Tainted Love | Scanlan + Maria
mariatonks:
She laughed lightly when Sebastian burped, the sound always made her giggle. “You’re an amazing father no matter what.” Maria stated, smiling at her ex. Once Sebastian seemed to have calmed down she sat him on the floor, allowing him to sit in his pillow-like chair. “That’s good and bad though, when the time comes for her to remember at least she’ll have you.” The Walsh siblings were extremely close, and they showed it in every way. It was nice because they normally showed that loyalty to others as well.
Maria knitted her brows together and leaned back on the couch, her gaze still on Scanlan. “So…about those texts from the other day…” She spoke softly - normally she would throw some jokes out but this time she was very serious. It could have been a spur of the moment thing, or it could be real. Either way she still wasn’t sure what to do with that information.
Maria’s laugh was terribly contagious, causing Scanlan to laugh as well. At Maria’s compliment, he shrugged his shoulders. “Thank you.” It could be difficult for him to connect, sometimes. One of the few traits that he shared with his older brother. He was just awkward from time to time. I don’t want her to remember, he thought, even he didn’t want to remember. Maybe it wouldn’t come back to her, he could avoid it, and everything would be okay. Still, Scully, Cecilia, and Maria wouldn’t treat Sybil the same. Sybil was bound to pick up on it, eventually. “That’s true.” He wasn’t full of words, he didn’t know why he was there in the first place. He should have turned around and left instead of knocking on the door. This was all him trying to avoid things that he couldn’t avoid. He really used to be better at this. It was hard not to be shook up with everybody gone. He leaned on Tabitha for life stresses.
“Right,” He wasn’t going to apologize for it, or say that it was wrong. He was in a perfectly normal state of mind went he sent those text messages. He had been fine at the time. “Sorry, they’re weird. Random, really, I wasn’t thinking.” He was thinking then. About her, as he was now. His brain was a big mess, and if he got back together with Maria, Jace would probably kick him into the ground. Not that he couldn’t fend for himself. He could. Eventually, he got tired of fighting. He could always trust in Jace to bring up shit that people were struggling to get over. “Okay, I was thinking. Too much, I have the tendency to do that.” He shrugged, rolling his eyes at himself.

When he sat next to her, she turned and met his eyes. “I wish we had exact directions but I’m willing to go without them. They need us.” As soon as that statement slipped out of her mouth her mind began to race - what if they didn’t need them? What if they were already gone? Maria shook her head, the thought sickened her. The pack was pure family, even those who didn’t share the same blood. She got rid of the thoughts as best as she could and looked at Sebastian, bouncing around. He was beautiful, and reminded her so much of his father. “How is your sister?” Mar questioned, genuinely curious. The thought of Sybil being back still concerned her but as long as she was getting better it would be okay. Scanlan kept watch and Maria trusted him. Biting her lower lip she got up and picked up Sebastian, crying about something. He cried a lot, actually, and she had no clue why. Maria tried searching things on the internet and asking the local doctor’s but they all said it was typical baby behavior, but her motherly instinct said there was something deeper there.
“I think he misses you.” She said softly, then quickly added, “Not a guilt thing, I just feel like that’s his problem right now.”
Taking her hand, he smiled slightly. “I know. I’ll help, when we do.” They’d have to find a sitter for Sebastian, that wouldn’t be too difficult. Though, mostly everyone in town wanted to help find the others. He wasn’t sure Wanda would be able to do it. For emotional reasons, physical reasons. Not knowing what the outcome would be. Another reason for Scanlan to go, to do it for Wanda. He would have done so anyways, but he needed to get Tabi and Lila out of there safely. Legion, too. They were his family. Sebastian got much of his looks from both parents. Eyes from Maria, like Cecilia had. Lips from Scanlan. Hair, well, Scanlan wasn’t quite sure yet. When she brought up his sister, he raised his eyebrows. “She doesn’t remember much, other than escaping. Memories slowly come back. I don’t know if she knows what she did, and I don’t want to tell her. But it’s going to come back to her eventually.” Sybil was getting better, but he knew when what she did came back to her, it’d be a nightmare. Difficult for both of them to deal with. He wasn’t ready for it. Sebastian’s sudden crying startled Scanlan a bit, he looked as crying child. “Is he alright?” He asked, a huge hint of concern in his voice.
“That could be it.” He wasn’t sure, but it was a possibility. “I’m going to start coming over more often. Be a better Father to him.”

She could see the tension in his body, something she had come to know fairly easily through the years. Maria watched as Scanlan went to Sebastian, her lips forming into a smile. It was nice to see him in this house again with their son - almost like old times. “We’ve all missed you here.” Mar sat down on the couch, crossing her legs as she did so. Recently Cecilia had been watching her little brother and Maria had been working with Margo Emmerson on fighting technique. It had been a while since she’d encountered a real fight and needed some lessons, especially if she planned on rescuing so many of the pack that were taken. The days felt like years without them, especially Tabitha. Tabi kept it light and happy, and without her it was tough trying to smile.
“What have you been up to?” Maria questioned, looking him in the eyes. She missed talking to him, even the dumb conversations about who left the cap off of the toothpaste - it was normally her. “I’m sure you’ve heard of the rescue plan that isn’t really much of a plan.” A laugh escaped her lips, a quiet one though. It was rare to hear a laugh around anyone anymore, though.
Obviously, he missed it there. Being with Maria, with their son. Cecilia hadn’t lived there for a while now she was with Scully, now. It was hard for him to believe. “I missed you both.” He repeated himself, looking over at her. With few of their pack gone, it was tough. Incredibly tough. He yearned for things to be normal again. He didn’t want to lose anyone in the process, either. He could use a gun fairly well, Scully had taught him. He missed talking to Tabi. Having deep conversations with her, or asking for advice, like he normally had. Tabi was great with those things, with mostly everything.
“Not much, really.” Scanlan shrugs his shoulders, he really just hung around. Watched after his sisters. He lived with all women, he was used to that by now. All women related to him, though, was strangely new to him. “I have, it’s hard to know where the place is. How to get there, what to do.” He had been there, but there wasn’t much that he remembered. They put him on some kind of medication, leaving empty spots in his memory. Even how he got out was beyond him. He stands up, going and sitting next to Maria. He leaves Sebastian in his bouncer, looking over at his son and smiling.

The feelings of everything that had happened the past few months were still as strong as ever, and Maria wasn’t quite sure how to deal with them. She wanted to find her pack, to save them, but it wasn’t that easy. On one hand, they needed an organized plan to go in, otherwise they would fail. Another problem was her son, Sebastian. Maria refused to leave him now more than ever. Everyone was on edge, and they had every reason to be that way. When she heard the knock on the door, she put Seb into his bouncer and checked through the peep hole, then opened it. “Hi.” She stated simply, a small smile forming on her lips. Scanlan had that power over her, the same power boybands had over most teenage girls. He made her weak, which was a good and a bad thing.
Mar was aware that he was staying with Sybil, which admittedly made her feel uncomfortable. At one point in time, Maria loved her as her own sister, but that was until she attempted to murder her daughter and brother-in-law. Scanlan was more forgiving, knew of her struggles, loved her despite them. She wished deeply that she could be that way, that she could be perfectly okay with her and forgive her for what she did, but for some reason every time she thought of it, it made her sick. Though Sybil was the least of her worries for now, so she decided not to bring it up or argue with Scanlan.”Come in.” Maria spoke softly, moving to the side as she gave him room to enter.
He was stressed out, to say the least. Dealing with that stress was tough, he wondered if he should go to a psychiatrist. He had Sybil go to one, to try to understand what had happened to her. Whatever that was. He wanted to piece it together like a puzzle, to know what really happened. It didn’t make sense. His sister was a good person, they all knew that. She hid her feelings, but he had always been able to see through her. So, what was it? What caused what had happened? There had to be something, something that made her do what she did. He couldn’t think about it in full. It was too difficult, too painful. He wanted everything to go back to the way it had been. As soon as he saw Maria, he smiled. He wasn’t sure if she’d answer, but she did. “Hey.” He missed her smile. He thought about it often, pictured it, went through old photographs that he had taken of her over the years.
He nodded to her when she told him to come in, and he did exactly that. Sebastian was in the bouncer, and Scanlan went over to him, crouching down in front of his son. Maria was certainly the better parent, Scanlan was eternally grateful for her. It seemed like Sebastian got bigger everyday. It was just making Scanlan feel old, really. He smiled at his son, then looked back to Maria, standing to his feet. He turned to her, approaching slowly. “I’ve missed you two.” Really, he had. He was trying to look for a better job than the one at the cafe, though he loved it. He could find one that paid better, so that he could support his family. Like he was supposed to. He felt awful, as if he had turned his back on them. He hadn’t, he really hadn’t. He cherished them more than anything. Maria was bound to be mad at him for not being around lately.
Tainted Love | Scanlan + Maria
He was living in Sybil’s house.
The same house that got abandoned as soon as his older sister went missing. Assumed dead, he found the body; it was her body, he remembered. The more he thought about it, the more confused he got. The more the memories seemed to changed. He couldn’t think about it, now. Sybil wasn’t living with Scully and Cecilia anymore, Scanlan was living under Sybil’s old roof with her. Putting the pieces of his big sister back together. Maria was still upset about the whole ordeal. So was he. He never showed it, he defended his sister, but he was. He was confused, more than anything. He sought out answers.
Instead of bringing Maria to him, he decided to go visit her. Everyone was still missing, so shortly after Wanda and Tabi’s wedding; that they had both attended. It was hard to believe, it seemed like so long ago. Everyone disappeared two months ago. The two felt empty, eerily quiet. It wasn’t the same town he moved into however many years ago it was. He sometimes wandered the streets at night, took photos of the lights, the stars. Admittedly, he was lonely. He had his family, still, and somehow that wasn’t enough.
He approached her front door, pausing for a moment. He didn’t know what he was going to say, or what he was going to do. They still loved each other. That deep love that formed when they first started dating, it hadn’t left. Maybe it was stresses that separated them, Charolette entering his life. Sighing, he knocked on the door, waiting for her answer. Hoping she would answer.

Nothing Left | Scanlan + Maria
Maria was never one to rely completely on feeling, but this was different. Once she followed her gut and went outside, she saw exactly why. Her slow pace turned into a run as she saw Scanlan, covered in blood - lots of blood. “Hey, hey.” She spoke softly, taking him in her arms. His weight was easy to carry with her strength and she easily got him into the house, her clothes now covered in the same blood he was wearing. Mar left him on the couch but soon returned with bandages and disinfectants. She began dressing the wounds, and finally looked down at him. It hurt her to see him like that, to know that the hunters still weren’t done messing with them. “What happened to you? Do you remember?” She asked both questions slowly, just in case he needed to process it. Of course it was done by the hunters, but what exactly did they do? All the blood pointed to something rather large, but she didn’t want to assume the worst…Though, why wouldn’t she? The hunters weren’t being kind. It had to be exactly what she thought. They wanted to make him a wolf, just like all the others. Her cheeks were red from anger, but she continued to dab his forehead with a wet cloth, glad that Sebastian was with Cecilia and Scully right now.
As she examined his wounds, she shook her head. “You don’t need to talk right now if you don’t feel like it. But I don’t want you to sleep either, cause we can’t guarantee you’ll wake up and that’s something I’m sure as hell not risking.” Maria turned away, muttering curse words under her breath. First her pack, now him. He was part of the pack, and the pack was family, but Scanlan was slightly above them. That was what happened when you fell in love. Either way though, Maria was already pissed and this just added to it. Her blood was boiling and she was prepared to fight.
He felt… winded. Like all the air in world had just disappeared. Scanlan and Maria were well-attached to each other, emotionally. They could tell when something was wrong with the other. In a way, that was a bit of a good thing. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have known that he was out here. Feeling... freezing, among other things. Wounds were nothing but a bloody nose and mouth, slight scars on his wrists and ankles. Nothing hurt more than his muscles, his bones. A fake transformation, without actually transforming into anything. It didn’t work. They tried to turn him into a werewolf, and it didn’t work. Why didn’t it work? His head was in the clouds. Somehow, Maria had managed to lift him up. He didn’t weigh much, but he didn’t expect her to be able to do so. He was impressed, to say the least. His hair blew in the wind, that is, until they got inside the house. She had set him on the couch, and he cringed. He forced himself to sit up, and he took his jacket off, tossing it to the floor. “They put someone’s blood in my arm. I don’t know whose. They tried to turn me into a wolf.” He paused, examining the look on Maria’s face. It felt nice for her to dab his forehead with a wet cloth, the cold was a relief to him. He had been staying with Maria, yes, but somehow they managed to get him. And that worried him. He didn’t want anything to happen to her, too.
He shook his head. “It’s okay. I’m alright.” He wasn’t, but he would be soon. He nodded. He wanted to sleep, only to feel better. He wasn’t tired, more worn out, than anything. Scanlan reached for her hand, and took it. “Hey, I’m alright. I’m okay.” He didn’t want her to get too angry over it. He was going to feel better soon. He just knew that.
