Thylacine with tangerine
Only one Soviet book about thylacines, by A.Cheglok (А.Чеглок) with illustrations of Vatagin (Ватагин).
It was printed in 1925 year and had price 15 kopeek which made it available for pioneers, labourers and clerks.
Of course, Cheglok shared with his contemporary authors a lot of prejudices on thylacines, e.g. about their strength, predatory behaviour or even stupidity, saying that they were larger than common wolves, they attacked cows and even were ... man-eaters.
Yet there weren't any other books on thylacines printed in USSR after 1925.
(And same prejudices were also repeated in most authoritative Soviet book "Animal life" aka "Жизнь животных" in 1970s).

Thylacine by N. Kondakov for third edition of BSE (Big Soviet Encyclopedia)
An illustration of a thylacine published in the 1887 issue of the French scientific journal Le Naturaliste, as part of an article announcing the arrival of two live thylacines to the menagerie of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris. Both thylacines would die in 1891 due to cold exposure.
Museum.
A sketch I did in Paris natural history museum a few years ago.
In tarot, The Hanged Man represents sacrifice and martyrdom. Sometimes to make progress, we need to sacrifice forward momentum and take a look at the situation from a new perspective.

impression of the past
I'm back with a little dark themed work, pretty appropriate for this month I think
A numbat (Myrmecobius fasciatus), currently classified as an endangered species, and his close relative: the thylacine ( Thylacinus cynocephalus), extinct;
Dappled sun (Thylacinus cynocephalus)
very interesting phenomenon ive noticed is that online thylacine is by far the more popular name online but as far as i know most people in lutruwita, or at least in my area, call them tasmanian tigers. i suppose it's probably because foreign fans are probably more interested in them from a zoological angle?
This was also true in my experience when I visited some years ago. Locals would call them Tassie tigers or simply tigers.
It is hard to think that the tiger, which it must be remembered, is found nowhere else in the world, will become extinct as it has done in other lands. In view of its restriction to our island, we should instead of hunting it out of the rugged fastnesses where it has its home and is doing no harm, endeavour to allow its few remaining years on earth extend over as long a period of time as possible, preserving it for the generations to follow.
The Mercury (Hobart), 1923
The thylacine or Tasmanian wolf/tiger is a marsupial that inhabited Australia and Tasmania. It was finally exterminated in the first half of the 20th century.
