Strengthening the Role of Technology Amid this Pandemic
Strengthening the Importance of Technology, A Student’s Perspective
The sudden widespread effect of COVID-19 resulted in forcing every sector to pause or stop its activities. The lives of people were all greatly affected- from the small jobs- to bigger ones; small businesses- to big corporations and even the education sector has found itself in great dilemma. It is a given fact that school closures for a very long time may have a big impact in students’ learning and may affect negatively the academic performance of the students. However, the worsening situation of COVID-19 made it still impossible to reopen schools and resume face to face classes. With the strict enforcement of stay at home, social distancing measures and school closures, the education system had made itself shift into the new normal that is far different from the traditional way of teaching.
The schools not just in the Philippines but around the world have shifted into online and remote learning to ensure that flexible teaching and learning still takes place. This new normal education is set to bridge the gaps amid the school closures and continuing the education at home for everyone’s safety. And the center of these new teaching and learning strategy is the utilization of technology- in any form that is available in your home. The use of technology on this online learning had just promoted how it is important in the field of education. The role of technology makes it easier for students to learn and for teachers to continue teaching amid this pandemic.
Personally, this online learning is quite advantageous given that we are 21st century learners in which we are all familiar with technology and how we can utilize it for learning. I have a laptop, a tablet provided by our school and a cellphone, it is a good thing that I have these at home. I can download and read the handouts uploaded by our teachers. I can research more about the required readings to have more resources and have a better understanding of the lessons. I have the means to communicate with my teachers to have a discussion of the lessons and ask questions to my classmates. For instance, most of the time the materials are not enough for us to fully comprehend the topic and we need to research more resources and have an example, that is why I find it important that we have technology at this present time. In short, I have the resources to fully utilize online learning and enjoy its advantages. However, the problem lies in the availability of load and the connectivity issue. These two were the limitation of the enjoyment of the benefits brought by technology. As a student who has no postpaid plans for WI-FI at home, I would buy a load every week to just keep myself connected- which means, I could open the google classroom, download the materials, attend classes that have google meets and research other readings related to the lesson. I ran out of load because my sister is also using it for her classes as well. There are times that there are videos our class requires us to watch and I am almost crying because my data load is not enough to finish the whole video, or I would spend an entire week to finish downloading videos to be edited as our group output because of data capping. Moreover, our area does not guarantee a best spot for a strong cellular signal which has become my number 1 problem since the start of remote learning. Most of the time I cannot attend google meet sessions because of connectivity issues and if I could attend the session, I can’t understand the discussion because it was choppy or it is already the end of the class. There are also times that I cannot send my outputs on time because of unexpected power interruptions that would last for a couple of hours. I will not deny the fact that I got overwhelmed with stress because of these issues, I would cry most of the time, or I would find myself staring blankly and thinking what ifs. “ What if we have WI-FI at home? Then, it would be easy for me to learn, I will not worry about being data capped and wait for another day for my load, or I will not worry that I have fully consumed the data allocation and nothing is left for my sister.” “What if we live in areas with better connectivity, then I will not worry to attend the google sessions and have clearer video and audio and comprehend the lesson.”
However, despite these limitations, I have learned how to compromise and maximize the available resources that I have, in which despite of these limitations, I have fully utilized the technology in online learning with minimum effects of these limitations. I have learned that as long as I have the load, I can download the materials needed, as well as do the readings and finish the required outputs while I am constantly monitoring my data in order to leave some for my sister. Sometimes, I would go to my aunt’s house to connect on their WI-FI if I need to download or watch videos, as well as to attend google meet sessions. It is also a good thing that some teachers would record their sessions in order for us to watch what they have discussed. There are also times that I would ask a friend who has WIFI at their home to do some research that I needed if I would run out of load, and I am grateful that they are always willing to do it.
The online learning had strengthened the role of technology for both students and teachers in order to bridge the gap of education and the closures of school due to COVID-19. Yes, it is advantageous if you have the resources at home, you are privileged enough but let’s always bear in my mind that this online learning is also about compromising. Not everyone has the privilege as you are. Not everyone can afford the gadget, the load or a WIFI, thus, not everyone has the equal opportunity to continue their education online. Always choose to be kind and empathetic.
The Day You Fall In Love
The day you fall in love is the day you welcome change. Love is a powerful thing. People who are in love seems to change every time. You, the day you fall in love, you welcome all the strange emotions that will camp on your heart. Happiness may will always be there, but there’s sadness that will slowly crawl into your system. Sadness about the things that will bother your thoughts about your partner, yourself and your relationship. The day you fall in love, you become contented but there will be jealousy that will come into your way. jealousy over your partner’s past or to other people that will try to get his/her attention and you feel threatened because of it. The day you fall in love you become a good person, but anger and hatred will test yourself. Anger and hatred over the things you don’t have any control. Always, remember, the day you fall in love you are no longer a single person, you both need to understand each other for your relationship to work. The day you fall in love, you should learn to accept each other’s flaws. Keep in mind that when you fall in love just fall in love- no inhibitions, just enjoy.
Screen Away
I stared on to his face while he’s so engrossed in telling about his likes, his passion, his views in life, his thoughts- his eyes were twinkling with so much enthusiasm. He’s smiling brightly while talking and from the looks on his face I can tell that he is so much in love and so positive in life. And every time he will stare on to my direction while flashing his perfect set of teeth,I can’t help but to touch his face in the screen of my laptop and began to day-dream that he is talking to me then giggle like a fool.
Ika-ala Una
Sa tuwing ika-ala una ng madaling araw,
Puso’t isipa’y naglalakbay patungo sayo.
Iyong presensiya’y pilit hinahanap,
Ngunit ‘yong nagawa at ako’y nasaktan.
Nabubuksan ang mga sugat na ‘yong iniwan,
Ang mga alaalang akala ko’y kay sayang balikan,
Parang naging isang bagay na babasagin,
Ayokong hawaka’t madama pang muli.
Strangers, Once Again
I stared directly at his eyes and the same feelings were rumbling within me. We both took step forward, and slowly and slowly, we passed by each other at the same time we both looked away.
Fan
"I'll always be your no.1 fan," said of a guy who have numerous tv shows, blockbuster movies, commercials and have millions of fans.
Petals
"He loves me not," she said as the last petal fell down.
"She loves me," said a guy handling a bouquet of white roses in her front.
If Ever
If ever that this moment would be my last breath,
I’d like to tell you that I love you with all my heart.
If ever this will be the last time, I am seeing you,
I’ll take millions of your pictures for me to look on.
If ever this will be the last time I’ll hear your voice,
I’ll listen to your talks and laughter all day.
If ever this will be the last time I can feel your touch,
I’ll embrace you never wanting to let you go.
If ever this will be the last beat of my heart,
I’ll thank God for allowing our paths to meet.
The 4 of Us
God above bless me with these people
A father so dear, willing to give his all.
A mother so caring, having so long extended patience
And a sister so persistent, we may fight but love still prevails.
People who always got my back.
Gonna be on my side in every fight.
Will wipe away the tears in my eyes,
When I can’t seem to wipe it alone.
Will ease the the pain when my heart aches,
Will Poke jokes so my heart that hurts be entertained.
Will shower me the love I deserve,
And will make me special as long as I live.
We may not be showered with plenty of money.
We may not be fortunate like other family.
But we all hold strong ties
That binds us forever and always.
No family is perfect nor no family is a pure bliss
This family may have countless fights
We may lost each other contact
But it is still the tie that will bring us back-
Back to each other arms and feel again the warmth.
Me: Moooooooooooom! oh my geeeeeeee!
Mom: What? What is it?
Me: TS6 is coming oh my geeee!
Sigaw ng Piping Puso
Ba’t nga ba t’wing ika’y makita,
puso’y napapalundag sa saya.
Nararamdama’y di mahinuha,
‘pagkat ito’y sadyang kakaiba.
Pag-ibig ba ito o paghanga?
Dahil sa iyong pagtawa,
puso’y di mapigilang humanga,
tawa mo’y saki’y may dalang sigla.
Ang mga kumikislap mong mata,
dahil sa mga ngiting ipininta,
sa iyong gwapo’t maamong mukha
na laman lagi ng aking pantasya.
Sa bawat pagpikit, iyong mukha
ang palaging lama’t nakikita,
matingnan ka lang ay okay na,
basta’t alam kong ika’y masaya.
Itong aking nararamdaman,
ito man ay maglaho’t mawala,
akin pa ring sa kanila’y ipagmalaki
na ika’y inibig tulad ng nakarami.

How to wake up easily in the mornings!
Okay, so I love to sleep (who doesn’t!?) buuuut I always find myself feeling tired during the day, and recently I’ve come up with a couple of things to do to help myself (and now, others) sleep better, feel less tired and wake up more easily!
1. Get. Enough. Sleep.
I know so many people who complain about being tired and it’s almost always because they stay up too late the night before. What they need is a sleep schedule, a set time to go to bed every night and wake up each day. I, being a young teen who can’t function without enough sleep, usually go to bed at 11 and wake up at 8 on nights that I don’t have school, and on nights that I do, I go to bed and wake up an hour earlier.
If you use your bed like a couch, use it to lounge around on your phone/ laptop on and do homework sitting on it, you brain gradually learns to associate it with those things. To make sure that your brain knows your bed is only for sleep: use it only for sleeping! Simple as that, yet most people (including myself) find it tricky.
2. Your bed is for sleeping and ONLY sleeping.
I have a bunk bed, so I use the bottom bunk for whatever I like (usually scrolling through tumblr or watching Netflix) and when I feel it’s time to go to bed, I leave my phone on my desk and climb onto the top bunk and go to sleep. Bringing your phone to bed only encourages you to go on it and before you know it, your battery is dead and it’s 4am. So don’t. Just put the phone down for once. Eventually your brain will learn that bed=sleep and you’ll be able to get to sleep faster at night.
3. Waking up effectively.
This can be separated into 3 main points:
Don’t hit snooze, this is so tempting, but getting up as soon as your alarm goes off is key to being more productive in the mornings.
Drink a glass of water as soon a you wake up, this helps you feel more refreshed and keeps you hydrated (which Tumblr seems obsessed with haha)
This one’s more specific to me, but I figured that other people might find it useful too: Put on some music when you get up, dancing around my room to it while I’m getting dressed and ready for the day puts me in a really good mood and if I’m feeling happy I’m usually more productive too! (If you want to know what I’m listening to, my Spotify is laura_ann203)
This is my first original textpost, hopefully someone found it helpful? I’ll probably be making more of these in the future.
Feel free to reblog this so that other people can use these tips too!
