have u guys noticed the phenomenon that's like
- m/f ship between a nonblack man & a Black woman
- it's either canon (e.g. mel/jayce arcane, arthur/guinevere bbcmerlin) or entirely plausible (e.g. prism or coupƩ/robert dispatch)
- fanbase overwhelmingly pairs nb man off with another nb man and disengages from the Black woman character, shunting her into a background wise & sassy caretaker role (for which there is a name) or leaving her out of fanworks entirely
- fans who do this ^ claim it is an expression of love and admiration for the Black woman character, actually, bc the nb man (who may be her canonical partner) "can't handle all that" (he may be perfectly competent and engaged; she may be totally low maintenance; it has no bearing), she's just too wonderful (too much) and out of his league (lacking in flaws and interiority and fan appeal)
have we all observed this and can we see the multiple dimensions in which it is racist āļø i'm not bringing it up to make any beautiful fujos feel bad abt shipping this or that, just to ask for some consideration of what ppl are saying abt Black women when they make their excuses to each other. like you can just not make the excuses. yk?
i'm baack...i think. Kinda. I hope.
[Tip jar!]
sucks that "incel" is just like a generic insult now synonymous with "virgin" bc if people had much of an idea of what incel ideology actually entails, we could have a conversation about radical feminism being quite literally, beat for beat, incel shit for girls
radfems š¤ incels:
basic, inescapable biology dooms me to be a perpetual victim of the Other (Evil) Sex
me and my ingroup are the primary victims of a society that is fundamentally and irreparably broken
99% of people cannot be trusted and will only hurt and disappoint me, so i need to stay sequestered in insular online communities where people won't try to gaslight me into questioning these truths
the outside world becomes harder and harder to bear as people won't accept my reality, and even my once-closest friends reveal themselves to be of the Enemy
eventually i have to accept the fact that nothing will ever, ever change, and i will die alone and deeply unhappy
like radfems also get blackpilled. they fall down pipelines into the deepest darkest extremes of their ideology, and it's increasingly harder to get these people to reengage with the world specifically because their ideology posits that the world is corrupted and divided into Us and Them, and that the ingroup's victim status is biological and innate. it's a system that lends itself naturally to doomerism and blackpilling due partially to the social isolation that comes with it. and it's equally difficult as with incels to "break through" the isolation because these people do not want help whatsoever. they have been thoroughly conditioned to see attempts at helping as Active Victimization and further proof of the rightness of their beliefs
Ok, apparently this needs to be explained. I have a very good reason for censoring certain words and it has nothing to do with disapproval of those words. I have made the mistake of writing "G*nd*r Cr*t*c*l" uncensored, and that was followed by a heavy barrage of abuse from people who searched that term (either hoping to find posts they agreed with or looking for a fight I guess). I am not a fan of getting death and rape threats every day, so I learned from this experience.
Also, someone I believe to be the person behind TMVP got involved, and would set up around 4 new accounts per day with usernames like "Kinky-Trans-Girl" or something just to reblog G*nd*r Cr*t*c*ls who had reblogged me telling them that it "feels good to be raped, you should try it" and similar threats, and it was like whack-a-mole trying to block them all. I do not want to read a G*nd*r Cr*t*c*l pretending to be a trans woman sending rape threats to other G*nd*r Cr*t*c*ls, and I don't want those G*nd*r Cr*t*c*ls to have to read that either.
And all this shit happened because I didn't censor a term in one post. It's not enough to make a small misspelling, because people searching also try those misspellings, and it's not enough to censor just one letter either.
I also do this with "transan***phobia" for similar reasons. I have had a barrage of supporters of that concept find one of my posts before and it was Not Good. It's not just about blocking the individual accounts that reblog me with a nasty comment, it's also about going through the reblogs and blocking everyone who reblogged the nasty comment version of the post (while not blocking those who just reblogged the OP), which I have to do to minimise the chance of a back-and-forth conversation below my post about how stupid I am.
Please don't leave patronising comments or tags like this on my posts, especially if you actually liked the post! Please assume that I might have good reasons for doing things, even if those reasons don't occur to you. I have too much self respect these days to let people talk to me like they're an English teacher marking my homework, so I will just block people who talk to me like this, which will be frustrating for you if you like my posts!
while I'm at it we really do need to be nicer to fat trans girls
Youāve heard of āi didnāt say it was good, i said i liked it,ā get ready for āi said it had some technical problems & didnāt fully deliver on its themes, not that i didnāt like itā
#I voiced a criticism of some of its aspects#which in no way implies I did not like it#āand especially does not imply that I would like to hear a defense of it of the form 'shut up and let people have fun'ā
REALLY endorsing these tags from galileosballs
if you criticize mlw ship because they can't live without each other (very old trope in fiction imo, i want to say) but you happily eat the same trope when it's queer ship. maybe you should check something about yourself.
yeah yeah every Zionist becomes a hard core Zionist because people are so antisemitic and rude to them, every hindutvawadi goes hard Hindutva because of āHinduphobiaā, every man ābecomesā a misogynist because women are just so nasty these days, blah blah blah. No disrespect to people engaging the argument seriously youāre doing the good work actually much admiration itās just frustrating to me how selectively this is understood (why is it so often different for white?)
Visibility isnāt even something exclusive to trans women, trans men get the most visibility when it comes to disability.
Hello white tumblr user. In front of you is a post made by a Black person about their experiences with racism in a fandom you are a part of. Your challenge is to read the entire post without telling them they're making things up or making a big deal out of nothing. You also may not tell them they're wrong to tell people how to enjoy media or that they should focus on real world issues instead. If you fail this challenge the case of live hornets I have implanted in your sternum will unlock, allowing the hornets to sting your insides until you succumb to the venom. You have 60 seconds. Good luck.
Going 'asexual lesbians are valid' doesn't really mean anything if you're gonna continue to shame lesbians who don't want to receive during sex, lesbians who don't want to give during sex, hate on touch-me-nots, pillow princesses and the lesbians scared to eat pussy, say that lesbian discourse only happens bc of lesbians who don't get laid, perpetrate the lesbian bed death myth, keep using 'asexual lesbian' as a synonym for desexualised white feminine lesbian, call sexless lesbian romance friendship and keep making fun of those boring sapphics who only want to hold hands and kiss to girl in red or something. Cus apart from the fact we also make up some of those categories, compulsory sexuality doesn't stop being bad just bc the word 'asexual' is absent. If you wanna do your bit for the ace lesbians, stop replicating compulsory sexuality in gay. Stop using lack of monogamous switch4switch cis lesbian sex as your punchline. Stop seeing us as watered down lesbians and see us as complete for a change.
so wildly obnoxious when you agree with the starting point of someone's stance only for them to hard turn into things you DON'T agree with and now you have to defend the thing that was originally annoying you
"too many authors in the current market are focusing on selling 'spice' instead of telling interesting stories"
"oh yeah, i agree. i started reading one that i heard a lot about and it just wasn't-"
"and it's all of these women reading their fucking mommy porn out in public like FREAKS"
*through gritted teeth* "people should be allowed to read whatever they want, and actually these books should be left alone and you should shut up about it"
As an older queer, allow me to say: the walls of the closet are load-bearing. It is our job as a community to stand in front of that door and tell everyone who wants to peek inside to fuck off.
There are so many reasons a person may choose not to come out and there is no reason a person would owe the public or a stranger that information. Certainly it's not owed simply because someone is famous.
We have fought for decades to make it safer for people to be open and authentic about themselves, but we are not yet there. And even if we were, the closet would still be something we need to maintain for those who are not ready to reveal that part of themselves.
May we never become so obsessed with representation that we forget the sanctity of privacy.
Pedro Pascal fandom please read this.
I was outed by Star Wars fans within moments of AHSOKA being announced back in 2016. It went fine, but it could have gone badly, and I think about it from time to time.
why is fandom less fun when black ppl or aro ppl or trans ppl tell you to check your biases. if its 'just a headcanon' why is it such a big deal that ppl ask you to think about why you made it
why do you never engage with black characters, why do you always think the same type of character is transmasc/fem, why do you only find romance interesting to the point of ignoring plotlines so you can create ships
are we actually just being the fun police or are you just being a bigot. why is pretending we dont exist necessary for your enjoyment

YOU ARE SO CORRECT everyone get more insane about black trans aro women right now
