Okay but this is so cool.

This is the earliest prosthetic eye ever recorded, and the surgery was a success. It appears that it was held in with thread and was worn regularly, with signs of infection in the eye socket showing that it had possibly been worn too much without cleaning.

The whole eye was not gold, instead mostly being made of bitumen with the golden lines inscribed into it in a pattern that some archeologists suggest may be an imitation of the sun, the 8 radial outward lines being sun rays, to represent light. There are also hints of white pigment on the surface, indicating that once part of the eye may have been mimicking the sclera (white bit of the eye).

Some suggest that her eye elevated her status, and based on the responses of everyone here, that’s easily possible.

Ways I Show a Character is Emotionally Burned Out (Before They Even Realize It Themselves)

I love writing characters who think they’re fine but are actually walking emotional house fires with bad coping mechanisms.

They stop doing the things they used to love and don’t even notice. Their guitar gathers dust. Their favorite podcast becomes background noise. Their hobbies feel like homework now.

They pick the path of least resistance every time, even when it hurts them. No, they don’t want to go to that thing. No, they don’t want to talk to that person. But whatever’s easier. That’s the motto now.

They’re tired but can’t sleep. Or they sleep but wake up more tired. Classic burnout move: lying in bed with their brain racing like a toddler on espresso.

They give other people emotional advice they refuse to take themselves. “You have to set boundaries!” they say—while ignoring 8 texts from someone they should’ve cut off three emotional breakdowns ago.

They cry at something stupidly small. Like spilling soup. Or a dog in a commercial. Or losing their pen. The soup is never just soup.

They say “I’m just tired” like it’s a personality trait now. And not like… emotionally drained to the bone but afraid to admit it out loud.

They ghost people they love, not out of malice, but because even replying feels like too much. Social battery? Absolutely obliterated. Texting back feels like filing taxes.

They stop reacting to big things. Catastrophes get a blank stare. Disasters feel like “just another Tuesday.” The well of feeling is running dry.

They avoid being alone with their own thoughts. Constant noise. TV always on. Music blasting. Because silence = reckoning, and reckoning is terrifying.

They start hoping something will force them to stop. An accident. A missed deadline. Someone else finally telling them, “You need a break.” Because asking for help? Unthinkable.

I've been tear gassed straight to the dome several times, this is how you deal with it:

•leave. You're no help to anyone for the next 25 minutes at least, get out of the area

•slow shallow breaths. Try not to gasp, hyperventilate, or scream. As long as you aren't on the verge of passing out, the shallower the breaths the better

• do not rub your face

•you're going to want to double over toward the ground, try not to. If you're in clean air away from the gas, keep your head to the sky. Tear gas is heavy, it wants to stay low to the ground.

•do not use milk, that baking soda concoction, or any other dumb thing you found on the internet. WATER. Rinse the ever loving FUCK out of your eyes, then rinse some more. Keep rinsing consistently, not just until it stops burning. Think you've rinsed enough? You haven't. Do it again.

• wash your face, and pay extra attention to your forehead/hairline. Despite its name, tear gas is actually a very fine powder, and itll stick to you and especially hair. As you run, you're going to sweat, and it's going to drip back into your eyes. Tilt your head back, not forward, while you do this.

• if the burning keeps coming back, you're done. Leave. I know you want to help but you're more of a liability than an asset at that point, and its okay. Come back tomorrow. Dont let your ego get you or others hurt. Go home and take the fucking longest, coldest shower of your life. I'm so serious when I say rinse every single strand of hair on your head.

•get one of these super cheap bottles and fill it with water for an immediate rinse to be able to gtfo of wherever you are. If you have any open wounds, spray them, get the powder and any other debris out.

Finally, something no one fucking talks about: tear gas effects your menstrual cycle and causes miscarriages. Nearly every other woman I knows whos been tear gassed experienced intense cycle changes. Track them. Keep a close eye on it. Once is enough to fuck it up somewhat, and like I said I got it straight to the dome several times and my cycle was fucked for like, 6-8 months, and didn't return to a fully regular and predictable routine until a year later.
