The 4pi Cult and the Murders ・❥・・❥・

Along the way, the "Four Pi" movement had tied itself to many murderers. Serial slayer Stanley Baker, jailed in Montana for eating the heart of one victim, confessed to other murders perpetrated on orders from the "Grand Chingon." Recruited from a college campus in Wyoming, Baker remained unrepentant in confinement and tried to form a satanic group of his own there (which failed). 

Ed Sanders reports that some of Manson's followers referred to him -- in Sanders' presence supposedly-- as the "Grand Chingon," and that Manson was jailed while the real "Chingon" remains at large ( I highly doubt any of this is true as I can’t find any source for this). 

David Berkowitz -- the "Son of Sam" killer -- has also professed membership in the Four Pi cult, revealing inside knowledge of a California homicide allegedly committed by the group. In 1979, Berkowitz smuggled a book on witchcraft out of his prison cell, with passages on Manson and the Four Pi movement underlined. He wrote on one page: "Arlis Perry. Hunted, stalked, and slain. Followed to California." As researched by the journalist  Maury Terry, the Berkowitz note points directly to an unsolved murder committed at Stanford University in mid-October 1974. 

On October 11 of that year,  Arlis Perry was found in the campus chapel at Stanford, nude from the waist down, a long candle protruding from her vagina. Her blouse had been ripped open, and another candle stood between her breasts. Beaten and choked unconscious by her assailant, she was finally killed with an ice pick, buried in her skull behind the left ear. In subsequent conversations and correspondence, Berkowitz alleged that Perry was killed by Four Pi members as "a favor" to cultists in her hometown Bismarck, North Dakota, whom she had apparently offended in some way. Her slayer was named by Berkowitz as "Manson II," a professional killer "involved with the original Manson and the cult there in L.A."

 Unfortunately every time I find people even willing to look at the occult aspect of those killings, I am told to not believe anything Berkowitz says, for reasons still unknown.

Does anyone have any blog recommendations that talk about darker things? Anything that revolves around death, diseases, gothic literature, vampires, cults, crime, etc.

But something really passionate not just for the aesthetic. I feel like those were much easier to find in the early 2000s. Most goth communities now are devoid of anything substantial it's just about buying stuff,

The Process and the 4pi cult, pt.4 (or 5?)

In the book “Programmed to Kill by David McGowen, a section is dedicated to them:

“Beginning in June 1968, authorities in San Jose, Santa Cruz, and Los Gatos began recording the discovery of canines, skinned and drained of blood without apparent motive. As the director of the Santa Cruz animal shelter told Sanders, ‘Whoever is doing this is a real expert with a knife. The skin is cut away without even marking the flesh. The really strange thing is that these dogs have been drained of blood.’ One hotbed of activity appears to be New York, where 85 German shepherds and Dobermans were found skinned in the year between October 1976 and October 1977. If we accept the words of isolated witnesses, the missing blood was drunk by cultists in their ceremonies.”

Journalist Ed Sanders began an investigation on this group apparently composed of 55 members. They were mostly middle-aged, but the rest were in their early twenties and were recruited on college campuses. He initially started research for the Charles Manson case for his book “The Family”, but ended up down a completely (but according to him, related) rabbit hole. The rituals of the 4pi members consisted of sacrificing Doberman and German Shepherd dogs as well as humans from time to time mostly found hitchhiking.

The Process Church and Satanism pt.3

Satanic ties:

Considering how often and casually the Processeans  would mention their love for Lucifer and Satan, rumours spread quite quickly about this cult being full of satan-worshipping hippies. Most first results on google will tell you that this is all nonsense and simply some satanic panic propaganda, but a deeper search leads to something much more interesting.

A quick look at the Process symbol gives a pretty good image of Mari Anne’s beliefs (Degrimston’s wife). While even most ex-members of the Process deny any ties with Nazism, this claim can not be taken seriously. First, Mari-Anne has been said by ex-members in the book “Love, Sex, Fear, Death: The Inside Story of The Process Church of the Final Judgment” to have been obsessed with Nazi Germany. She even believed herself to be a reincarnation of Joseph Goebbels and thought she had successfully astral projected to the exact moment Hitler killed himself in his bunker to witness it.

This obsession of hers would explain why Processeans were seen so often with German Shepherds (keep that detail in mind for later).

In the book ‘Apocalypse Culture”, a Processean gives his beliefs about the origin of the Process:

>     “You know, a lot of people say The Process is a Fascist organization. It’s actually half-true. It was founded by the German Democratic Party, a neo-Nazi group in Germany as a front to raise money over here in the States. But since that time it’s grown more or less independent of the German group. I know a number of American Nazis and fascists who won’t have anything to do with The Process. They say they don’t want to be a part of a group that’s run by Europeans. When I was over in Europe, Interpol approached me and offered to pay me to spy on The Process. But I turned them down. They approached me a second time when I was at The Process headquarters in Toronto, but I told them I couldn’t do anything like that.”" 

Now, you might be wondering where exactly the satanic accusation holds any weight and the answer can be found in the 4pi (or four pi) movement from the 60s. This movement was a speculative faction of the Process rumored to be tied to many murders (such as the Son of Sam killings), cannibalism, and ritualistic sacrifices. This cult was said to worship evil in its purest form and probably got its name from the Process Church’s symbol. If you look closely, you’ll see that their symbol is made up of four “P” letters stacked on top of each other.

Charles manson and that one satanic cult

The Charles Manson Ties:

The Process had known chapters in England, America, Canada and Germany. One of the church’s chapter houses in San Francisco (407 Cole Street,Haight-Ashbury) was only a few blocks from Manson’s known address there (636 Cole) in early 1967. When Manson had been arrested, they were allowed inside the prison for an interview which they  published in their Magazine called “The Process”, which you can access on the internet archive (The Death Issue, if you’re interested). In a 1994 interview, Manson talks about both Scientology and the Process. He shows knowledge of their scientology origins and claims that he wasn’t able to go see them himself, but did send some people to “create an awakening and create an awareness there”. He mentions the presence of motorcycles near the chapter houses, which shows he did at the very least have knowledge of their surroundings. The Process used motorcycle gangs for security, which gave them access to drugs they would then sell to celebrities they were in touch with, such as David Bowie. In that same interview, when asked if he was a satanist, he claims that this accusation makes no sense and that “God is the devil”.

 In his book “Helter Skelter", Vincent Bugliosi -- who prosecuted the Manson Family-  argues after hours of interrogation that Manson may have borrowed some of his ideas from the Process Church. Bugliosi asked Manson if he knew DeGrimston to which Manson replied that they were “one and the same.” He says that he then went on to talk to two prominent Process members following this comment. They denied Robert ever having met Manson and assured Bugliosi they were very much against violence. The following day, those two Process members went on to visit Manson in prison (the motive at least partially being related to their magazine interview with him). The very next day, Bugliosi then describes Manson as being very evasive with any Process-related questions following that visit.

The Process Church of the Final Judgment and Charles Manson

Alright, so since I cant seem to find too many good quality recent posts here about the occult (do prove me wrong by sending me some accounts of course), I've decided to post it myself.

Part 1

The Processeans and their cult 

Beginnings:

The Process Church of final judgement was created by Mary Ann Maclean and Robert de Grimston, two ex-scientologists in the 60s. According to them, they were kicked out of the Church of Scientology after the husband and wife started to incorporate more spiritual aspects to the dianetics teachings. Scientology on the other hand, claims that their increasingly pro-drug stances went against the church’s beliefs. They formed a small group in the UK first called Compulsions Analysis, which stayed very similar to the auditing process of scientology (with a mix of Alfred Adler). They used the e-meter (which they renamed the p-meter, much to the dislike of Scientology that felt as though their technology had been stolen), they held communication classes, etc., It wasn’t until they formed the Process Church of Final judgment that they could officially separate themselves from the now acknowledged cult- although they still held on to many scientology behaviours.

Theology:

The Processeans believed in 4 archetypes who later on evolved to be seen as gods: Jehovah, Satan, Lucifer, and Jesus. They believed, at least publicly, that one was to love everything and everybody, that sex and drugs were meant to be free indulgences practiced whenever someone felt like it, and that the end of the world was near. More specifically, they believed that the world would soon end, once Satan and Jesus would unite after the latter had forgiven the former. This day was to come at any moment, so they said. Their texts are also available online through a pdf called “Exit: Communication to all Brethrens” by Robert de Grimston (highly recommended). The letters DeGrimston sent to his followers have clearly been well-thought out and show that Robert wasn’t just pretending to believe in what he was saying, unlike most cult leaders. But while Robert was the face of the Process, do keep in mind that his wife is the one who is said to be truly in control.
