A selection of the art on 12âł square canvases, signed on the reverse by artists from around the country and donated to the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity for their spring fundraiser, the Red Dot Auction. Online pre-bidding at Heritage Auctions. Tickets, $25 per person here. Support arts education in our schools and creativity in all disciplines.Â
Dear Artists and Friends of the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity,Â
Preparations are underway for the Fifth Annual Red Dot Auction benefiting the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity, scheduled for Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1, 2015.  Â
Today weâre writing to ask you to donate a work of art to this yearâs Fifth Annual Red Dot Auction. The canvas provided is 12â square and as last year, we ask that you sign the artwork on the reverse. You may prefer to work on paper or another substrate and thatâs fine as long as we can mount it to the 12â square canvas for presentation the night of the event. The artwork should be signed on the reverse so that bidders at this silent auction will not know who has created which painting.Â
âWhat should I paint?â you might ask. Chuckâs life spanned most of the 20th century and with such a wealth of inspiration why not the life and times of Chuck Jones? That should not limit you to cartoon-related imagery, although many of the most sought after works at last yearâs event were inspired by his Looney Tunes creations; you might be inspired by his love of puns, his enjoyment of painting with watercolors or the fact that he once owned a horse named Lord Mischief.Â
Imagine a world where the laws of gravity donât apply; a world where the space-time continuum can be altered; a world where youâre in control to break the rules. It sounds a lot like the world where the wonderful, vibrant characters created by Chuck Jones live. Imagine then, applying that kind freedom of thinking to your canvas and to the subject matter you choose.Â
Wonât you share your gifts with us and with the Centerâs members and patrons? If you will, please drop me a note with your mailing address and Iâll get a canvas out to you or drop by the Center to pick up a canvas. Whatâs that you say? Youâd like to contribute two works? No problem! Just let me know and Iâll send you two canvases. Have an artist friend who would like to be a part of this exciting project? Please send them my way:. [email protected].Â
Canvases are due back no later than March 15, 2015. Again this year we are partnering with Heritage Auctions to bring the Red Dot Auction to the attention of their over 800,000 subscribers. This online auction will go live on April 1, 2015 and end the evening of Thursday, April 29, 2015. In order to be included in it, your canvas must arrive no later than Sunday, March 15, 2015.Â
New this year! A commemorative poster, similar to the one shown, will be printed; 30 canvases will be selected to represent this yearâs Red Dot Auction. A limited number of the posters will be produced and sold the evening of the event. To be considered for inclusion, your canvas must arrive no later than Sunday, March 15, 2015!Â
Thank you in advance for your generosity, time, and commitment to Igniting Imagination for Life!Â
All the best, Robert
Hey artist and photographer friends! Iâd love to have you be a part of this yearâs Red Dot Auction. You have so much talent, why not share it with the Center and help keep creativity, in all disciplines, alive? RP

Now, letâs see, where were we? Oh yes, although itâs not Christmas, itâs never too early for a little sight-seeing. Original watercolor on Arches paper, 11â x 14â, by Chuck Jones circa 1942, possibly titled âDeck the Hallsâ.Â
Speaking of Christmas, if youâd like to win a chance for a free trip to outer space (or other cool stuff), visit the Urgency Networkâs Chuck Jones page. You never know, you may just end up looking down on the earth from several hundred miles above the planet. Now, thatâs cool.Â
A horse of a different color.Â
Mea culpa for the sporadic postings, but directedbychuckjones has been up to their collective eyeballs in preparations for next weekâs Red Dot Auction benefiting the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity. Please bear with us (the editorial âweâ indicates, at times, that there is more than one of us, nothing could be further from the truth. and now you can debate âfurtherâ or âfartherâ). If youâd like to pre-bid on the art go to Heritage Auctions for details and to view.
Will I see you at the #RedDotAuction on May 9?

The 4th Annual Red Dot Auction
Which Artistâs Work Will You Take Home Tonight?
Spring Gala Fund-raiser Announced for
Chuck Jones Center for CreativityÂ
Costa Mesa, CA: The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity announced today plans for their spring fund-raising gala, The Red Dot Auction, to be held Friday, May 9th, from 7 to 10 PM at the Center located at South Coast Collection (SoCo), 3321 Hyland Avenue, Costa Mesa, California. Admission is $25.00 per person and open to the public. RSVP by May 2nd and receive 5 free raffle tickets when you sign in at the front desk the evening of the event. To buy your tickets online, go to ChuckJonesCenter.org or call 949-660-7791 x 20107.Â
This is the fourth annual Red Dot Auction, first conceived as a fund-raising opportunity for the Center in 2011. The Center, a 501(c)3 public charity, dedicated as it is to inspiring creativity in all people, but particularly in children, was founded in 1999 by animation legend and four-time Academy Award recipient, Chuck Jones.Â
What differentiates The Red Dot Auction from other silent auctions is that all of the contributing artists have signed their artwork on the reverse. Consequently attendees at the event will not know who the artist is when bidding, theyâll only have their heart to follow. âWe wanted to create a fun, engaging silent auction, and to further the suspense of not knowing which work belongs to which artist, each artist received an identical 12â square stretched canvas upon which to create their work of art,â noted Wayne Todd, President of the Council for Creativity, the volunteer arm of the Center.Â
âThe artists who are participating come from all levels of notoriety, skill, and accomplishment, from students to emerging to established artists; we reached out around the world hoping to capture the imagination and appreciation of these artists. We are thankful that they were willing to help us achieve our goal of promoting creativity by providing a nurturing environment where it may grow and blossom,â said Craig Kausen, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Center.Â
Participating artists include Rob Minkoff, director of such critically acclaimed films as âThe Lion Kingâ and âStuart Littleâ; Nick Park and Peter Lord, Oscar-winning founders of Aardman Studios of âWallace and Gromitâ renown; âDora the Explorerâ producer and director, Jeff DeGrandis; Kelly Asbury, director of the box-office-giant animated film, âGnomeo and Julietâ; Eric Goldberg, longtime Disney animator and director; Marian Jones, photographer, author, and Chuck Jonesâs wife.
The Centerâs vision is a world where creativity is known and experienced in all disciplines, by the many, not just the few. This is an important goal, particularly in todayâs world, when arts education is practically non-existent; we are dedicated to reinvigorating the creative spirit and we are doing it through art classes, exhibitions, lectures, and film festivals, all of which spring from the material in the Chuck Jones archive. Jones was a determined saver and his writings, art, and other ephemera from a nine-decade life, along with his philosophy of guiding and nurturing instruction form the basis of our programs.
An important message from Chuckâs daughter, Linda:Â
"The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity is not endowed or financially supported by any deep pockets. The Center relies on small (or not so small) contributions from lots of folks like you⊠I know everyone is asking for contributions, but hope you will consider even a small one to help support all the amazing programs, exhibits, and classes offered and the terrific plans for future growth. Do it now? $5.00? $25.00? All will help."
Make a $100.00 donation and receive a copy of the coffee-table book, âStroke of Genius, A Collection of Paintings and Musings on Life, Love, and Art by Chuck Jonesâ. Make a $15.00 donation and receive a set of 8 notecards depicting Chuck Jones original drawings and/or watercolors.

(Bunnies and Sunshine)
Easter is coming up! And itâs a terrible time for pet store bunnies!
Rabbits are marketed as âeasyâ, short-lived, starter pets, especially during the Easter holidays, but that couldnât be farther from the truth! A healthy, well cared for bunny can live just as long as the average cat or dog- 10-12 years!
Whatâs more, they have more complex needs than a cat or a dog. Rabbits are prey animals and do not behave or show affection in the same way as predators like cats and dogs; they donât deal well with being outside-only animals; they can get sad if theyâre on their own and donât receive enough attention; and if theyâre bought as a male and female couple, they can start reproducing from as early as 5-6 months of age, and they can carry multiple litters at the same time!
They have a specialised diet (NOT carrots!), need a specialised living area (unless you want all your things to get chewed up!), and they need specialised vets! Caring for them costs as much as caring for a dog!
Theyâre a big responsibility!
