And for the record, I understand that the implication is that Amir is being possessed/influenced by Wally. I'm pointing out that it'd also just as plausible that it was Amir saying those things. And I don't think it's fun to play with that kind of ambiguity when it could potentially sour players toward a character (especially one that some people already find annoying, apparently).

Okay I lied here's some semi-coherent thoughts on the F&F finale, spoilers ahead but probably goes without saying

(prefacing this with– I'm not one of the diehard Amir fans (love y'all) but I will defend him with my life so correct me if I get anything wrong)

A lot of folks are (rightfully) disappointed with how the F&F story played out, here's my two cents on it all:

He Would Not Fucking Say That:

Either whoever was writing this completely misunderstood Amir's character, or Wally has much more influence here than we think. Maybe it's wishful thinking as someone who loves the KIM system, but those first messages in the finale immediately made me go, 'that's not Amir.' Sure, he can be catty with wit and snark to match, but he is not thoughtless, he would never willingly take the Drifter's trauma and use it like that. I truly want to believe that this was the direction the writers were going for, but with how the writing was handled, I unfortunately doubt that. Theory crafting aside, deflection and distraction I can understand, but throwing the Drifter's history in their face like that is so out of character it might as well have been written under Wattpad's new t&s.

The elephant in the room goes unaddressed:

Looking at the writing more specifically, it was the epitome of a massive build up that ultimately fell lower than flat. We get to watch Amir's distress grow and grow with the campaign as a distraction front only for it to be overshadowed by the new Eximus units. We understand what the issue is but we're never given the opportunity to properly address it, and the best we're given is a 'let's go shoot stuff' ending. The time given to addressing what Amir is going through is completely outweighed by the presence of Eximus units, which could have easily been indirectly discussed as a part of Amir's narrative, not the conclusion of it.

They had the potential to do some really interesting insight into Amir's character and the mental toll of the loops in real time, but they completely dropped the ball for me on that final KIM. Personally, if I wasn't looking at it so critically I'd say it's enjoyable, it was great in some areas! Getting to see the Hex interact (mostly) altogether again certainly scratched an itch for me. But I can't deny the emotional plotline was a complete letdown.

First of all, assuming that I'm projecting because "durviri already dealt with Drifter's trauma via gameplay" is WILD to say. Secondly Amir has ADHD, now I don't know about you guys but I don't go around telling somoene I hate them and then call them the nickname their dead father used to call them before it got turned into a mocking title. And finally, this wasn't a "joke that didn't land" it was said with such vitrol and hate.

And this guy keeps doubling down saying that Amir was just totally joking and he's neurodivergent so he doesn't know any better. Yeah no, he does at this point in time, know better.

Can you imagine if during the campaign Amir started roleplaying as Christopher, Arthur's brother-in-law and Eleanor's fiance who died, and used him as a mouthpiece for his own venting? He would've rightfully been chewed the fuck out lmao.

But it's the Drifter so it's fine, I guess. Sorry about using your trauma as a set piece and ignoring your boundaries repeatedly when it was very clearly triggering for you! Let's go kill some new eximus units together and we'll hit the showers after!

I am mad and disappointed.

When it comes to the Operator, the characters around them (for the most part) take their trauma into consideration.

But for some reason with the Drifter, they can't have that same courtsy extended to them. Like just because they are an adult doesn't mean they don't have issues and have a hard time dealing with them. Especially given the context of said trauma.

And as I pointed out earlier, if you the player fuck up during the KIM chats, you suffer the consequences. With some of the chats in particular you REALLY have to walk on eggshells. But it's Drifter so it's okay! Let's just be dismissive and side eye them and blame them for everything and laugh off their trauma as a joke.

But no, we barely get stood up for, and I mean bare bones barely. Like you meant to tell me that NO ONE would chew Amir out? Not even our romanced partner? You have to be rank 5 to even play FnF which means you're good friends with them all and possibly romanced one of them and yet NONE of them even stand up for you!?

And to that point, Amir would NEVER behave this way towards his best friend or lover! But yeah it's all just "tee hee whoopsie! let's go kill things!" and everything is just fine again! The warframe writers have been so good about handling these types of things and themes before so what the hell went so wrong here!?

I'm gonna have to write a story as to how my Drifter would deal with this (I don't have to per say but for the sake of my sanity I need to). But it's insane that I even have to. Like sure it's not an RPG and I understand they can't account for how every player might react but holy shit the only option we got was NOT it.

It’s not clear enough to me if that was Wally or Amir during the hey kiddo bits. I feel like the apology isn’t equal to the drifter’s lore trauma against them, and the side eye blame of them ‘causing’ externalism from Amir. I feel like there’s a lot left unsaid. Even vice versa, with the troubles Amir is having existing in eternalism. A lot of heavy topics with a silly haha, let’s go kill eximus ending. (However much I like the oops all eximus mission.)

But this could also be a bias view. I realize this is a mini adventure featuring all of the 1999 protoframes. Not an individual KIM chat for an individual character. Therefore this mini adventure doesn’t count if the drifter is in a relationship, and technically doesn’t have to. But this kinda leaves an icky vibe for the individual Amir KIM chat.

You absolutely fucked Amir's character who would literally never do that to Drifter, especially a romanced Drifter and just... lalala anyway oopsies! Haha sorry guys, anyway- Are you kidding? Who wrote this? Why promote this as F&F in the first place? I have no words. I think I just need to sit down for a while. I have never seen someone kill a character's personality so fast, it's like whoever wrote this didn't actually know any of the previous stuff released for Amir, they just guessed and called it a day. No one is going to look at the amazing character Amir is past this shit anymore and even I am struggling to find crumbs of positivity because I hate picking at only negatives

But this? To spit in my face with a character I've studied to hell and back? To break down something that could have been taken well? To be taken in separate chats?

I am STILL committing to my word of diving into things without a bias but?? What the fuck??

This update could have genuinely been a 10/10 but whoever wrote this KIM chat specifically? Yeah. Pointing at you.

Not only that but Drifter doesn't get to do much other then tell him to knock it off like??? I know this isn't really an RPG game but seriously, he gets NO repurcussions? Which is doubly funny when you consider the fact that you the player have repurcussions for making the wrong choices.

And this was advertised as a DnD like campaign only for it to..barely be a DnD campaign. That was super disappointing. And I have a sneaking suspicion that reseting it isn't going to change that.

This was such a letdown DE.

So Amir is going through the very same road of apathy Drifter went through in Duviri during the endless loops, and it's like, do you ever wonder if Drifter fears they will become exactly like Dominus Thrax? Subjecting what was once their friend to an endless torturous existence.

Like it hurts to watch because we're seeing Amir try to find some relief from that with the F&F game but things just keep going wrong and for some reason we can't talk to him about it because he keeps deflecting. His crashout is honestly valid because yeah, their situation blows. But conversely, what's so frustrating is that he's also bitterly letting his baggage affect others.

Quincy is incredibly uncomfortable and in several instances asks Amir to cut it out. The others are confused whenever he lashes out at them. Amir snarkingly jokes about Drifter resetting their memories and doesn't take it seriously if they say they never have and never will (which is his prerogative to not take Drifter's word for it but it still hurts), and unintentionally or not, he lowkey insinuates that the "endlessly looping hellscape" is Drifter's doing. Which, yes, it technically is and everyone knows it, and yes, I know he isn't blaming them because their alternative was literally dying and he's simply venting rn, but there is no world where what he said didn't make Drifter feel like absolute shit.

And on top of all this, I'm somehow certain Wally is involved with these negative feelings or at least relishes in it and is stoking the flame, so that's fun.
