Hello Rotomblr, I am Janis, of the Disovan Elite Four. Though that's just what pays the bills. My true passion is in restoration of fabric items, so that they don't have to be abandoned like my dear Dolly.

A heat wave is nothing against a goth on a mission.

to be honest I think working on a sewing machine strains my eyes as much as being on a computer does. However, I am incentivized to remain alert and focused by keeping my fingers within stabbing distance of a needle making 60 stitches per minutes.
It's a Juki TL-2000Qi semi-industrial sewing machine and it can probably sew through solid steel.
It does exactly two things, a forward straight stitch and a backward straight stitch, and you'll be GODDAMN grateful it even lets you do that. You want to do zig zags? Get fucked.
Threading it takes about 10 steps and feels like trying to defuse a bomb. It's got a side fed bobbin case that takes an additional 3 or 4 steps to thread. If it's not sharp or strong enough, it'll snap through a heavy duty needle and without even slowing down, no matter stopping, sending the tip flying through the air at speeds capable of sending a piece of straw through a telephone pole. It's compatible with exactly 0 of any other parts from any other brand machine except sometimes needles and it has a palpable air of bloodlust surrounding it.
But it'll sew through 4 layers of denim like a hot knife through butter.
So. Uh. You like ghosts? Textiles? An early middle sword era tablet was found which is the earliest record of knitting being practiced in the Galar region, from an apprentice who complained that her hands would fall off and wished her mother back home well. The tablet was preserved in what we believe to be her mother's home. The woman's remains were well preserved, with a broken femur that had healed and no signs of poor nutrition. Whoever her daughter was, I would like to think she went on to succeed and care quite well for her aging parents.
@togekiss-and-me
Yes, I do. It's lovely to know that even when we were writing on stone tablets, people were still sending their parents letters and caring for them when injured. And, of course, knitting has always been a struggle.
Thank you for this message. It's quite comforting to think about.
I did end up translating it as practice. It's not precise, but it goes something like this:
Dearest [filial respected] mother,
Today I feel as though my [hands/lower arms] will fall off. My master (used to denote specifically a master craftsperson; this is unusual due to the sexism of the era) says i must develop stronger [hands/lower arms] if I wish to keep my apprenticeship. I will not [give up/fail], though; I will pray for strength and I will use the scraps to fill a quilt. Perhaps I should have been a quilter (possibly rag seller?) instead, if I continue at my current pace. My fellow apprentice (female, could also be translated as colleague) says she wraps her wrists tightly in rags before she knits, to keep warm and stable. I will try this. I may as well be a king, for all the strands I regulate (this is generally viewed as a pun, but it's quite difficult to translate. A modern interpretation might be "Call me a politician the way I'm pulling strings left and right.")
I miss the food back home. The city is filled with bruised fruits and unclean (specifically physically unhygenic) gutters, and I long for a simple pie. I have attached half my wages for the month. Please do not refuse; the winter is [brutal/dangerous] and I worry for you. The flock (it is implied from physical evidence and other context that the woman in question raised wooloo) cannot keep you warm like a good fire can. [Difficult to translate name]'s wool is valuable here, for many conmen will try to sell wool that is blackened with coal. The hour is late and my fingers ache; I will try to visit over the summer.
A young woman moving into the city for work and missing the countryside. It seems it truly is a tale as old as time. Or as old as textiles, at least. It's comforting to know there have always been people like this, isn't it?

Because clearly, relating to a pokemon which is born with residual memories of the person it used to be while being functionally dead by many definitions is normal.
My apologies; I’ve been translating early second era Celestican all day and forgot that “people” in this language does not include Pokémon.
What I meant was that the Pokémon I relate to most is sigilyph. They’re guardians of ancient cities, and I’ve been hired recently to help in the campus library.
