Today's ranting is gonna be about how less diversity there are in novels.

Have you ever read a book where there was enough of races or genders or sexuality? I haven't.

The books we adore the most have the least diversity in them - I am looking at you sjm and jk fans.

I ain't gonna say the books suck, because the plot was awesome but announcing a character was gay all this time just doesn't work.

And please don't come at me saying - "but what about drarry (draco + harry)?" NO. It's a thing you follow which sucks btw. Yeah it does sound interesting, the enemies to lovers trope. But HARRY with draco? That's like Thor being with Thanos.

And what irks me the most is that the only black character in tog dies to push ahead a white woman's agenda.

And don't even get me started on how they write the lgbtq+ characters. It's like their whole personality is being a lgbtq+.

Trans characters are never even there in books.

People need to feel accepted, and for that to happen a change must be there.

So many.... and I mean it, so many books didn't get the hype they deserved just cause they have a BIPOC or LGBTQ+ protagonist. If this books don't sell, then authors might just stop writing them.

I am sure most of the readers who say they read diverse books have only read The Gilded Ones. (no offence though, that book is sooooo good!)

I feel like taking a vow to only read books if they the representation in them.

The one thing which should never be included in YA is descriptive s3x, I am sorry but it belongs in adult. Having a s3x scene is good when it's like in Fault in our stars.

It ended in 2 paragraphs.

And did not tell me what a blowjob is.

Never have s3x scenes which tell you how's it done, or how it feels like. YA audience are fvckin kids of 12 - 18 years. 12 years don't need to know what a blowjob is. There are scenes in acotar/tog series where they are literally biting each other (sorry sjm fans)!

Just for reference, acotar was marketed as YA... and retailers put it on YA shelfs. And I am sure of this because I read acotar when I was 12.

And having 500 years guys be with 19 years. I never knew when pedo got in the chat.

Let's stop promoting shit that doesn't belong in YA.

Write whatever shit you want to write in adult, but limit it in YA. I know YA genre is what sells but stay in your limits.

This was a kind (not) reminder that s3x isn't for 12 years.

I remember another blogger (i don't remember which) write the following lines but with different words:

Imagine you are in a bookstore signing copies and a 12 year holds your novel which includes s3x and literally people who bite each other.

I know I will regret my whole ass life.

Second Tip:

"Set milestones"

Research what's the common word count of your genre. Fantasy is 70k+ and Romance is 50k+. If it's your first time writing, it may seem daunting but it motivates you.

The best way to reach your milestones is to have a specific word count you write every day. And always increase it from time to time.

For instance, I started to write 1 year ago, and used to write 700 words everyday. But after a year, now I write 1000 words per day. There are days when I also write 2000 words.

Everything just to reach my word count goal, which is 110k for YA FANTASY.

First Tip:

"Write what you would read!"

If you don't want to read the book you wrote, why would others? Forcing yourself to write a popular genre will just ruin your book.

I have seen numerous authors famous or not use the YA age group just cause its what sells. One such author is SJM. ACOTAR is visibly for adults because it contains mature themes such as - descriptive sex, BDSM, and few too bloody scenes.

Even though JKR has lost fans, but her books are centred for the right age group. The first 2 books are centred for children, the rest have dark themes and are centred for YA.

Also, if you don't like fluffy romance, then don't write it. High chances are you will ruin it. Same goes for if you don't like dark romance.
