I don’t like John’s newer line in the show “I don’t know what I’d do if Tam were my boy” I preferred that his character had definitive opinions on children like Tam, and what their father’s role needed to be. The change makes John’s transformation weaker. Overall, Act 2 changes do nothing for that character.

I think they’re really trying to soften Chris and Ellen… so John can’t be the voice of reason who says “This is what you NEED to do, guys,” and they ignore him. It’s bothersome. They made a mistake. A big mistake. We, as an audience, don’t have to think “aww but gosh they don’t know what to do!”

There’s a number of rewrites that make me think they’re trying to soften Chris and Ellen. Chris goes from acknowledging that he shattered “Kim, now Ellen too” to, in the revival, saying something (“Jesus Kim, what do I do?”) of no consequence. They also have Chris saying that they “were in love, but we were torn apart” in the Confrontation instead of “it was just 2 weeks, that was years ago!” which is another sympathetic rewrite.

It also makes no sense (as the tags point out) since y’know, John is supposed to be running an organization that operates in this very field of work.

I haven't seen the revival/really paid attention to the lyric changes from the radio broadcast but this is so true.

I'm really ticked about what they did to John AND trying to soften Chris because um no he done fucked up and John's being reasonable?
