Can I show you a special boy named Hallway?
absolutely!
things in fic I'm used to people kind of faking their way through writing about:
the city of los angeles
the city of new york
sex
how drinking alcohol works
how getting high works
how a child of any age speaks
how nuclear physics work
how [my job] works
how debilitating being shot in the shoulder is
how hypothermia works
things I have never before seen someone fake their way through writing about, until today:
what french toast is
read through the notes on this one trust me
Here's some of the notes, starting with the things multiple people brought up:
SHRIMP COCKTAIL:
banahbanah: #flashback to that one fic where Peter Parker frets about drinking shrimp cocktail because of the alcohol
generaldeliciousness: adding: what a prawn/shrimp cocktail is
#why is your character turning it down because they're under 21 #do you think prawn cocktail is a cocktail #this lives in my brain rent-free constantly #the rest of the fic was so normal #and good enough that i'll still re-read it #but bro
And then many, MANY, people wondering if this was actually authour mistake, since Peter really would do this!
POMEGRANATES:
zhajhassa: #haha where's that post that was like someone describing someone eating a pomegranate but they ate it like an apple
thornhands: #once someone wrote persephone biting into a whole Pomegranate #had to stop and stare at a wall for a minute
sungsingsanguine: I once saw someone very confidently write about a character eating slices of pomegranate.
FRUIT TREES:
zagreuses-toast: #given a very endearing glimpse into a writers blindspots by seeing them describe someone sitting under a ''pineapple tree''
salatrash: I remember something about picking watermelons... OF A FUCKING TREE
baander: #cranberry trees
DOUGH/BATTER:
maycelium: #I'm a chef so I'm really used to people not accurately describing how to cook food #But I was surprisingly flabbergasted when someone was writing making a cake and was kneading it. Which uh #Not necessary for cake. It was interesting for sure but just bizarre
livebloggingmydescentintomadness: #the one that drove me nuts was when a character set aside a batch of PASTA DOUGH 'to rise' #pasta doesn't have yeast!! #it does need to REST but it will never RISE #you do not want an airy crumb on your noodles
lovesodeepandwideandwell: #THE ONE WHERE THEY MADE COOKIES BY LADLING BATTER INTO A TRAY
Some other topics:
...I mean it sometimes is? Has this person never been to the suburbs/countryside. Beer garden that's an actual garden with like grass and stuff is pretty common
you can feel the moment in a tv show when a woman who was an independent character suddenly becomes a love interest. its like shackle locking onto her ankle.

Me: *seeing a doctor* Did the test come back positive?
Doctor: *has a doctorate in English Lit* Iâm sorry, itâs a little more challenging than we thought. We analyzed your imagery, and it appears that you symbolize the fleeting nature of the American dream
Me: oh god
I gotta say the "God FUCKING damn it Kris where the FUCK are we" meme was - and still is - a top tier shitpost. That thing had legs and it was MOVING. But I do feel that we missed an opportunity to append a second joke onto it - which is that no matter what obscure media universe they end up arriving to, Ralsei will always show up and find them mere moments later.
A L W A Y S.
He'd always pop out of some innocuous bit of scenery and begin to quote the wikipedia article for the media franchise in question, to the point where his dialogue box overflows.
Very important addition, reblog this version instead
Me, tears streaming down my face, sobbing, as I stare at the stars: itâs just so beautiful
The medieval peasant I went back in time to give a bag of Doritos to, concerned: what terrible and powerful sorcerers they must have in your age, to be able to veil the vault of heaven itself from view, as you say
Me, sniffling: I didnât realize, I canât, itâs so much, I, I⌠are the chips good, at least?
Medieval peasant, trying to make me feel better: theyâre⌠magical, strange traveler

Hey, whatâs Winnie the poohâs favorite color?
Yellow
No itâs red because of his shirt
No, itâs yellow because he loves honey

Ragebaiting my fat dog? More like master baiting my fat hog!!!!!!!!
âď¸Great Hog is displeased by this.
The kingly pig looks taken aback by this statement. "You claim to be 'baiting' our kind?.. A master of it, no less - after all the trust we hsve placed in you?"
- Your relationship with the Hog Society đ is now Unfavourable.
i think its fine to have limited tastes in media if you understand your limitations. like i wont shame someone if they only watch cartoons because thats their choice but i also dont think you can go making hot takes about the horror genre if the scariest thing youve watched this decade was the owl house finale. that seems ill advised.
Is that a pangur and grim reference
wait you might be on to something
