@schizastridxox
does anyone else ever think about how long they've been mentally ill and then notice that you dont even remember what it was like not being sick?
might also just come from my current situation idk.
Schizophrenic people: *struggle to identify our feelings* *have memory problems* *can be traumatized by our psychosis* *can have trouble speaking at all* *are afraid to talk about psychotic symptoms because of the intense stigma*
Nonschizophrenic people: So what do you hallucinate? What are your delusions? How do you feel when those happen?
OH you know what? let's do controversial mental health/psychiatry opinions.
• forcibly institutionalizing psychotic people in times of crisis can not only worsen the situation but create lifelong trauma and further distrust in medical professionals and medication. it should not be a go-to option. believe it or not we still have human feelings despite a disconnect from reality.
• children should not be identified as 'sociopaths' both because antisocial behavior in childhood can be treated and because it's often a sign the child is being abused or neglected.
• people should be able to admit they're suicidal and/or self harming without fear of being institutionalized. with threat of institutionalization they won't get better, they'll just hide it more.
• not wanting to take certain medication does not make you hopeless and 'anti recovery', there are valid reasons why someone may be apprehensive towards medication as treatment and it doesn't make you delusional.
• everyone deserves autonomy in treatment, including psychotic people
• can you tell this post is partially personal rage
• oh well i'm still right about everything

im so scared the rest of my life is gonna feel like this
Me trying to explain to someone that doesn’t have Visual Snow about the static that covers everything I see.
Here’s a gif to demonstrate.
Imagine that, overlayed over your entire field of vision. Even when your eyes are closed. (especially when your eyes are closed.)
*looks up from computer* now wait just one minute
This is a real thing that exists, not intrusive thought. This is the reason I have glasses. I was a little kid, thought it was normal, tried to point them out to my mom, and she freaked out and brought me to an eye doctor. Where we found out I have shit eyesight. And also apparently where she learned what visual snow was.
But. She deicded. Not. To tell me.
(Like she’s also decided not to tell me or my twin that we’re autistic)
So it literally took me more than a decade to find a word for this.
Which is why I made this post.
She mentioned casually last year to her boyfriend that she learned I had visual snow when I was little and I’m jyst sitting there, having already painstakingly figured all of this out on my own like, “and you didn’t think that was worth explaining to me even when I brought it to your atfention?????”
So ueah.
It’s a thing. If you see staticy moving dots everywhere even with your eyes closed, you’ve got Visual Snow.
I HAVE THIS!!~~ I tried asking my teacher in grade 2 what they were, and she just told me to drink water. Never went away. Wasn’t even studied until like 2013 or something. Sorta fun, mostly irritating!
i have this too! no one explained it to me i just found out from a fuckinf sixpenceee post like a fool.
i just thought EVERYONE had static and floaters in their vision. and that afterimages were that bad for everyone.
like even if im not looking into a bright light or my eyes pass over something slightly bright i get afterimages that can be blinding. when i close my eyes i always have after images of anything reflecting even a little light. i didnt realize that was part of visual snow until last year
here’s some more symptoms for anyone curious if they have this:

Different Thought Disorders Common With Those On The Schizophrenia Spectrum / Psychosis Spectrum
Thought disorders are when your thinking process is impaired, often affecting your speech! They’re common in ADHD and autism, but also can appear in those in the schizophrenia spectrum or psychosis spectrum. Let’s talk about them!
Remember, none of these are done on purpose!
Alogia - randomly stop talking in the middle of the sentence, slurred consonants, being unable to grasp the right word, and trailing off into a whisper before ending the sentence
Blocking - suddenly stopping in the middle of the sentence, forgetting what the sentence was about, and then starting a new topic after the blocking
Clang Association - Rhyming or doing alliterations in the middle of the sentence. An example would be “So yesterday when I went to the store door floor more … I mean, yesterday say lay may..”
Echolalia - Repeating what someone says right after they say it or repeating sentences heard earlier. An example would be a mom asking “Do you want icecream” and a child responding “Do you want icecream…. yes!”
Pressure of Speech - speaking rapidly without pausing, loud, and hard to understand
Word Salad - Using a series of words in an odd order making it impossible to understand the sentence, some of the words not having ti do with the sentense at all. An example would be a woman asking “What kind of coffee did you get?” and her friend responding “Several, several berries. Strawberries. Steaming, colours, fruits, red blue pink”
(word salad is often confused for manipulative behaviour, please know that nobody displays word salad on purpose. It is not manipulative. )
Tangentiality - going off topic before answering the question. An example would be, your friend asks “when did you start gardening?” and you reply “My garden has three main vegetables. I love vegetables but my brothers don’t. I haven’t seen my brothers in years, I should call them.”
Stilted Speech - spoken in a formal essay format rather than casual speech, more information than average when explaining, repeating information
(also common in autism spectrum disorder, if you’re on the spectrum you may find yourself doing this more while info-dumping about a special interest)
If I happened to miss any! Feel free to add on!
Do any other psychotics out there stutter and mispronounce words/sentences on accident a lot?
Ex:
Losing train of thought and having to pause mid-sentence
Something like “I’m gonna dempty the trashcan” or “I empty the trashcan” or “I’m trashcanning the empty” or silly stuff like that
Complete gibberish comes out instead of the sentence you intended to say
Feel free to add on?
I sometimes mix phrases or mess up phrases.
For example, I once said “That doesn’t cut the bill,” to my boyfriend. It was an accidental mix of “It doesn’t make the cut” and “That doesn’t fit the bill.”
At the farm: fill abucket of stray (straw hay) and sometimes embarrassingly haw (hay straw)
paranoia is a liar
no one is out to get me
no one wants me dead
i’m not slowly dying
there is no impending doom
paranoia is just an ugly liar
My diagnosis??
So since I last made my own post on here (18 months ago?!) ALOT has changed 😬:
- my diagnosis has changed from ‘depression w psychotic features’ to ‘treatment resistant schizophrenia’
- the ‘treatment resistant’ part basically means that meds aren’t as effective at treating me as they should… v frustrating!!
- I’ve had two day patient admissions to adult psych wards (adults SUCKS)
- still at the therapy farm yay 😁!!
-done a course of art therapy
Finallyyyy
-current meds: mirtazipine, fluoxetine, olanzipine, flupentixol//dipixol (and metphormin and lanzoprozop for side effect control, and two meds for my physical health though can never remember their names!)
*lanzoprozol
