because we as society need more byler with (wonder twins + elmax + rebelwheeler shenanigans)
byler meet cute where jane usually babysits little holly at the hopper-byers’ house. one weekend, her brother, will, is visiting from college. they’re hanging at the mall and jane suggests they get some ice cream at scoop’s ahoy.
will can now see why. it would take a fool— an idiot, really, not to notice.
“max, this is my twin brother, will.”
the girl behind the counter— max, looks between the two, like she’s studying them. squinting her eyes for good measure before crossing her arms. final verdict.
“twin? i don’t know, jay, i think you’re way cuter.” she smiles, tilting her head. “no offense.”
is he like, interrupting something?
“you should ask her out.” will tells his sister while they wait for their order. jane looks like she has been shot. twice. cold blooded. in the back.
he literally slaps his hand over her mouth, like when they were kids. “why are you freaking out?” will looks around before whispering “you obviously like her, jane and anyone with eyes can see she feels the same.”
of course max brings their order. strawberry milkshake— with extra strawberries, rainbow sprinkles and a fun straw for ‘the cuter twin’ and a vanilla milkshake for will.
he looks at his sister like ‘do i need to explain any further?’. jane stops max before she can leave, asks her if she’s free tonight. max immediately says yes.
as soon as she goes back to work it dawns on jane that she’s the one busy tonight, as she’s the one supposed to look after the wheeler’s kid. so naturally, she starts to freak out. she finally asked max out and she’ll already have to reschedule, or worse, cancel.
thank god, will is there to save the day. tells her he planned to stay in anyway, so he had no problem looking after holly.
also, he’s not letting his sister fumble max.
mike gets holly ready to drop her at the hopper-byers’ house on his way to his wsqk shift like always. but this time, when he knocks, it’s not joyce who opens the door.
he is standing there. awestruck.
“hi! i’m will, jane’s brother. something came up today and she had to go but i hope we can still have fun.”
will kneels to talk to holly, who’s hiding behind mike’s legs now. “you’re holly, right? jane told me you’re a great artist. i’m an artist too. want to go inside and paint something together?”
will raises his hand gently, holly doesn’t think twice before taking it, pulling him inside the house with her.
mike wheeler has never had a girlfriend. mike wheeler had what dustin and lucas would call a ‘thing’ for the guy full of tattoos and long hair at radioshack. mike wheeler forgot to introduce himself to jane’s brother because he was too busy staring.
those things had nothing in common, right?
“you good there, kid? you’re quiet today.” robin presses her hand against his forehead. her chunky rings cold against his burning skin. huh, maybe he is coming down with something.
then, his tongue betrays him. because, why not.
“how do you know if you’re gay?”
robin— who’s 99,999% sure mike saw her and vickie making out the other day but the three of them were just too damn awkward to bring it up, just braces herself for impact.
