me a favor; when I charged more, they respected me as a professional. A newspaper that started out paying me above market wage also treated me very kindly, because they started with the assumption that I was a human being who needs to eat.
In my experience, the employers that insist that your job be your âpassionâ are also the ones that pay you nothing and treat you like garbage. Itâs exactly like abusive people, who tell you that you would put up with their abuse if you âloved them enoughâ. Itâs a way of convincing the victim that theyâre responsible for their own mistreatment, which is absolutely fucked up.
Hereâs my advice to you:
It is absolutely okay to take a job that doesnât pay you what you deserveâ Â youâve got to eat, after all. But donât think for a second that you have a responsibility to that job. If you see something available that pays better and treats you better, take it and donât look back. Donât waste an ounce of sympathy for employers who try to convince you that passion is an acceptable substitute for survival.Â
me as a little kid: when i'm older i'll be so much happier than i am now i'll have friends and a degree and be doing good stuff with my life
me now: i was tempted to put "the bittersweet embrace of death" on my christmas list but then i remembered my family doesn't understand how constant lowkey existential despair works
What the fuck are people doing when theyâre in the shower for 30 minutes
Dissociating
Having an existential crisis.
All of the above + singing.
Rehearsing for conversations Iâll never have.Â
imagining scenarios that will never happen
crying
water warm
feels nice
Literally all of these

A new event has been announced for Pokémon GO. Starting from today at 20:00 UTC until March 29th 2017 a special Water Festival event will be held. This event has Water-type Pokémon including Squirtle, Totodile and Magikarp. Water-type Pokémon will be more common in areas they usually spawn. In addition to that, a special Magikarp hat will be available during the time
There are numerous reports of Shiny Magikarp appearing in the game during this event. They will appear in the overworld as standard but are said to be Shiny in battle and will only be shiny for you, not for other people. Rarity for this is not currently known and there have been no reports of any other PokĂ©mon being shiny at this time. Weâre currently investigating.

an aromantic person staring in horror when they learn the curse can only be broken by true loves kiss
And then sighing with relief when they remember that there are many different types of love out there.
And then going on a rather mediocre adventure to get a kiss from their mom, or their best friend, or their cat.
âMooooommmmmm I got a curse again can you come kiss it better?â
âThis is the third time this month, dear god you need better friends. Iâm getting you a dog.â
The dog is also able to break the curses. Who is a good boy?
