Back in November I was doing my periodic computer file re-organization/cleanup, and I went down a rabbit hole reading an unfinished novel I hadn’t touched in almost 20 years. A one-page hospital bill, for a vaginal birth with no complications, and somehow my mother was allowed to stay in the hospital for FOUR NIGHTS, at $30 a pop for a semi-private room. I had the day off for the holiday, so I didn’t have work to distract myself from other events. I wanted to keep myself away from it to avoid unnecessary stewing about things I can’t do anything about right now.
