Well, we’re halfway through our Kickstarter campaign! To celebrate, let’s upload more ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures!

… I would have posted them anyway…

Looking at these, I do have a tendency to flip my images when it comes to the final drawing. Most of my ‘before’ sketches favour the characters facing right, and most of the final ‘after’ drawings face left. I guess it just feels like they flow more naturally when they face that way. Even the line of action on the figure in the lower image has been reversed in the final version.

More ‘before and after’ images from the Deeper Darkness insanity cards! 

So here are a couple more thumbnails, even more unintelligible than the last!

I mentioned in the previous post that I didn’t worry about the initial idea sketches and how clear they would be to other people, it really didn’t matter that no one else but me could understand what the doodles were supposed to be. So long as I knew, I could take the core concept and tweak them if and when I decided to use them as final card concepts. These two made the cut. 

So the first doodle was supposed to be a guy falling down some stairs. The sketch was just the core idea, and from a really boring angle, but it got the idea onto paper. In the final drawing I just shifted it around so it looked more dramatic. So now it’s a drawing of a guy falling down some stairs… But more dramatic!

 The second one is rats eating a guy’s face. Again, core ideas: eyelid being pulled and the face being stretched. In the final version, I emphasised the skin being stretched to absurd levels, but hey, it’s only as absurd as rats eating a guy’s face!

So here’s a fun thing: ‘before and after’ images!

I was looking through some old notes and found a page of thumbnail sketches I made way back when I was brainstorming ideas for the insanity cards in Deeper Darkness.

I remember coming up with concepts I thought would be fun to illustrate on my way home from the first meeting I had about the game.

As soon as I got back I went on a scribble spree, just trying to get the core ideas down without worrying about how bad the drawings looked. As long as I got them out of my head and onto a page, they’d be safe and I could work into them later.

Some of the initial thumbnails look pretty similar to the final illustrations (like these two) but others ended up changing quite a bit. I’ll post more soon!

Launch time! 

Deeper Darkness is an asymmetric tactical horror board game for 2 payers.

One player controls a squad of 5 German soldiers, trapped within an ancient Himalayan temple. The other controls Nithodeus, an ancient evil feeding on their sanity in order to grow strong enough to escape his prison.

I made all the artwork for the game over the past few months. It’s super exciting to have the chance to turn our idea into an actual game.

Exciting announcement! I've been working on the artwork for a horror themed board game for about a year and a half now, and it’s very nearly done! I'm super excited to finally be able to talk about it.

Deeper Darkness will hopefully be launching on Kickstarter in just under a week, so watch this space! Here are some preview images from just some of the 40+ cards I've illustrated.

This project has been a real labour of love and I’d really appreciate you guys spreading the word.

Buddy Tech Detective

Hi Followers,

As some of you know, I'm an animator currently working at Jellyfish Pictures in London. Last year I was working alongside a group of super talented folks to make the pilot for a new show on amazon prime called Buddy: Tech Detective.

It's a pre-school show aimed at younger kids, and if you have time it would be great if you could give it a watch and a review, even if it's just a couple of words. It would really help the chances of the show being commissioned. Tara Strong also has a couple of voice roles, so that's fun.
