Eco-Friendly Health and Beauty Products
Hello Beauties! Happy Earthday, today I’m excited to be sharing some recommendations for eco-friendly personal care products that help make the world and our self care routines a little bit better! Some are products I own, some are products I am waiting on, and some are products on my wish list! As always, I do my best to find products at the most affordable price possible to make these dope self-care recommendations more accessible to more lovely people like you! I hope you enjoy my selections, and as always thanks for reading <3
1. Reusable Cotton Rounds
A great alternative to traditional cotton balls, these can be washed are reused time and time again! Not only will you eliminate your outgoing waste, you’re eliminating having to re-up your supply. Check out the link to see the ones I just ordered for myself, or stop into your local Dollar Tree for a 3-Pack for just $1.
A great alternative to traditional cotton swabs, one of these kits (many offering all kinds of different tip attachments) can safely and easily remove the wax from your ears. Compact design makes it easy to store and great for travel. Another one-time purchase that helps keep single use items out of land-fills!
This item is actually two items! I just thought it made sense to group them together. When thinking about ways to eliminate waste from your routine Floss is an easy thing to gloss over. When you do stop to think about it though, you’ll realize that most dental floss takes AGES to decompose. Some alternatives to traditional nylon floss include:
-- The second link provided is through an awesome website I recently discovered called Package Free and they have low waste alternatives to ALL KINDS of every day products!
-- The one I’ve listed here is the one I will probably be purchasing for myself as my first try for a water flosser. It’s one of the most affordable I’ve found ($23.99) and is re-chargeable, water-proof, and has multiple attachment heads for detail cleaning of your pearly whites!
Do you ever think about how every plastic toothbrush ever made is still in existence? Traditional plastic toothbrushes take an incredibly long time to decompose, and will live to see many more years on this earth than you or I will. Bamboo toothbrushes are a much lower waste alternative! Bamboo is natural, renewable, and easily decomposable. The pack I’ve linked offers 12 for just $9.99 and they feature charcoal infused bristles for a whitening boost.
5. Microfiber Makeup Wipes
Single use makeup wipes are wildly convenient, but at a high cost to the environment. Microfiber makeup remover wipes are a cheap alternative that are softer and gentler on your skin and are of course, washable and reusable. Simply dampen the cloth with warm water and watch it wipe away even waterproof mascara! I’ve linked a 5 pack for $14.99. Check out stores like TJ Maxx, Burlington, or even 5 below to find them even cheaper. These are one of my favorite products on the list, I’ve have been a faithful user of these for years and can’t say enough good things about it. If you really feel you need to add product to remove your makeup, try just using coconut oil.
6. Toothpaste Alternatives
Toothpaste tubes are another single use plastic often forgotten about when considering ways to cut down on waste. It certainly wasn’t the first or second or tenth item on my list. Nevertheless, toothpaste packaging is traditionally very wasteful and never reusable. Consider switching to these cool toothpaste tablets instead!
TOOTHPASTE TABLETS - Bite toothpaste bits come in refillable glass packaging, and refills are packaged and shipped sustainably as well. You can find similar products on Zero Waste Store.
TOOTH POWDER - I’ve found tooth powder at TJ Maxx dozens of times, but for products specifically stored in reusable glass packaging check out Package Free and Zero Waste Store.
Another plastic bottle you can ditch is your mouthwash! I can’t wait to try these. My inner child will be so thrilled to watch them dissolve. Similarly to the toothpaste bits, these awesome dissolving mouthwash tablets come in reusable glass packaging. Most of these products mentioned can be autoshipped to you so you never have to go without!
8. Bar Soap, Shampoo, and Conditioner
I’m gonna be real with you, I don’t mind a good bar of hand soap, but I have not yet taken the leap and given up my bottled shampoo and conditioner. I hope to eventually get there, i love the spirit of it! I just really love my bottled hair care products. Sustainable hair care will have to be something I talk more about in future posts though. Anyway, here are some websites that offer a wide selection of bar products
// Lush Cosmetics // Package Free // By Humankind // Zero Waste // Earthhero
Try switching from traditional bar deodorant that’s packaged in plastic and consider paste or balm style deodorant packaged in recyclable glass like this one here. It’s vegan and some of the profits go to charity!
10. Liquid handsoap alternative
If you’re someone who doesn’t feel that bar soap is the kinda thing they can fully commit to, I honestly feel that pretty hard, as mentioned above. These dissolvable hand soap tablets come in packs of three and tablet refill wrappers are compostable! Get the starter kit, complete with glass soap dispenser here.
Oh yeah girl, even your period can be sustainable. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna try and make it cute. Some of your options include:
// Washable Cotton Pads // Menstrual Cups // Thinx Absorbant Underwear
12. Toilet Paper Alternatives
Another not so cute but very real way to consider making your life more sustainable is switching out your old school toilet paper. One option to consider is a bidet attachment to your toilet like this one. If you can’t kick your TP (I don’t blame you one bit honestly) you can try switching to a paper thats more sustainably made like this one. It’s made of recycled materials, is septic safe, and biodegradable.
That’s all for now friends. I hope you’ve enjoyed these recommendations! If you have a sustainable self care product that you’d like to share please drop it below or in my ask box. I’ll be posting more as they come to me! Happy earth day beauties xx
