Jae park - Day6
The wind was fierce as we stood on the grassy cliff. His back was facing me as I watched him. No amount of shouting could be heard through the wind; there was no way to let him know you were there with him. His hair was tousled and his jacket was flailing wildly. What was he facing? You didn't know. The shroud of white fog surrounding the two of you prevented anyone from seeing to far ahead. Heck, you could barely see him from the 8 feet distance between you two. The fog has a rustic orange color from what ever was left of the sun.
You battle the wind to reach him. Getting closer, you can see what he is so intensely staring at. Civilization. A wide smile spreads on your face. You’ve searched for other survivors for years. How he managed to spot it through the fog is beyond you. Grabbing his arm, he turns to you. Tears fall from his eyes, but a fragile smile forms upon seeing you. He pulls you into a gentle, but secure hug. You held him tight against yourself.
‘Thank you’ Jae whispers in your ear, still hugging you.
You were confused. He had no reason to thank you, but you brushed it off momentarily. Too overwhelmed with relief and happiness to think too much into it.
The wind starts to calm as he lets you go. He holds your face in his hands, his tears now replaced with only a melancholy smile while looking into your eyes.
‘I love you’ He admitted. The wind now being a subtle breeze allowing you to hear him.
Before you could announce your feelings, he backs away still smiling his wonderful smile. Nearing the edge of the cliff, his back facing the city beyond, he gives a little wave. Tears form in your eyes.
‘I’ll see you soon, okay?’ Jae ended as he took the few more steps back.
You race after him. The tears trailing down your cheeks as you suddenly run towards him. His form starts to slip into the abyss below. You reach out for him, but you grab nothing. You fly off of the cliff side, finally realizing that the disease had taken you.
Jae had succumbed to it about 3 months before, making him see things that weren’t there. He pleaded for you to shoot him before it was too late. You did it. You couldn't watch him suffer any longer.
Falling to your ultimate demise, you smiled for the last time. He was right. You would see him soon. Very soon.
