I'm currently working on a variety of projects ranging from my first full length novel, a series of short stories, a graphic novel and a variety of TV pilots with a group of writers I know. This blog will serve as a way for me to show you any progress we make and keep you updated with my every day life when it comes to writing and literature as a whole. It’s been a while...

Gosh golly jeepers, it’s been a while since I last did anything ‘official’ on here, but here I am! Trying to make amends for lost time and wasted effort.  So… What’s happened in the forever time since I last posted. Welp, I’ve completed my first book which is in the late stages of editing so I’ll hopefully be at the publishing stage very soon. I have one of my good friends @chibidovahkiin drawing up some illustrations for it which are so far looking fantastic. I’m genuinely excited to see what will come from all of this. I dearly hope that anyone who reads it enjoys it as much as I enjoyed writing it.  I’m currently working with a small group of writers from my hometown (Twitter Accounts: @mark_holloway21 & @IanConnatty) on a variety of TV Dramas which we’re in the final stages of finalising. All we need to do now is give it a last polish and then send it off in the hopes we find the right desk at the right time. I honestly think that the concepts we’ve created are all interesting and enjoyable concepts that people, if we are given the chance to create, would want to watch.  Beside the above, I’ve had major reconstruction with the graphic novel which was the original purpose of the page. Wilson, transformed into Blackwell, where I was going to introduce Wilson as a secondary character at first, to test if he was popular enough to warrant his own title. It has developed further again since then and now is being written up in the form of a novel. If it stays in this format, is to be seen, but for the foreseeable future, Blackwell is my next target for completion. 

Anyway, I’m aiming to keep people more up to date with everything as it unfolds. I really did kind of let this page die a death last time around… Oh well! Until next time.

In 1978, Marvel and Topps produced Marvel Sugar-Free Bubble Gum, which came with original comic strips in each pack. There were 34 different joke strips, and I’m posting them a few at a time here. I do not know who wrote or drew them.

Dear Mr. Bendis, I have an English teacher that has criticized genre fiction feeling it's something geared for younger audience and because of that in class we all read dramatic and personal literature. She's criticized contemporary prose, feeling that readers now don't want to do the work and because of that books are becoming dumber and lazier. You're also an English teacher, do you share the same beliefs?

Obviously I do not share the same beliefs. that sounds ridiculous.

 but forget the mountains of evidence that does not support this claim, when I was a student and as a teacher it frustrates me when teachers use their pulpit to try to limit their students desires and imaginations.

 when somebody stands in front of a room and criticizes something like contemporary prose all I think is: so they rejected your manuscript

  it doesn’t matter what I as a teacher like or don’t like, it’s what inspires my students.  it is my job to use their passions to make them better at whatever I’m teaching.  

 for example, almost every semester I have taught has included students who have a deep love for deep down hard-core manga that I have just not experienced yet. titles I’ve never even heard of and I know some stuff. titles at 1st glance seem like pixies and fairy dust stuff which doesn’t at face value really appeal to me…  I would never stand in their way of applying this passion towards their own work. in fact, opposite.

There’s no comic book [script] format that’s universally agreed upon. All you need to do is be able to write in a way your collaborators – your artist, a colorist, a letterer, an editor, whomever – can know what the hell you’re talking about. There’s a zillion samples by a zillion people out there. For my money, the right way is the one that takes the least amount of typing. Your format isn’t the important part.

Reminders to myself (and any other artsy people who follow me i guess)

-You don’t get better at drawing by avoiding drawing until you are better at drawing.

- You don’t have to make a new masterpiece every day it’s okay if all you drew is a doodle of a bug. You are now +1 bug doodle better at doodling bugs. 

- Also it’s okay if the thing you drew didn’t turn out very good. Everything you draw makes you one step closer to being able to draw good. You are still +1 step better at drawing whatever you drew no take backsies.

- You are the only person who knows if your art didn’t turn out as good as you wanted it to. You are the only person who can see the things in your art that weren’t what you imagined in your head. No one else will know unless you tell them.

- Comparing yourself to other artists just isn’t fair. You get to see all of your art, the best stuff and the worst stuff. You usually only get to see the best stuff other artists make. You don’t get to see that half drawn badly propotioned face they drew at 2 am and immediately scrapped. So don’t compare your badly drawn 2 am face to their best work.

- Just keep making art. The only way you can really fail is if you give up.
