Hello! I'm Tommy and since I want to actually post on here, I figured I'd update my introduction.
He/him
A writer and poet (but still very much learning)
College student!!!! I'm majoring in creative writing and marketing, but am also devoting myself to learning German. My goal is to one day make commercials, but writing books and poetry will always be my dream. I've been working on writing a long-form story lately, which I plan to post about as it gets completed. I love urban exploring and the history and future of malls. Nostalgia itself is so fascinating to me. I'm a sucker for something that makes me feel.
I have a lot of interests that come and go, but here are some of the larger ones. (subject to further updates!)
Stranger Things--> I'm an avid member of byler nation!! Mike is my favorite character, season 2 is my favorite season, and I honestly like most every character in the show (fuck Billy though, hate that guy), the ending was a huge letdown all around, I hate the brothers duff
Gravity Falls --> my childhood love that will never leave me, Dipper has always been my favorite, when I was younger I was obsessed with mabifica so it holds a special place it my heart
DuckTales 2017--> another childhood thing, this was the beginning of my Ben Schwartz fanboy career, could never choose a favorite between the triplets
Voltron--> was not too into this as a kid surprisingly but in college I’ve become such a fan it's insane, rewatching years later is like an acid trip, Lance is my favorite but I love all of the paladins
Smosh--> another thing that I started watching waaay after it's start, it was only 2024 that I really got into it, Trevor is easily my favorite he's such a guy, they're so fun and I'm obsessed
Camp Cretaceous/Chaos Theory--> I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! Every single character is so so so compelling and the story is beautifully written, Chaos Theory is a masterpiece and the best thing to happen to this franchise in so long, I could not possibly choose a favorite between the kids because they're all so well written, I'm open to shipping with this one but you know that yasammy is my favorite, it might be my favorite ship of all time
IT--> This one is thanks to a friend of mine but I absolutely adore the losers club, Ben is my favorite because he reminds me a lot of myself, naturally I'm a reddie fan but I love benverly so much too and it deserves more love
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory--> Every single iteration of this (excluding the book which is the weakest version despite being the source material) is my favorite thing ever, Mike is my favorite of the kids but (as usual) I love all of them, the parents are the true rotten ones and I stand by that
Omori--> I love Omori so much, it's genuinely one of the best games I have ever seen (though I'm no expert so don't take my word for it), the portrayal of grief is so well done and every single character feels truly human, either Aubrey or Kel are my favorite
Danganronpa--> I left this one towards the end because it's a leech that I'll never get rid of, I'm so basic when it comes to this franchise, V3 and Kokichi are my favorites, BUT TRUST ME I DON'T THINK HE'S AN INNOCENT LITTLE BABY HE'S SUCH A WEIRDO TO ME, I'm a firm urbex Kokichi fan like let him break into shit and poke around, I'm a big Oumota enjoyer but with dr you could probably convince me of any ship, as for the other games Makoto is my favorite from the first, Peko from the second, and I do enjoy the warriors of hope a lot (they make me sad, give them better parents in another life please)
Mo Dao Zu Shi--> this is something my partner brought me into so I'm a big newbie but I adore these characters, the juniors are my favorite hands down
Starkid--> I LOVE STARTKID, also a newbie at this one but it's super cool to me, hatchetfield universe is my bread and butter, Peter is my favorite but that's just my bias towards the Spankoffski brothers (they make me cry)
Mob Psycho 100–> I just watched this recently and it blew me away, it’s hard for me to pick a favorite but when it comes down to it I really like Ritsu and Shou
Sk8 the Infinity-> yet again I’m late to this one, BUT I LOVE THEM, Miya is easily my favorite but I resonate with Reki a lot too, the dynamics are my everything, fuck Adam though he can die for all I care
Bungou Stray Dogs -> another thing my partner showed to me, I absolutely love the core themes of this story, Chuuya is my favorite but I also really like Jouno and Tachihara, SSKK and Suegiku are my everything lately, I also enjoy myself some SKK and tachigin.
The Outsiders -> this is my new thing, I read the book for the first time recently and I'm obsessed, Ponyboy is my favorite hands down, I understand him BAD, I adore the Curtis brothers and the dynamic of all of the greasers, I believe in gay Steve Randle, Stevepop is real and I can prove it
Project: Eden's Garden -> I mourn the loss of what could have been, Kaimon forever, Kaimon for life, Damon is literally my twin brother we were in the same womb, RIP Ulysses my goat
Go for it Nakamura! -> I am absolutely obsessed with this show. The art style is perfect, all of the characters are funny, the romance is so sweet, and Nakamura is me!!!!! Twintwintwin!!
That's the meat of it! If anyone actually reads this, you're insane. I'm a yapper to my core so this is quite a tangent. I am always open to receiving writing tips.
lets be so fr, that "take off your belt" line was only removed bc the second they tested it out and heard it through Finn's mouth with Mike's inflection to Will, everyone collectively realized that the scene would more vulgar than the stancy sex scene of season 1
Will Byers is a NERD. He likes science. He canonically knows how to speak morse code. He and the party participated and won science fairs and were part of the AV club. Will Byers is SO smart. He is SO wise. Will Byers has big opinions about his interests and can talk about them forever. Will Byers has favourite artists he looks up to and admires. Will Byers is a cinephile and an audiophile. Will Byers is a collector. Will Byers is SO strong and SO kind. Yeah.
A collection of my post ST season 5 thoughts (in no particular order)
El and Hopper
I feel like we already got a plotline about Hopper's overprotective nature in season 3. I also feel like we resolved that plot line really neatly with Hopper's letter. I understand and enjoy the addition of El feeling protective over Hopper and scared for his safety after his "death", but it feels like a waste of potential to recycle their season 3 plot too. I wish we had gotten a reflection of how the way Hopper treated El back in season 2 would have affected her. I do love Hopper, and I adore his relationship with El, but he's not perfect by any means. The way he handled El in season 2, with the yelling and threatening to send her back to the lab, would have hurt their relationship. I wish we had gotten to see that play out as a final conclusion of their relationship. It would have been interesting and satisfying. Plus, I hated the whole plotline of El wanting to sacrifice herself and the fact that she ended up doing so. Without that, there would have been much less "Hopper doesn't want El to be in danger" plot.
The Mike Wheeler of it all
I don't even know where to begin with this. Mike could have been in an amazing character, and I do love him so much, but they completely butchered any of his emotional depth, even with El. They put in a plotline mirroring Jonathan's in season 1 when Holly is taken, but they don't follow through on it with Mike's actions and characterization. On top of that, he doesn't get a moment to worry about his parents. I was waiting the whole season for the moment when he broke under all the pressure and strife, but it didn't come. Where's the Mike who lashes out at people when he's scared? Where's the Mike that takes control of the situation to help himself feel more in control of the crazy things that happen? We get the line of him wanting to protect the kids from witnessing horrors, but they don't follow through on that at all. And we can't forget about how they butchered not just Byler but Mike and Will's friendship as a whole. Mike isn't an idiot, we know that he now knows about Will's feelings. But all we get is that scene on the tower? Something Noah had to ask for no less. Even if they never intended for Byler in any way, Mike still deeply cares for Will. His character has never been singularly about El, but that's where they leave him. It's a disservice to his character. He doesn't get his own ending.
Byler
I'm sick and tired of the idea that queer people need media that shows them it's okay to be rejected. Queer people, especially teens, get rejected all the time. A lot live out their whole adolescence lying to people, harboring a secret and all-consuming crush on someone they know/assume is straight. A rejection story isn't necessary, especially when we already got the SAME THING with Steve in season 2. I will forever mourn what Byler could have been, and I feel for all of the creatives involved in Stranger Things who put so much work into the details just for the Duffers to be cowards.
Jonathan and Nancy
I really wish these two hadn't broken up. I love the idea that Nancy doesn't want to marry and settle down, because that makes total sense for her character, but that's not the only way romance can pan out. It would have been amazing if that whole talk in the goop room was about how they love each other and want to stay together, but Nancy will never want to do it in the normal way. The communication about what they desire in the relationship is what they needed, and I think that Jonathan would have no problem doing something unconventional. He loves the unconventional.
WSQK
The potential this detail had to be so cool. I was waiting for someone to get electrocuted, for a broadcast to be their undoing, or for anything truly tragic and interesting to happen. It's such a good concept for them to take over the radio station after the regular host flees town, especially given the party's experience with the AV club. But the plotline around it fell completely flat.
Holly
I love her. Her actress did amazing. But god did we not need the focus on her, and even when we got it they did it totally wrong. Holly, as a character, didn't feel real. She wasn't grounded in the same way the other characters are. Though, I will say, every character has lost its grounded feeling over time. Holly is a huge victim of this, though. She wasn't given anything that made her feel compelling or realistic. She's basically unflawed, which is a total disservice to any character.
Jonathan and Joyce
It would have been great if they addressed the strain in these two's relationship. Winona has talked about how she wanted to emphasize that Joyce isn't a perfect mom, and has had to lean on Jonathan a lot since the divorce. But we never get to see that truly play out and conclude. There's hints of it in season 5, but it's never addressed. Just another missed opportunity
I definitely have more thoughts, so I'll probably add on to this later, but these are the ones that are on my mind the most. I mourn what season 5 could have been, and I miss the beauty of the first 2. That being said, I'll never be able to shake my love for this show. It holds a special place in my heart despite it all.
Listen guys, I’m not a big fan of bunny will, because it’s cute but he’s not bunny coded. He’s no prey animal, especially not one as vulnerable as a bunny. But dog Mike is important to me. Not a wolf, a domesticated pet dog. He barks at the mailman, but he’s scared of thunder and fireworks. He bites, but he can’t hunt. At the end of the day, no matter how much he misbehaves, he always heels. He is collared by both conformity and loyalty.
the losers feel like my personal friend group. and every time i see any piece of media with them my heart truly hurts. i understand what they felt when the reconnected after 27 years bc that's what i feel like every time i get back into It. like oh how could i have forgotten that i love you.
