it's canon in my head that every time Scorpius touches Albus, reaches for his hand or guides him elsewhere (pre relationship), Albus' brain just completely short circuits and Scorpius has no idea because he doesn't interpret social cues very well and to him its just another day of prompting Albus to find his words but he doesn't know that HE'S the reason Albus can't find his words
just coming on here to say that i think we got over this a little too quickly:

I don't know why but I think that Scorbus is a kind of ship that would just start dating without knowing how or when it happened. Like their usual hugs and stuff will just take a step further and become kisses on arms and top of the head until they just become kisses on lips and neither of them will know how it happened as they were always comfortable around each other, so just starting with all that at one point felt like nothing to them that they didn't even notice.
But somehow everyone is still surprised when they come out.

I just saw Harry Potter and The Cursed Child for the first time and let me just say…
That is the GAYEST thing I’ve ever seen. Albus and Scorpius are actually in love.

That play is genuinely the closest they could’ve gotten to making them a couple without actually making them kiss.
i just learned about the rewrite of the cursed child script and i gotta tell you im rejoicing. nine year old me who didn’t even know that gay people existed looked at scorpius’ crush on rose and went “no, that’s not…. that’s not right. it’s albus and scorpius who care about each other” and nine year old me is very smug that she was right

something interesting i noticed when rewatching HPCC like a thousand times to write the script was how albus is literally never vulnerable or shy when talking about anything… except scorpius. every time he brings up scorpius with harry (in fourth year) he’s all nervous and worried, like he’s seeking his dads approval, but why? it wasn’t like that at the beginning, when albus was confident and loudly declaring his friendship with scorpius even though harry didn’t like it. only as he got older did he start becoming embarrassed and worried about what his dad might think, because he thinks there’s something wrong with him for liking scorpius in that way. thats why the last scene with harry is so powerful and important for them, because harry is giving albus the freedom to not have to hide/feel bad about his feelings.

this is the original script. harry’s response to albus doesn’t change, but albus’s confession does. in the original script, albus is nervously telling harry about something that he knows his dad won’t like, something that causes him shame and embarrassment, something about himself that he doesn’t like.
in the new version, albus talks about his relationship with scorpius instead of how he wanted to murder delphi, but harry’s reply doesn’t change, leaving the motivation behind his reply to albus the same, therefore leaving albus’s words with the same feeling behind them: shame, embarrassment, guilt. why would albus feel guilty for just wanting to be friends with scorpius? we already know they’re friends, and that harry (now) doesn’t care, and that albus doesn’t care what harry thinks of their friendship. but when it comes to something more, like his romantic feelings, albus does feel guilt because he doesn’t know whether or not his feelings are a good thing, something that his dad will accept. he thinks there might actually be something wrong with him.
personally i think not changing harry’s reply here is like… definitive proof that albus has feelings for scorpius. there is literally zero reason for harry to reply like that when albus is talking about his best friend like let’s bffr 😭😭 anyways that’s it

It's so funny how jkr accidentally made scorbus cannon. Throughout the story scorpius talks about how he likes rose, but the bonding between Scorpius and Albus is just so deep and rich. They're literally soulmates (platonically or romantically but let's be honest romantically) and albus literally calls Scorpius the most important person in his life. The love they hold for each other is just so heartwarming. So jkr maybe homophobic but she definitely gave us cannon gay content.
