I am still mourning my time to properly Inktober by doing my art hw in ink, so here is a piece for the prompt “open composition.”

I really like the soft constrast the ink wash sky adds for the slightly dreamy effect since I was considering this place like a dream (thus the teeny little boat in the midground.) Luckily this is juuuust angled so you can’t see the bit of red marring the page back from She Who Wields The Setting Sun. Whoops!

aka aub was stressed and it inspired me to do a quickish doodle of something cute. especially since as it turns out, the Well Adjusted Wardens AU (also ft. @mossandrock‘s Denoreth Surana and @meridok‘s Kylare Mahariel) has at least two separate instances of potential platonic-comfort forehead kisses and I think that is wonderful.

My sweet summer child Flytter (they/them), a non-protag Dragon Age AU OC, as requested in a blanket by @aubergion (especially in light of their Tamaris Surana being consistently terrible to Flytter across multiple AUs)cough. I’m going to post some regular portraits + an info/conceptdump-type in a post alongside this, I think. Flytter is a sweetheart tbh.

Flytter concept/doodledump!! Latter three pencils-y bits are mine; the first three portraits, which were also the basis for Flytter’s appearance, were concepted/lined by @aubergion​ and colored by yours truly~ Be sure to click the robes to see the whole thing. No good way to fit them into the image post. The infodump on Flytter got a bit long, so it will be here, under a cut!

Flytter (they/them) is the “future historian” I slowly created, on accident, while answering a codex ask for Egeire. Set in an odd, originally completely inconsequential AU setting that is vaguely post-seventh Blight. Flytter lives in a tower built on the site of where Kinloch Hold once stood, almost at the edges of heavily blighted lands, and has undergone some... minor physical changes due to prolonged exposure to the taint.

Still, it’s the best place for Flytter’s chosen profession. As a fade historian, Flytter looks through the tangles of the Fade and dreams to coax out information from ages past-- in their case, on the Fifth Blight especially. The once-Circle-tower is thinly separated from the Fade after Broken Circle, and depending on the AU, one of the Fifth Blight heroes may have originated there. The latter is not the case in Flytter’s “canon” of course (the future of solo!Egeire Mahariel’s canon), but still.

Flytter is an excitable, inquisitive, tragic, and quick-witted elf-ghoul; within the Fade, they appear largely like their pre-ghoul self. Because the quick creation of Flytter’s setting demanded a certain simplicity, as a post-Seventh Blight ghoul, there is no remaining song for Flytter to hear, and so combined with advances in medicine/magic, Flytter retains their mind essentially entirely, and their physical changes are not debilitating. For the most part, Flytter spends as much time possibly asleep anyway, when they’re not busy transcribing what they’ve learned, organizing information, or corresponding with other scholars, anyway.

Flytter is a fairly well-trained and practiced mage, whose magic is largely focused on defense and Fade manipulation. Being strong-willed and adaptable, with a lot of practice, Flytter is generally well-equipped to handle the demons and spirits of the Fade. Their main approach for the former tends to go compartmentalize>prepare>annoy>exploit>delay>destroy/banish, with that last step, along with the possibility of forcible self-awakening, being a last resort; it’s easier if the demon leaves of its own volition, but some are persistent. Flytter gets along well with spirits, and when possible pulls them into reenacting scenes from history long-past, as the Fade has a long memory buried in pieces. It’s slow but fulfilling work.

Flytter is extremely invested in their work, and canonically has something of a fanchild-crush on the Hero of the Fifth Blight. (In the event of an AU with multiple Heroes, Flytter’s romanticized infatuation settles on one.) They have two main friends, both mentioned in the codex ask-- Ilaea, a remote fellow scholar, and Varrel, a local-ish sentient genlock with an interest in dragons-- as well as some number of acquaintances and colleagues in the tower/academic historian community.

And, lastly, Flytter is extremely precious and just needs to be loved thank you all and good night.

@imhangingwhataboutyou and I started writing a domestic AU of our AU of our OCs and I drew this (as a joke!) in response to talking about her character Iman going into his emo phase... Diana Greatly Approved and also insisted I post it so here it is. I really love his color choices I gotta say.

Whoo hoo! Our roster is full and the killing starts tomorrow!

The winning OC gets a cameo in Hard Way Home, the fanfic by @northstarfan and me. If Alim or Jael happens to win (and who are we kidding, that’s probably going to happen), then the runner-up will get the prize. 

Even if you don’t have an OC, feel free to join in on the fun! Pick a favourite and cheer for them and trash talk the others. Our ask boxes will be open for questions about the boys, the fanfic or any game commentary.
