a reminder that racism in fandom/nerd/hobby spaces has real life consequences, and is not something you can simply filter or block out of existence. people whine about “serious” topics ruining fandom, meanwhile Black fans are routinely belittled and harassed simply for existing in these spaces.

Honestly having been in the fandom for the entirety of Splatoon 3’s life, I don’t see the current fandom surviving the Switch 2 generation. So many people parrot the game was rushed, and supplying no evidence and expecting you to just believe. And having gone out to find evidence, the only substantial thing was stages being altered close to release, but that isn’t enough to prove anything, and yet people took a single concept art from the back of the first book and tried to use it as a silver bullet. And I’m gonna be honest, with how many venn diagrams of the people making these complaints end up being near circles, it is impossible for me to not feel like most of the Splatoon 3 hate is because the fandom got Octo Expansion, made their fanon version that was far more edgier than the actual game, and then threw multiple temper tantrums because the developers did not, and never were going to go into that edgy territory for the entire series. And then there’s the Splatfests. This fandom was so anti-racism, that it got fucking racist towards the Japanese player base because it couldn’t handle losing a Splatfest. This racism even getting directed to the fucking developers and even fucking Shiver’s VA. All because the fandom couldn’t handle losing a fictional competition with no real prize. And then with how much of the vocal fandom got into the overblown and immature Switch 2 hate train (with bonus points after Raiders was announced), I just do not see the current fandom being the one that’s there when the next console is out. At all.
