The stench of flowers seems to have followed me home.
Now if only I could find out where the beautiful women went.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
One drink never did any harm. Well, I must say it is good to know you take your duty very seriously.
Your safety has and will continue to be my prime charge, my King. There is plenty of time for wine when we are back in the North.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
I entirely agree. Tell me - I saw you riding in with King Rickon’s retinue, but I know not your name. You are not of House Stark, are you?
No, of House Umber. It's Henry. Though your reputation precedes you, Ser Loras.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
Very well, I trust you. Do not make me regret it.
How about some wine? I can not forbid you to have at least a bit enjoyment.
I wouldn't think of it.Â
On duty, my Lord. My enjoyment comes in other forms, like the three ladies standing just my six.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
I would hope not.
You know me - calm and collected until the necessary moment.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
See that you do. Â It would be unwise to cause issues with our neighbors now. Â There have been enough issues between the kingdoms as of late.
I would no such thing without the King's leave, of course.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
AH, Henry, exactly my thoughts. I do not like this particular crowd one bit. Keep your eyes open..
Eyes and ears at all times, my lord. Though luckily there seems to be nothing foul afoot.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
It is important that we make peace between the kingdoms. Â Alliances are vital, Ser Henry. Â You know that as well as I do. Â Were they not important I scarcely believe Rickon would have been willing to make the journey from Winterfell at all.
Aye, peace. As you say, your Grace. I shall keep that in mind.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
That is understandable. Â It is hard to enjoy yourself when you know few people who are there with you.
True as that may be, my meaning with a little less tactful. There are those here whom I find as lesser company, and would sooner see dining with pigs then at the table with our King.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
Perhaps there are those who enjoy social events such as this over the solitude that is so typical. Â I am enjoying myself, but I do wish that I could simply stroll through the Godswood back in Winterfell.
Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy social callings. Just with.. proper company.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
I suppose that is dependent on what you find relaxing.
Well put, your Grace. Though I can't see how anyone would find comfort in an event such as this.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
That is a good thing for a knight, you know. It is of my opinion that knights should not often drink - I myself do not, at any rate - and it is refreshing to find someone who shares my views.
Yes, well, as you know, a knight's work is never done. Battle is just one of the skills we employ.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
Perhaps more wine would relax you, Ser? I could send for more, if you would like.
I appreciate the offer, but as it were, I'd prefer to stay vigilant as possible.Â
As much as I enjoy the view...
The crowds aren't exactly conducive to a relaxing environment.Â
Ser Henry Umber • Knight in the North • Unmarried • Original Home Location: Winterfell • TAKEN • FC Chosen: Jamie BamberÂ
History: Born the only son of a lesser cousin to Lord Greatjon Umber, Henry still remembers the day his father marched to war with the Young Wolf. He remembers the triumphant send off, the hope in the air, and his father’s armor gleaming in the sun like hope incarnate. He waited, with his mother and the young children of the Umbers, watching the wall and riding the tides of war from afar.
Henry’s father was the guiding force of his life, he sought to make him proud. From a young age he listened the stories of the old times, of the winters that scarred the world around and the Starks, larger than life, building a living out of the harsh North; and Henry wanted nothing more than to be a legend in his own right. He desired to become a fabled knight, and to bring his family, to bring the name of Umber, glory in the only way he could. Watching his father ride to war left little Henry Umber playing with wooden practice swords in the courtyard of his home, dreaming of the day he, too, would ride for war. He cut down the Lannisters, destroyed the lions in their golden armor, and brought only victories home from distant lands.
When the little Lord’s of Winterfell, only six years younger than he, were slaughtered by the turncoat Greyjoy, Henry only practiced more, worked harder and longer, and added the Greyjoys to his imaginary foes. The news of his father’s death, of the end of the North’s war with the death of their beloved King in the North, only served to solidify Henry’s dreams of grandeur. Where many lost faith and hope, their dreams of victory and freedom from the yoke of the Iron Throne grown hard and bitter in their grief and betrayal, Henry’s only grew stronger, fueled by his burning hatred for the Freys. As he grew, as his body matured and his strength overcame all who faced him in the courtyard and practice lists, his dreams of knighthood became more and more tangible. As the Seven Kingdoms shattered and split, as the Dragon Queen ravaged the land, died in the fight against the threat of the wall, Henry watched and his thirst for glory and battle only grew.
Rickon Stark ascended the throne, and Henry Umber, now grown and practiced in battle and blood, rode to Winterfell to pledge himself to his new King. He bowed before the throne at Winterfell, bowed before the new Wolf King, and felt the kiss of winter as King Rickon brought his blade down on his shoulders. Knighted, with his dream in his hands at last, Henry rose from the cold floors of the rebuilt capital of the North, and swore to never leave the side of his King. Ser Henry Umber rides where his King tells him, fights whomever his King states, and dispenses justice as best he can. A rover at heart, he rides the North, upholding the values of knighthood as best he can, but he is never far from his King.Â
It is in this time of peace, however, that his devotion to the glory of war is tested. The Seven Kingdoms – split and fractured into kingdoms of their own right, are tasting the nectar of peace, and Henry begins to wonder if war and blood are the only ways to bring glory to his name and his king. Promised a new life, a new world, after the ravages of the war of the Iron Throne, Henry, untested by war and true battle as of yet, wonders if war is the dream the little Umber boy of his past always thought it was.Â
Personality: Henry is a man of principles. He lives his life by the code of knighthood, attempting to be a man that people can admire, can trust. Without wars and battles to bring glory to his name, he firmly believes that by living by the code of knighthood he can be a man that will be remembered – if the Kingslayer can be notorious, Henry will be the opposite. He will be everything the faithless men who served the sham Kingsguard were not. He will serve his King with honor, serve his home with faith, and reap justice where he rides and walks. Henry holds his hatred and bitterness for Lannisters, Greyjoys and Freys deep in his heart. They are scum – betrayers and usurpers, sowers of war and grief, and he refuses to believe that any among them could hold goodness and light within themselves. Because of this hatred, Henry is the definition of loyalty. He grew up in a North that felt the impact of betrayal keenly, and he holds that trait dear to his heart. Friends of his family, and friends of his King he will protect to his best, and his King he will protect and serve until his dying breath. Henry is, however, impulsive. He makes decisions on feelings, and makes them quickly. He acts on snap decisions, sometimes with little thought to their long term impact. In addition, Henry has little regard for any politic maneuvering in the Kingdoms that are not the North. His world is the North, and anything beyond that is of little consequence. He trusts his King to know best, and does not concern himself with anything beyond his orders, his home, and his beliefs.
