Hi. I'm a woman who dreams like you, wakes like you, hopes like you, prays like you, weeps like you and loves passionately like you do. You are I and I am you and you are we. We are all connected in the universe and we are all meant to seek and pursue Godly relationships with one another. This page is my hand out to you. This is my story and others stories as well. I am at risk for Huntington's Disease. I hope that I may enlighten Huntington's Disease to whomever I may reach. This incurable disease has been left in the shadows of more publicized health concerns such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Ironically enough, Huntington's (HD) could be described as a severely drastic combination of both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Although, HD is a hereditary disease, which means it can be passed down from parent to child. "More than 15,000 Americans have HD. At least 150,000 others have a 50 percent risk of developing the disease and thousands more of their relatives live with the possibility that they, too, might develop HD." Also, "Until recently, scientists understood very little about HD and could only watch as the disease continued to pass from generation to generation. Families saw the disease destroy their loved ones' ability to feel, think, and move." The lifespan for an individual who has been diagnosed is between 10-30 years following the diagnosis. I’d come across this disease days ago, and thought it sounded very interesting. I thought I might as well do some research and write an article about this particular disease.
Huntington’s Disease is an inherited progressive brain disorder that causes uncontrolled movements, emotional problems, and loss of thinking ability.
It is caused defective gene that you inherit from your parents carried on chromosome 4. The gene is responsible for making a protein called huntingtin.
“The genetic defect means that certain proteins needed to make brain chemicals cannot be made in your brain as normal.” (patient.co.uk)
Meaning this could lead to the damage and death of neurons (brain cells) in particular parts of the brain (basal ganglia and the cortex.) The basal ganglia (nuclei) are in charge of voluntary movements, procedural learning, emotion, eye movements and routine behaviours, also know as “habits” The cortex is mainly in charge of higher brain functions just as information processing, action, language and thought.
It is usually diagnosed to adults in their 30-40’s. Early signs include depression, irritability, poor coordination, and trouble making decisions or learning new information. Many people that are affected by Huntington’s Disease have trouble walking, speaking and swallowing. People with this disorder also experience changes in personality.
Some patients lose more than 25% of their brain cells before they die.

One of my mom’s students has early-onset Huntington’s and isn’t expected to live past twenty. Her mom got the whole town to send this girl birthday cards. It was really special.
But, to make it even better, Johnny Depp, who happens to be shooting a movie in my town, got wind of the birthday card project and that he is this girl’s favorite actor. So he sent her a birthday card.
So many feels and much appreciation.
As I finally brought myself to take a shower today, in doing so I was contemplating Gods plan for me. And why he has had me spend 90% of the last two weeks in the hospital including every day off that I’ve had. The weight of these thoughts were incredibly heavy and consuming then..
