In closing the fear dimension, all of their (the Bus Kids definitely, and no one else is having a great time either) greatest fears came true? That’s what it took to close it? 

Fitz hurt his best friend past the point of no return, physically cut her open and forced the powers she didn’t want back on her. He lost himself to the Doctor, and he (if you’re being lenient) let robots programmed by his alternate personality point a gun at his wife in order to force him to hurt Daisy, or (if you’re not so lenient) he programmed robots to point a gun a his wife so she wouldn’t interfere. He also didn’t fight it, and couldn’t do anything about it. The man who dives through holes in the universe and fakes blood tests risking everyone’s contamination doesn’t like being unable to aid his loved ones, much less be the cause of their pain, but that’s almost all he’s been starting with AIDA and the Framework.

Jemma lost Fitz to the Doctor, which I think “the astronaut isn’t my biggest fear” implied to mean that’s what she’s scared of. She loves him and he just did a horrific thing, and she knows that he hates himself for it, and that kills her. She’s always feared losing Fitz, but watching him turn into someone she knows he would hate has got to be killing her. Plus, she just had to watch one of the most important people in her life torture the other most important person. That sucks.

Daisy’s greatest fear at this point was getting her powers back and destroying the world. I think that was clear by her wanting to stay in the future and stay behind at the Lighthouse when they got back. She’s understandably freaked by the future and it being her fault and was gratefully for the device that was previously used to control and subdue her. Also, she was drugged and tied down while one of her best friends forcibly operated on her, tortured her, to bring this about. She lost the ability to trust one of the people she’s steadfastly relied on since she found this family. Also, Coulson’s dying on her, and May might quit if that happens, plus FitzSimmons aren’t in a steady place right now and Mack wants to leave with Elena, so her family is crumbling. 

In the end, everyone’s greatest fears had to come true for the diminsion to close.

#also to add to the jemma stuff#jemma has ALWAYS seen her role on the team as the protector#a healer#almost maternal in her meticulous care#it’s why that transition from not that kind of doctor to totally that kind of doctor was almost believable#because of course Jemma Simmons knows all the medical knowledge necessary to save her friends#but addition to (almost) losing Fitz to the Doctor#she also was faced with not being able to protect the people she loves#both from themselves and each other#she was literally held at gunpoint to prevent her from saving her best friend from her husband#and the culmination of this episode?#the effects of the fear dimension even after the rift closed?#probably too many to count#but immediately we get Jemma learning that she will have a daughter#but Jemma having that background knowledge that she will die young#that she is going to have a child#the one thing that maybe just maybe she can keep safe#while never coming straight out and saying it#into motherhood#know she won’t always be able to protect her#aos#aos spoilers#jemma simmons (@clearascountryair)

Okay but the thing that gets me the MOST about Fitz’s ring is that its on his bad hand. For the rest of his life whenever he is stressed or confused or anxious or concerned and his hand starts to ache or tremor or clench, he’ll feel that ring and he’ll know that no matter what is happening at that moment, he and Jemma are together forever and nothing is impossible.
