ok (panting and sweating and covered in weird grime and ash) i just got back from instagram and the good news is that the seattle photography scene is a LOT better now than it was 20 years ago, AND slightly ugly middle-aged models are in high demand at the moment. so i may be able to actually make some money finally. the bad news is instagram makes you genuinely and sincerely mentally ill.

this isnt relevant to the last thing i said but to the thing before that: i think there is something about the quality of sunlight at this biome and latitude that makes natural light extremely difficult to use for human photography subjects in fashion contexts. i think this is related to how its impossible to grow healthy, non-etiolated succulents, cacti or basil without a huge amount of fiddling around here. i own a large number of succulents and cacti for the specific reason that people abandon them constantly after being unable to care for them here so i end up picking them up off sidewalks a lot

obviously the pool of models is smaller here than in LA or something but its not just the models. we have fashionable looking people here too. its just extremely hard to photograph them outdoors

wearing the $300 Seven For All Mankind my mom came back from a thrift store with when she was taking care of me after my paralysis incident in 2018. still marveling at how she always manages to find the most expensive and tasteful items and hone in, even if she knows nothing about the brand or clout or whatever. i doubt she paid more than $20 for them, she went to get them for me because i had lost like 20 pounds in the hospital and had nothing to wear. i assume they fit now because of the choline flushing, i am the assless chap these days

edit: unfortunately have to admit that, as with many things, the $300 designer jeans are better and more comfortable than normal jeans, and they are actually long enough, unlike normal jeans. it brings me no pleasure to report this

“Many of the most significant upheavals in recent American political history — from the George Floyd riots to the rise of Antifa to the explosion of pro-terrorist activism on American college campuses — can be linked, in some way, shape, or form, to Cuban influence,” the report says.

As for who these supposed agents of Cuban influence are, the report is remarkably explicit. It names people like Ben Cohen (of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream fame), Mayors Zohran Mamdani and Karen Bass, media figures like Amy Goodman and Hasan Piker, and organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America and the Amazon Labor Union.

The implication is clear: Secretary of State Marco Rubio thinks there should be a modern-day blacklist of the political left in America. In fact, the report explicitly mentions the “blacklists, McCarthy-era investigations and prosecutions” of the 1950s and their effectiveness at dismembering the Communist Party USA.

The 100-page report, titled “Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism,” was released this morning.
