Well... So much for freedom. It was incredible, really. How could they bring her back for another round of this "experiment"? She could have sworn that the entire thing crashed and burned miserably. That didn't seem to be the case. She was back in the complex maze of a city, completely unaware of what changes they made. One thing was for sure.

She'd definitely leave the experiment out of her own accord this time around. 

But... How would Lightning go about it? And were the same citizens from before here? No...

That was too typical. Of course they wouldn't bring in the same people. The scientist on the bright screen in front of the soldier had mentioned something about wiped memories. So... even if she the allies she had before were here, they wouldn't remember her. Her response? A scoff, as she walked out of the white room. She didn't need to hear anything else. She knew the ropes, unfortunately.

Lightning didn't have time to waste. First it's locating an apartment, then her investigation would begin. Add a side quest to find her friends from Cocoon as well. They had a large chance of being here as well, right? Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a directory.

"Too far."

With that, the soldier laid a hand on the shoulder of a seemingly harmless pedestrian, who was just passing by.

"What sector are we in right now? It's crucial that I find out."

Elec Man hadn’t traversed outside of the 3rd Circle, the Business District in the first week he’d been in New Canaan, thus it seemed wise to him to travel further, and get a better feel for what the city had to offer. Eventually, he ended up in the 6th Circle, which oddly, felt the most like home to him. It was clearly the Industrial section of the city, and reminded him of the work he did back at home. In fact, he’d already had to energize a couple of machines back to work.

It seemed as though the city was not as good with its upkeep as it so boasted.

The 6th Circle was fairly empty, a person walking around here and there, but nothing more than that. They didn’t talk to him, and he didn’t bother. Elec Man noted that perhaps, this would be a place he and his fellow robots could get together, perhaps here was where they could start to figure out a way to get back home. Perhaps figure out how to take control of these machines and turn the city against itself.

He didn’t know – he had no idea what to do no matter how much he thought about it, and it was incredibly frustrating. Elec continued to walk around, his generators charging up electricity with every step he took, just in case. He wasn’t really paying attention where he was going, but it seemed as though he’d made some noise and caught someone’s attention, because suddenly, there was a weapon pointed at him!

What an incredibly bossy human. Elec Man raised his arms in defense, staying wary of the woman.

“Calm yourself, human.”

“I am simply taking a look around. Exploring if you will. I will not harm you if you don’t harm my systems.”

Well, this was new. 

The robot in front of the soldier had technology completely unknown to her. Not that she was impressed or thrown off or anything. The machine in front of her was simply...outdated. The only part of him that seemed even remotely was his AI, nothing more. Advanced types of machines and androids found cluttering Cocoon had surrounded the pinkette for a rather large portion of her life. Fugitives from the Sanctum usually had their machinery hunt then down. From the simple grunt's rifle to an Orion, they had it all. Granted, Lightning demolished everything that got in her path to shredded circuitry.

“I am simply taking a look around. Exploring if you will. I will not harm you if you don’t harm my systems.”

So, it's not hostile at all. Good. One could never be too careful, but the soldier no longer saw a threat. She sheathed her weapon, but stood her ground, unsure of what the robot was capable of. She put her hands behind her head, merely to give the impression that she was no longer threatening the machine.

"Once you're dragged out of your own dimension by force, you can't be as laidback as many would like you to be, don't you agree? You'd want to look for a way out of this mess. And I'm assuming that's what you're up to right now."

She took a good look at the robot as she continued.

"Wouldn't happen to know anything valuable, would you? It's for the same cause."

Yurick was still confused about where he was and what it was supposed to mean. Everything was different from Lazulis, the buildings, the people, just everything. Also what kind of thing killed that man? It surely was dangerous.

Yurick was just walking around with a scattered mind, when suddenly the young woman points a weapon at him. His first reaction was to make some steps back, then he realized quickly that this might put them both into trouble.

“H-Hey! Be careful with that thing! We should be careful here, otherwise that … whatever it is might kill us!”

Then he got a grab of himself and observed her a bit more. She seemed to be a well built woman with some strong equipment with her. A warrior, maybe? He didn’t know the kind of weapon which she was holding, so he wondered where she would come from.

“Wouldn’t it be more kind to introduce yourself first? Who even are you?”

He found her really rude and didn’t see the necissity of answering her question. She didn’t seem to understand the rules of the world they’ve been both pulled in yet, but he also saw in her a good companion to find a way out of there. But at the same time she also seemed to be really aggressive. He didn’t know whether to trust her or not, but for now, he had no other choice. However, he would keep some distance, just to be on the safe side.

...? `What thing was he talking about? Was there a creature roaming about the premises? Just her luck. As if the man in her way wasn't enough to deal with. She was grateful that the man wasn't hostile. She wouldn't have to soil her hands. He said to be careful as if she was another insignificant fool that had wandered onto the premises. She was a skilled soldier of the Guardian Corps, not some bandit who didn't know their way through advanced weaponry. The soldier glared at him with skeptical eyes. She was reluctant to do so, but the pinkette proceeded to sheathe her blade. This man was of no danger to her...so it seemed.

“Wouldn’t it be more kind to introduce yourself first? Who even are you?”

It would have been kinder perhaps, but are the two meeting out of pure will, or because they had to? One look at their surroundings would provide the perfect answer.

"I don't think we're in the right situation for friendly formalities. What matters is getting out of here alive. You're as new as I am to New Canaan, right?"

The soldier lowered her guard, yet continued to scan the area. She was still curious as to what this guy was babbling on about.

"Not even a single shred of Cocoon."

The soldier could barely hear herself as she continued to roam the 6th Circle, in which industrial materials littered the area. Construction sites, power plants, sewers....everything that you would normally find in an industrially-based city. The AI had thought up to even the last trail of sewers. However...would any of them get her out of this city--New Canaan?

She wasn't meant to be here. She had be mercilessly torn out of her own world--her own  dimension--to be subject to a supercomputer. Now...where had she heard that before. While the Sanctum wasn't super or intelligent in the least, the oppression still stood. Would she have to do the same thing again? If it meant getting out of here alive. However, things were different this time around.

She had been the only one of the L'Cie band that had ended up in this mess. No heroic banter, no plots for revenge, no sarcastic remarks....nothing. The pinkette wasn't one to show emotion openly, not at all. This change, however, was overwhelming enough to get some kind of reaction out of her. She was more on edge than usual, drawing her gunblade at even the slightest movement--

Whatever poor soul had stumbled upon the scene now faced the threat of a suspicious Lightning.

"You have five seconds to state your name and reason for being here, in this Circle.

What was he to do? 

Once Hope had learned of the situation, he didn’t know what to do. Run? Hide..? But he was a supposed good guy, wasn’t he? He was supposed to… Eradicate any bad guys…  There wasn’t much he could do with what he was given… At least.. He didn’t think so.. Then again this was also about survival! So maybe hiding until this blew over might be a good idea.

That wouldn’t be too brave of him.

In one hand, he clutched the toy boomerang he’d been given. An frown was obvious on the boy’s expression as he debated on what was to come next. “I’d be pretty useless if I tried to help, huh..?” He muttered the words to himself, looking down at his hands. It was probably not the greatest idea but Hope had ducked away into an alley to conceal himself temporarily. Even as the rain poured, Hope pondered. Flipping the toy this way and that.. He sighed, dropping his hands to his sides once more. 

“What can I do..? Ah.. I’ll just get in the way.” 

Crack.

The boy froze, hearing the sound coming from behind him. Someone was there.. Unless.. Unless it was a stray cat or something?.. That wasn’t likely. Hope clutched the toy a bit tighter before finally gathering the courage to turn around, squinting to try get a good look at whoever had approached.

“Wh-who’s there?” 

Friend? Or foe..?

Eradicate the enemy. 

The scientists were just bored to the point of desiring the bloodshed of others. Even if Lightning had been in a deep slumber for the last couple of weeks, one thing still remained the same.

The hatred she felt towards the malicious higher beings. 

Lightning held a tight grip on her trusty pistol. She had been through a lot with the gun. She had obtained the firearm in a mad rescue, when Snow had been captured by a bunch of hooligans in an abandoned apartment. What occurred after that...the soldier would not speak of it. The incident had been her fault, and no matter how much her sister begged, she would be the only one to take the blame. That's just how it was. Rain streamed down the pinkette's face as she continued her patrol through her surroundings.

"They'll have to intervene themselves before they can see me fall."

Good against evil. A stereotypical battle. Maybe this would shed some light on suspicious individuals she had met throughout her time in the city. Maybe she'd be able to find Serah, Snow or Hope--ah, she had stepped on something. 

“Wh-who’s there?” 

The warrior recognized that voice anywhere. Hope was alright.

"What are you doing in the rain? Standing there blatantly's only gonna get you killed out here. But...I'm relieved that you're alright."

Would anyone attack the two l'Cies? Possibly. Lightning would be damned if she let another innocent fall to their death...as Lynne fell to hers. It wouldn't happen again.

The soldier herself would die before letting that happen.

Do you ship Lightning and Fang?

To an extent...? I mean, some of the fanart is HOT HOT HOT and I have shipped girl/girl pairings before (SiceSeven is a big one). Lightning's okay with Fang but in my opinion, I don't really see Lightning as the type to want a relationship. If anything, it'd come naturally to her, and at a slow pace since she's so focused most of the time. If she ever did end up in a relationship, she wouldn't go out of her way to show it. She'd just enjoy or reject whatever came her way. (tl;dr: i don't ship a lot in FFXIII)

Awakening [CA OPEN - RETURN OF THE LIGHT]

Exasperation escaped the soldier’s lungs as she rose out of her bed. Abruptly sitting up, she wondered…what had happened? How long had she been knocked out? Her outfit was still that of approximately 3 weeks ago. So she had fallen into some sort of slumber? She wasn’t exhausted, so why would that happen? For 3 weeks? Too many thoughts and questions raced through the mind of the pinkette. She stumbled out of her bed, only to drop. Such vertigo… Regardless, she had to find out why this had happened, and more importantly, what she had missed in the city.

Getting up and just moving in general felt strange to Lightning, and it bothered her. A soldier—a sergeant— of the Guardian Corps; a l’Cie who spent 2 weeks running from PSICOM, succumbing to soreness and discomfort. Ridiculous; she wasn’t a pampered animal. Maybe a cold shower would rinse all of this out of her system. Yeah. She’d do just that, then go out into the streets of the city once more. What if…her friends had been eradicated from the city? If that was true, she’d had let that happen. Soon enough, the pinkette found herself in the shower, clod beads of water hitting against her aching limbs and stoic face. Cold water probably wasn’t the way to go to rejuvenate a body, but it’d have to do. Just a quick shower. That was all the soldier needed to get back up on her feet. After changing, she wandered the streets of the city once more.

“City’s as ridiculous as always.”

So so SO sorry for inactivity!!

I've been.....failing a couple of classes here and there so I need to get back on track. But I'll be doing so while staying on this account so if anyone has an open they want me to reply to, go for it.

Familiarity was something Barnaby craved so much in the city. It’s true that he himself had been inactive, knocked out for goodness knows how long and unknowing to any situations that have happened in recent times. 

At first glance, Hive City seemed just as new as when he first arrived all those months ago. It’s hard to tell if he was even in the same city at times. Why did it feel so different to him? Was it because the once familiar citizens had dispersed since then? Or perhaps the seasons had changed the setting in an aspect. No, it has to be the former. 

He took cautious steps, his trust in the city dwindling quickly. Unfamiliarity settled quickly, the rabbit was on guard now.

“City’s as ridiculous as always.”

A stroke of familiarity! At last, he thought. As human nature would predict, Barnaby strayed towards the source of the woman’s voice. He prayed that his intuition was correct. He was. Inwardly, Barnaby smiled. Miss Lightning, if he remembered correctly, is still here. 

“So nothing has changed, hm? It feels different to me, somehow.”

The soldier had wondered how many of her comrades had escaped the clutches of the scientists as she slumbered. Perhaps Hope and Snow found their way out? What about...Serah? Had she had the chance to escape as well? The pinkette would definitely have to search for them as well. Hanna and Lynne...the last she could remember of them was...No, she didn't want to think about what had transcribed that day. It wasn't a day to be brought back into the light. Perhaps...she was all alone here. The city had its energy from the regular citizens, but many of the...unusual ones had just disappeared, as if they had no means of existence in the first place.

What had they done...?

"So nothing has changed, hm? It feels different to me somehow.

The soldier hadn't heard this voice in a while, but she knew it all too well. The man had been turned into a rabbit…and a young boy. Surely, he would have expected it all by now. Yet the city still felt… different to him. Odd; maybe he was in the same situation as she was? Possibly. It seemed as if the city was a bit more tranquil. Had the scientists done something similar to the Purge? They had the power to...

"I wouldn't say 'nothing'. It seems there are less people in the area."

If they had purged everyone, by Etro, they'd pay.
