really, i'm just an opinionated woman in my late 20s who really cares about women. i was a TRA for ten years, identified as trans for five, then came to my senses as i got older. leaving the trans community was a gradual process for me as i tried to make sense of facts vs. rhetoric.

this blog is mainly a place for me to vent my frustrations, leave my thoughts, and express my opinions. bushpropaganda dot tumblr dot com is my very own echo chamber.

contrary to the radfem stereotype, i do have trans friends and i deeply care about them. i don't hate every individual trans person, i hate the community as a whole, and the rhetoric this community pushes that perpetuates: homophobia, sex-based oppression against women, and the intersectional bigotry of misogynoir.

i've dealt with gender dysphoria since my late teens, and only made progress with lessening it after i accepted my female reality, unlearned my internalized homophobia, and actually faced my trauma—all things that happened after i left the trans community. during my time as transmasc, i actively rejected bettering myself due to the critical thought it would entail, because i was terrified of becoming a TERF.

looking back, i was a traumatized lesbian experiencing psychosis who desperately needed help. instead, i was enabled.

i believe that the broader trans community is filled with misogynistic men who use the trans label to act out their fetish. i feel deep empathy for the women and men (often homosexual) who have fallen victim to the lie that gender nonconformity means you must be trans. man and woman are not terms based on sexist stereotypes. feminine men and masculine women should be allowed to exist as they are.

i have zero empathy for and actively detest transbians and gay trans men. they embody predation and repurposed homophobia.

when i was younger and stupid and in the (glass) closet i was dating the son of a pharmacologist. this man had made millions developing medications. he was fond of me and privately told me i was too funny and smart to be dating boys.

he also said that it was incredibly unlikely that sexism will ever be resolved in the medical field. that the majority of medications i will ever take - even some of which are "for women" - will not be clinically tested on my body.

the problem, he said, was in getting any human clinical trial approved. to test on a body with a uterus - any body, even elderly patients or those who have been sterilized - was often nigh-impossible, because the concern was that the test patient may, at any point, become pregnant. once/if the patient became pregnant, the study would not be about "the effects of New Medication on the body." instead, the trial would fail - the results would be "the effects of New Medication on a developing fetus/pregnant patient."

it was massively easier, he said, to just test without accounting for a uterus. that's how he phrased it - accounting for a uterus.

at the time, i remember him talking about the ethical implications of testing on a developing fetus; how such testing could theoretically bankrupt a company if a lawsuit was filed. he talked about informed consent and about how long it took for any legislation to be passed about this - that in 1993; the year i was born, it finally became illegal to outright exclude women and minorities from clinical trials.

i remember him shrugging. "that's not to say it doesn't happen," he said. my ears were ringing.

i was thinking about how every time i have been rushed to the ER, the first thing they have asked me is if i am pregnant. when i broke my wrist at 16 years old - despite never having had sex - they made me wait three hours for the test to come back negative before they gave me pain meds. the possibility of a child haunts my health.

how many people have died on the table because they were waiting for the pregnancy test before treatment. how many people have died on the table because they were pregnant, and the only thing we care about is the fetus.

it is hard to explain to other people, but it feels like some kind of strange ghost. our entire lives, we are supposed to "save" our bodies for our future partners. but really we are just saving the body for the future child, aren't we? that hovering future-almost that cartwheels around in a miasma. you can't get your tubes tied, what if you change your mind? think of the child you must have, eventually.

who cares about you and your actual safety. think about what you could be carrying.

what truly baffles me is that trans/nb “inclusive” language is not actually inclusive at all. people all over the world would recognize my body as female despite me having had a hysterectomy and no longer having a uterus because sexual dimorphism is coherent enough that we all know damn well what “female” means to most people, even if you think it’s a transphobic definition.

you know what kind of language DOESN’T include me? “people who menstruate” or “people with a uterus.”

y'all claim that “terfs” are the ones who don’t account for infertile women, for women who’ve had hysterectomies, for premenstrual girls, for menopausal women, for intersex women. y'all say “terfs” reduce people to their genitals. but the reality is that isolating bodily functions and organs as defining characteristics of a cohesive group of people: 1) actually results in exclusion, 2) actually reduces people to their genitals, and 3) obscures misogyny by pretending issues affecting the female body “affect people of all genders.”

I’m not telling you to change your pronouns or the way you conceive your individual body. I’m telling you to look at the larger picture and realize that misogyny is a societal problem and that it has targeted the female body, and oppression will not come to an end if we cannot name it.

bringing this back because I’ve been thinking about how it’s particularly tone-deaf and cruel to discuss the needs of female bodies using this kind of language.

let’s go through some examples of females who may not menstruate/have a uterus/have ovaries/etc:

- a premenstrual girl. not included in “people with periods.” may not currently need, say, access to bathrooms that have sanitary pads. most absolutely needs comprehensive education on her body and how menstruation works for when the time comes.

- a woman with PCOS who’s stopped menstruating. not included in “people with periods.” still in absolute need of research on her female-specific condition because doctors still don’t know what exactly causes it or how to effectively treat it.

- a woman who had an oophorectomy because she had ovarian cancer. not included in “people with ovaries” or “people who produce more estrogen than testosterone.” would maybe still have her ovaries if her male doctor had believed her when she first started to feel pain and her cancer had been treated early on. still has the same hormonal needs as other females and needs to be on HRT.

- a woman who became infertile after having a clandestine abortion. not included in “people who can get pregnant.” would have possibly not become pregnant if she’d had access to education and contraceptives and if we didn’t live in a world where men raping women was commonplace. could have had a safe abortion if women were granted full autonomy over their bodies.

- a girl who was the victim of fgm. not included in “people with a clitoris.” would not have been the victim of fgm if men did not specifically seek to control and punish female bodies.

i've long-noticed a pattern of trans men being "lolcowed" by the entire internet for showing very clear signs of mental illness, but trans women are coddled after literally victimizing people.

for example: the way the internet talks about tyler catastrophe (trans man who displays very clear signs of mental illness) vs lexity (trans woman who claims to have mental illness but is an average abusive male who has sexually assaulted multiple women) really reflects how society has successfully rebranded misogyny.

you cannot even acknowledge the reality of male violence anymore without people parroting the same old bullshit: "abuse is not gendered! women can be abusive too! stop being transphobic by calling her a male!" thank you so much for giving men the most perfect shield to justify their abusive behavior as long as they say the magic word.

and sure, everyone plays along and says the right promouns, but it's extremely fucking obvious that the entire world has still retained the bigotry of sex-based oppression, and they go along with gender bullshit because it's another way to prioritize males and hate females. if trans men were still the oppressed ones by trans logic, gender beliefs never would have been taken seriously.

Hi, what do you think of blackpill feminists? For example, the types who call women who sleep with men, and don't go with the flow of avoiding dating men, "whores"? To my understanding, they believe that women don't deserve sympathy for their oppression because they participate in patriarchy. If women stopped being male centered, patriarchy would stop. That is what I got from blackpillers.

this is gonna get me some slurs in my inbox, but i agree with a few blackpill sentiments to a certain extent. and i would argue that a lot of feminists understand how women play a role in their own oppression, either through encouraging gender roles, engaging in beauty standards, being male-centered, etc.

but where actual feminists hold space for nuance in conversations surrounding misogyny—like the difficulty of unlearning female socialization, or the misogynistic conditioning we face from birth, or the deep-rooted systems that reinforce female oppression—blackpills misrepresent these issues as a flaw of female biology. thus, the fight for female liberation is a hopeless endeavor.

the majority of blackpill feminists seem to me like women who have been so traumatized by misogyny and men that they project those feelings onto other women who they assume are happy being oppressed, and target them with the same misogyny they themselves have suffered from.

"well since they enjoy misogyny so much, i'll just treat them how misogynists treat them!" it's completely ass-backwards, but blackpills are clearly struggling mentally to have such a pessimistic outlook on all women.

with that being said, you also have to consider the possibility that these blackpills are actually men cosplaying as women, using the "feminist" label to splinter female solidarity, sew division, and give their misogynistic propaganda more legitimacy. i'm not saying all blackpill feminists are males, just to be skeptical of everything you see, especially in radfem spaces.

either way, whether mentally ill women or misogynistic men, the best thing we all can do is ignore them altogether.

I think sex is an inherently fraught, vulnerable, loaded experience. And it makes sense you need adult cognition and confidence to navigate it without repercussion. Even so, adults are fucked up by (ostensibly consensual!) sexual experiences all the time. Sex can be totally “consensual,” and still traumatizing. Obviously it's not inherently traumatic and bad, it's a biological process, but saying that something that requires such physical closeness isn't inherently loaded and vulnerable is out of touch with reality.
