seongyeohoonmin:
Hey, you love me, right?
Hyo was never really someone to ask Hoon these kinds of questions- maybe because she never really had to. Once they’d finally stumbled through that long-overdue confession, Hoon made it his own personal mission to ensure she never had to ask. It wasn’t until later that Hyo started letting him in on bits and pieces of the reasons why she might question if she was loved or even loveable, and these talks only strengthened his resolve to prove that she was, indeed, the most important woman on earth. Because she was, and she should know that.
Even so, all along, there was this small, nagging thought in the back of Hoon’s head that this relationship had an expiration date. He was a science nerd who sucked at football and basically everything else guys his age did. She was exciting and interesting and always on the go. His life had been easy, hers had been anything but. It was probably totally cheesy to say that his mom warned him about girls like her, but his mom really had pulled him aside once to sit him down and lecture him that girls like her don’t stick around; he shouldn’t count on getting serious. But he was serious and she was still with him and he wasn’t going to worry about what might or might not happen until they got there. He loved her now and he’d keep loving her as long as she liked and it didn’t have to be any more complicated than that.
Grad school was growing closer, however, and as the date of Hoon’s departure drew nearer, he came to the conclusion that he very much did not want to go alone. Once he reached this realization, he called Minah (if he thought she was loud while cheering it was nothing compared to the sound she made when she found out why he was calling) and that same day she took him to help look for an engagement ring.
But this was definitely not a part of the proposal operation.
"Can I- um- can we talk about this later?" he blurts out, immediately regretting his choice of words. "I mean, I want to talk about it but-" he sighed and looks around the room for something to save him from this awkwardness, his eyes landing on the neatly folded pile of clothes he’d set aside for their date tonight.
"It’s really not fair that you beat me to this, too," he says as he walks over to the pile. "I had this whole thing planned out- we were gonna get dinner and then we were gonna go for a walk and just happen to end up at the park where we went stargazing the night we met and…” he reaches into the pocket of his jeans and pulls out the small ring box, holding it up lamely.
"Surprise…"
He shrugs, a bit deflated since he really did think that he’d finally manage to sneak something past her, but he should have known there was just no sneaking anything past Ryu Hyoyoung.
"I had a whole speech planned, but… yours was better so… I don’t really want to say it now," he says with a small laugh. "But uh… okay. The short version is that I love you, and I will always love you- it’s really that simple. And, um…" even under the unexpected circumstances, he feels like he should do this right, so he gets down on one knee and opens the box toward her. "Of course I want to marry you. Nothing in the world would make me happier… But now do I ask you the same question or do you just want the ring? Minah made like twelve contingency plans for me but we didn’t go over this situation…"
"She watched him kneel in front of her and she didn't know what to do. Hyoyoung couldn't say anything, but nodded aggressively, "Give me the ring, cause hell yeah I wanna marry you." The girl laughed plucking the ring from the box, eyeing it for a moment and started to tear up. "I really should've let you had this moment. But don't worry, you've got forever to figure away to surprise me." Wiping at her eyes, before basically tackling Hoon and pressing kisses all over his face. Sitting up, still on top of him letting the diamond shine in the light before, smiling almost smug. "Never owned a ring like this before~ I can't wait to go show it off." Thinking of that-- wedding-- there was going to be a wedding hell the girl hadn't even had a real birthday party now a wedding?
Looking down at Hoon, realizing Minah probably has half the wedding already mapped out. "..I really love you, Hoon. You always know how to keep a girl happy. Don't worry, I'll be an awesome wife. Promise!" Getting up and already helping her fiance up from the floor, "You'll be the best husband ever. Wait what about kids? Should we try making them now? We have to wait right?" Hyoyoung teased before running a hand through her short locks.
"There's a lot to talk about! This is the one time I'm willing to wear a dress, a really pretty one.. then I'll be standing next you, you'll be wearing a suit. I can't even think about it, I might like squeal or something." Hyoyoung in her life never talked so much, nonetheless her usually tough way of speaking and mannerisms most people forgot- that well. Ryu Hyoyoung was indeed a girl, Sehun liked to tease that she had thunder thighs and that when she dressed up it looked more like she was going to church. But the best part was ~ Hoon liked all of her so it didn't matter ~ She did feel guilty for ruining his moment to surprise her, Hoon was a man after all with pride. Hyoyoung promised to let him have his moments at time, but- in times like these she was more impatient than anything.
