ASEXUAL REPRESENTATION MATTERS

because I didn’t know what asexuality was until I saw it online

because for the longest time, I thought I was just broken

because finding out there was a label for people like me, that there were others like me, was one of the best days of my life

because people still react like it’s impossible, or will go away once I meet the right person

because no one knows what it is and it shouldn’t be my responsibility to educate every single one of them

because I am told that I will get over it

because asexuality is used as a trope for people who are cold and heartless and don’t know how to love

because we are compared to robots or plants

because people think we have been assaulted or traumatized in some way, and that this is just a reaction, and not just who we are

because there is no mainstream media character I can point to that has been identified as asexual

because when even thinking about characters who may be asexual, the only ones that come to mind are written that way as jokes or to make a point about their personality

because people still think the a is for allies

because there are kids growing up right now that feel just like I did and they won’t learn about asexuality until long after they think they’re broken too

because everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes

because we exist and we are here and you can’t keep ignoring us

More Honesty Time

I am asexual... I have always been fascinated with sex...just not in a sexual way like 'normal people' are. I like the way I am...but there's always those stupid comments lingering in the back of my mind. "You're spouse is gonna leave you if you're like this when you're married" "Oh...I feel sorry for you're future spouse" "I'm disappointed in you" "I accept the way you are...I just don't like it" And so on...and so forth. I just cried for an hour because of an anxiety attack that brought these thoughts back. I wish I had more input on this situation (none of my friends are ace). Has anyone ever felt this way before???😭

Dying My Hair

I've been thinking about dying some of my hair a dark purple color (My hair is dark brown). It'll turn to a lighter more faded purple when I wash it. I have so many conflicting feelings about it...

People laugh when I try to explain Canada’s vast climate and geography:

Like how in Manitoba, we have sand dunes in the Spruce Woods Provincial park

They just kind of hang out in the middle of the prairies.

Then there’s the desert in Drumheller, Alberta, complete with wild cacti:

And then there are the rain forests in British Columbia:

…where you can find cute little fluffies like the Spirit Bear.

And then of course we have the tundra we’re so famous for.  It looks a little different in the summer though:

but  in the winter it looks just like you think it would

Then, of course, the Rockies and all their many, many lakes

There’s the fjords in Newfoundland

Our boreal forests look particularly stunning in the fall

We even have beaches…really nice ones too!

…anyway…I think it’s really cool. It’s not all igloos and snow drifts, you know!
