Just read your introduction post and saw the plea to ask about herbs so I thought i'd give it a go: are there any funfacts about herbs you're dying to share? also, do you have a favorite herb and if so, which is it and why?

AHHH OH MY GOD OKAY.

i have drunk half a bottle of wine so pardon me for any spelling mistakes

i dont have a particular favourite but im quite partial to yarrow ! its very easy to recognise, grows about 15-20cm tall (might be wrong this is all off the dome) and looks very sturdy, the stem is thick and fairly angular and its leaves are feathered and thick, it has a very cool inflorescence consisting of rather big and, you guessed it, sturdy flowers (the centre of the flower is fairly wide (dont know any of the proper terms in english, sorry) with fairly short and round white petals) and quite possibly the coolest thing about it is that it has astringent properties, which means that chewing fresh flowers, speinkling dried flowers on a wound or some other fun methods of application stop bleeding !! for that reason it used to be called something like the soldiers medicine, because soldiers used to use it to treat wounds in the field.

another thing i recently learned isregarding chamomile and different flowers in the same genus (i believe asteraceae ?) which fall under the same category of chamomile. theres the common ones, chamaemelum nobile and matricaria chamomilia, which are used in herbal infusion (teas and the likes), and are fairly similar (theres some differences in chemical composition andmorphology, but i quite frankly do not remember them. only thing i recall is that they are mostly located in different parts of the world, and c. nobile is more often than not cultivated, while m. chamomilia grows more in the wild) but theres also plants that fall in the same category which are vastly different, such as anthemis arvensis (mayweed), which looks VERY similar to true chamomile but has markedly few healing properties, and a good way to tell it apart from true chamomile is by crushing up the flower core and smelling it; true chamomile has a somewhat floral scent, enough that you notice it, whereas mayweed has no remarkable scent. another plant thats similar to cuamomile is matricaria discoidea (pineappleweed) which smells very fruity when its core is crushed ! it has tiny tiny petals and a round, greenish core, so its easy to identify/separate from regular chamomile, but seeing as it is in the same family as m. chamomilia, its still quite similar. pineappleweed can be used to make teas, used in salads or washed and eaten as is :] apparently they taste sweet !
