“Whatever you want to believe, Katherine.” Stefan’s voice more snarky than usual. Sure, he’d been in love with her at some point but now? No way. He’d never admit to that because it wasn’t true. Maybe somewhere deep down Stefan still felt something for Katherine but he was sure it wasn’t love. “Loved is the key word. Past tense.” He wasn’t even going to touch on the subject of Elena. Katherine was already getting under his skin far too much for his liking.

“Is that right? Then why did you just kiss me?” Katherine questioned, approaching the other vampire and dragging the tip of her index finger across his arm in a suggestive manner. Did he even have a logical explanation for kissing her just now? Since he claimed to hate her so much, but here he was, going along with their little make out session that she’d initiated. If she hadn’t said what she’d said during that, the brunette was pretty sure that Stefan would have continued it - or even worse. She clearly hadn’t lost her touch and that only made her feel like she had more ammo against him. “How do you explain that, mmh?”

“No, wait!” Another shrill screech escaped Emma’s parted lips when the brunette’s fangs pierced her neck. She squeezed her azure hues shut, and sobbed loudly. Finally, she put two and two together and realized the obvious: the sadistic stranger wasn’t a cultist– no, she was something far worse. “What are you?” The human demanded as her strength felt like it was draining when the vampire literally drained some of her blood. Although she was weak, her flailing and shouting didn’t let up as she desperately needed to escape. 

Once Katherine felt like she’d drank enough from the blonde, she pulled back with a devious glimmer shining in her brown eyes. The vampire used her hand to wipe at her lips, cleaning off the remaining blood as her features went back to normal after another moment. “I already told you. I’m the queen of hell. And you can be my minion.” Katherine commented, her eyes flashing red briefly before she let them go back to their original color again. “In fact, you should be. I could use some eyes and ears around town and you’re perfect for that.”

Stiles’ face formed a lopsided smirk, a light chuckle escaping parted lips then. “You wish you were my biggest fear, Katherine.” He shot back, eyes not faltering from the vampire’s gaze. He caught the glimpse of her eyes darting to his neck and the brunette swallowed a little uncomfortably then, knowing he made an easy target for someone like her. Still, he stood his ground. “Yeah? And why’s that? Didn’t particularly like your dream life?” He sassed her, giving her a more determined look when she brought up Caroline and the fear the blonde was still clearly living with. “Caroline’s a strong person. Stronger than you’ll ever be. She’ll get through this.” Stiles’ voice was filled with disgust as he peered at the doppelganger, dreading the fact that it had been her who had caught him in a vulnerable position.

“I don’t wish, I am. Or do you need me to prove it to you?” Katherine questioned, purposely moving closer and hovering her mouth over Stiles’ neck. Slowly, her fangs descended, but they didn’t touch his skin quite yet. Still, the brunette was highly basking in the fact that he was just a human who was pretty much powerless against a vampire like her. Eyes turned red after another moment, staring at Stiles’ exposed neck and not moving away to spite him. “Is she gonna get through this too? Because feeding’s an intimate thing, Stiles. What would she say if she knew you were cheating on her with me?”

Startled, Emma watched the stranger in horror as said woman attacked her. She froze, her heart pounding. The sociopath before her wasn’t normal like she’d assumed; she was terrifying. “Let me go!” Em managed to choke out while squirming and desperately trying to free herself from the other’s vice-like grip. Great. This lady is as annoying as she is crazy! The blonde thought, wanting nothing more than to strike back– anything to breathe again. It wasn’t right; the brunette was much stronger, so she had an unfair advantage. She kicked and broke away briefly to scream, “STOP!” 

“Stop? But I haven’t even finished yet.” Katherine pouted at the blonde, but she had to admit that she basked in people’s fear and them screaming, begging her to let them go. It was what she’d always loved and whenever it happened, it was like the first time she was witnessing it - it just never got old. Besides, Emma was the perfect victim for her, a perfect person to sink her teeth into because she was young and her blood probably tasted really good because of it. Why would Katherine stop now? “Why would I stop when you just brought me dinner?”

Sure, Stefan knew she was stronger than he was but that didn’t mean he couldn’t try to take her on. When she spoke the way she did, he wanted her dead. Still, he also knew deep down that he didn’t have it in himself to actually kill Katherine. Crossing the room, he reached for his whiskey glass and wrapped his hand tightly around it, unaware of just how angry he really was, shattering the glass in the process. Wiping a flat palm down his face, he began to chuckle, still furious. “What is it about you, Katherine, huh? Why do you get to me like this?” He disliked that she had that much power over him, that she could still pull at his emotions, his feelings.

“Don’t you know, Stefan? Because you’re still in love with me.” Katherine grinned with nothing but mischief swimming in her brown eyes. Clearly, there still had to be something within the other vampire to make him react like this and for her to still be able to get to him this way. “Why else would I still be able to get to you like this? You loved me way before you loved anyone else, let’s be real here. Long before Elena set foot on this earth. You loved me long before you ever loved her, so no matter what you say, I know it was always me first.”

His eyes turned red then, pooling into dark colors, veins trickling out from underneath them, displaying just how furious he was. She had tricked him, hadn’t she? He had played right into the palm of Katherine’s hand, much like he usually did without even knowing it. When she tried to press him to be irate, Stefan tried to ignore her prodding but it proved rather difficult. Jade hues narrowed like darts at the doppelganger and he wished he had a piece of wood to plunge into her heart right about now. Still, he reluctantly and hesitantly released Katherine from his hold. “Get out.” Stefan harshly spat at her, voice an octave lower and full of disgust. “Go.” This was her one chance to leave, to walk out of the boarding house alive. 

“And what if I don’t? What are you gonna do then?” Katherine challenged with a fake pout dancing over her lips. She was having way too much fun to leave now that Stefan was all riled up, just the way she liked him to be. Well, not always, but there were times when the brunette basked in his reactions a little bit too much and right now, that was the case. There was something about an angry Salvatore brother that was just so hot to her, she couldn’t not try to rile them up like this, knowing they’d get angry. “Think you can take me?”

“I am. You got a problem with that?” Stiles practically taunted the vampire now, not showing fear as he stood before her now. “My meddling? Huh. If that’s the case, I’ll gladly ruin every plan you ever have. Why? Because I care. Something you apparently can’t do.” He wouldn’t stand idly by and allow Katherine the pleasure of hurting innocent people, especially those he loved. No, even without superhuman strength and speed, Stiles would fight. He refused to go down a weak mortal, even if he knew he couldn’t hold his own very long against the doppelganger. She had vampire abilities and five hundred years on him. Still, Stiles liked to think he was witty and smart enough to possibly do something about Katherine. Maybe lock her up some day or something so she’d never see daylight again. “Remind me again what you’re so afraid of, Katherine? ‘Cause obviously, you are.” 

“Maybe the question you should be asking is what you’re afraid of, Stiles. But we both know the answer to that already, don’t we? Your biggest fear is standing right in front of you.” Katherine taunted in return, her heels clicking to the ground as she slowly rounded the human, eyes lowering to his neck in a hungry manner - which she wasn’t even hiding. “And if you think you can ruin my plans, think again. I’ll always have a backup plan, just to make sure that you don’t get your way. I told you to get to the bottom of this whole dream thing, you didn’t deliver, so you had to face the consequences. How’s Caroline, by the way? Is she able to leave her apartment without you holding her hand yet?”

Of course, Stefan knew he was right. Prying himself away from Katherine, he used his enhanced speed to pin her to the wall, gritting his teeth in anger now as he peered at the other doppelganger. She’d definitely gotten under his skin, he was sure that was what she’d wanted with this entire display. His hand was firmly pressed against her neck, holding the other vampire in place against the surface of the wall. “I will never allow you to have the satisfaction of knowing how I feel about certain things.” Because if he’d said aloud that he had had real feelings for Katherine once upon a time ago, there’d be a chain reaction of problems that Stefan never wanted to deal with. It was easier to hate the woman for all she’d done to him, how she’d used him in her sick game. 

She knew that by saying these things, Stefan’s anger would arise, but it didn’t matter. Katherine was simply amused by his reaction and how easily she was able to get under his skin. Whenever Elena was mentioned in some way, he’d react so fiercely, which told her that he still cared for her doppelganger a lot - and that made her a perfect target. “You already did just now.” she mumbled, smirking with devious eyes as they continued to connect with his emerald hues. “And what will your precious Elena think if she knew you kissed me? Willingly? Without your humanity being off? Or Caroline or even Damon? You’re such a bad boy, Stefan. Flirting with death and dancing with the devil. Or better yet, kissing her and enjoying it.”

The intense tension growing between the two vampires was enough to render Stefan weak for a moment. He found himself lost in Katherine’s touch as she kissed him and he returned the kiss. Was she right about that too? Had she always loved him? No way, everyone knew Katherine was a game player and that her motives were always purely selfish. Still, he couldn’t stop himself from kissing her back, from his hands falling onto the small of her back, pulling her closer to himself. Maybe he could blame it on some of those vampire urges, maybe not. He’d slipped while his humanity was off too by kissing Katherine then as well. Was this different? He’d made worse mistakes before, hadn’t he? And he knew deep down that yes, a part of him when he was a human male had been in love with Katherine Pierce. “So, what do you call this then?” He finally breathed out, parting from her though his face remained close to the doppelganger’s. “What kind of game is this?” Stefan asked her, his head buzzing from their prior contact. He was referring to them and their recent moments. “There must be some kind of plan somewhere in the back of your mind…”

“Maybe you’ll find out if you play long enough.” Katherine smirked against his lips, not even thinking of pulling away. She knew that this would get to his friends, that this would stir up trouble and that was exactly what she wanted. There was something about getting under people’s skin that the vampire enjoyed and she wasn’t about to stop now. “No rules though, remember?” she reminded him, her lips curving upward into a devious smirk after another moment. “Don’t tell me you didn’t miss this. It’s probably as close to Elena’s lips as you’ll get at this point, but this is way better, isn’t it?“

Despite the fact that Katherine had manipulated him time and time again, it was difficult being this close to the other vampire. Still, Stefan never faltered, his gaze still peering deeply into her hazel hues, lips still pressed together thinly. He retained his silence, simply staring at the woman as she spoke. Why did she have to be right? Maybe that’s what he hated most about Katherine. Every time she tried to get under his skin, she tended to be right. Parting his mouth partially, his breath mixed with hers, despite the fact he didn’t need to breathe. “Maybe you’re right, Katherine. Maybe I don’t give into my primal urges. But you’d like that, wouldn’t you? If I still caused trouble and played games with you?” He would never allow her to have that gratification. He prided himself on being an honorable man, a vampire who didn’t feed on innocent people or harm others willingly. “Why does it always have to be a game with you?” Stefan asked, his voice merely a whisper now as he breathed out. At one point, Stefan had really loved Katherine but he’d never admit that out loud, feeling that she’d manipulated his love even at one point. But deep down, he knew better. Things were vastly different now and for nearly two centuries since he’d turned, he’d learned to hate and loathe Katherine Pierce, blaming her for how his life had changed; blaming her for his curse.

“Nothing I ever did with you was a game, Stefan. It was always real for me, no matter what we did or what happened between us.” Katherine never made it a secret that she truly cared for Stefan. Even back in the day when he was still human, she’d felt that way. The brunette just chose to shield herself by being this way and not letting anyone come close to her because it was better that way. Though she’d never liked the fact that Stefan hated her and that he’d never look at her the way that he looked at Elena. It was just another reason for the vampire to hate her doppelganger since she of course always got the undivided attention of the Salvatore brothers. “You know I’ve always loved you.”
