Maybe all the twentysomethings are obsessed with cartoons because all the “adult” shows show the same traumas, frustrations, and anxieties we already have to deal with 24/7.
Sometimes you just wanna watch a princess of power or a magical alien child do fancy magic stuff in a lower-stakes world where you can be reasonably sure you won’t be subjected to depictions of extreme violence, gore, assault, and sex without warning, ya dig?
It’s true and you should say it

Refugees Welcome
And this goes to all the other Western countries too
I love the movie credits sequences that show the characters just travelling or relaxing or doing mundane things. They give the sense that even when nothing relevant to our interest is happening and we’re not looking, their adventure continues on.
I HAVE WAITED ALL YEAR TO POST THIS
You grow up and you realise A Bug’s Life was the revolutionary Leftist masterpiece of our childhoods
I’m not even slightly kidding
Ants are the workforce doing the labour needed to survive, and they have to do it twice over to provide for both themselves and for a group of parasites who do nothing but consume the labour of others
The ants work themselves near to death trying to stay afloat
The grasshoppers don’t even need any food. They have tons to spare but still insist on taking the food the ants worked for because they ‘deserve’ it, despite actually contributing nothing of value. The only reason this works is by threatening ants with force and degrading them so they feel weak and worthless, and insisting that the grasshoppers deserve a cut for some vague service they claim to provide to society
In reality Hopper is desperate to stop the ants from thinking for themselves, keeping them ignorant of the fact that he has subjugated ants through threats of power while the ants actually overpower the grasshoppers through sheer numbers.
And should the ants ever realise that the grasshoppers take from them while providing nothing and that revolution is possible, the class system they’ve installed will be finished.
tl;dr feed the 1% to birds
remember when pixar was like… this
Between this and Monsters Inc., early Pixar is definitely sympathetic to the working class and has some amazing thematic work based around it, which is really amazing to see. There’s definitely a shift in their later work thematically (read: post-Disney sale), but some stuff does slip through. It strikes me as more than mere coincidence that Coco featured a villain who stole work and made a fortune off of it, and shortly afterward Pixar artists came forward saying Lasseter stole credit for their work. Maybe not as obvious a message as in A Bug’s Life, but the solidarity aspect is certainly there.
But yeah, between their social and environmental messages, Pixar is a fantastic studio and I’m so glad they make stellar films that can reach the whole family.
The thing about Those White People Baby Names is the way they so poetically express the tension between individuality and rigid conformity. These parents all want to name their child something unique, because they value the concept of uniqueness, yet simultaneously they abhor it in practice… ergo, 30 different spelling variations on the most normative possible names. This homogeneity-masquerading-as-diversity is inseparable from capitalist consumer culture and in fact is directly analogous to the experience of walking into a grocery store and being asked to “choose” between 50 varieties of toothpaste with the same exact ingredients, 12 brands of laundry detergent, etc.
why are some teachers so insistantly aggressive about punishing children for having interests they dont understand?
I remember this shit happening while I was still in school too where anything that was really popular among young boys was instantly labelled a distraction that you could be punished for. pokemon, yu-gi-oh, beyblades, all of them were banned very quickly from my school and I remember on numerous occassions teachers calling them stupid and pointless and going on tangents about how they dont let their children engage in interests like that because it rots your brain. what was the deal? And the main excuse would always be that it was a distraction. Like yeah thats the point pricipal dr.deepshit, children cant be expected to be 100% focussed on their schoolwork for 8 hours a day. they need to have outlets to blow off steam because school is fucking hard. let kids like things you stank asses.
