Hi there! I'm Rainielle, and this is Sepia By Heart! I created this whole blog, serving as a vintage treasure trove for history in the making. I named this blog "Sepia By Heart" after the reddish-brown color that's used to make photographs look old.

In this blog, you'll find treasures and stories of past decades, from the Victorian and Edwardian eras -- especially before, during or after the First World War -- to the Roaring 20's and Great Depression, the 1940s before and after the Second World War, and all the way to the Cold War and after it, including Vietnam War and the present day.

"On Learning About Renée Lemaire"

Back in November 2025, AMC aired the entire Band of Brothers series on their channel during Veterans Day weekend and all the way up to Veterans' Day's actual day. I managed to record the series so I wouldn't forget about it. However, it seems that the concentration camp scenes in the series didn't appear when the series was airing. That's a story for another day.

As I got to the Siege of Bastogne episode, I soon found interest in Renée Lemaire, a Belgian nurse that Easy Company medic Eugene Roe meets. It was her first onscreen moment that made me take up interest in wanting to learn about her more as a character.

From what I had researched, Renée Lemaire was indeed a real person, and she was also Belgian as I mentioned earlier. During the Siege of Bastogne, she worked as a nurse, volunteering at a supermarket that was used as a military aid station in the process.

On Christmas Eve in 1944, she was evacuating seven wounded soldiers during one air raid at a basement in the Sarma Store on rue de Neufchateau. Unfortunately, she was killed while trying to evacuate the last wounded soldier. Her remains were discovered by a battalion surgeon and got brought back to her parents in a white parachute, which she once said she wanted to recover in hopes of using it to make a wedding dress for herself one day.

Of course, that event happens off-screen, and we only see the aftermath of it, where Roe finds her blue headscarf. Although Roe didn't actually meet Renée during the events of the Bastogne siege, they are indeed depicted in the series as doing so because one of the directors found Renée's story to be interesting.

In conclusion, I've been very fortunate to have watched the entire Band of Brothers series during Veterans' Day weekend in 2025, even if I didn't get to the final episodes.

I've been thinking of this while scrolling through Pinterest and coming across Dracula-related stuff (by Dracula, I mean Bram Stoker's original novel) that involves Jonathan and Mina Harker respectively...

...what would happen if Mina found out about what Dracula did to Jonathan and Lucy and slapped Drac?
