I would like to remain as anonymous as possible, so you can call me D, or Viridian (my online pseudonym). I'm a 23 year old disabled trans man, living in Canada. I live in poverty due to my disabilities making it impossible for me to hold a full time job. I've been out and socially transitioned since 2018, but medically transitioning has been a series of increasingly impossible-to-navigate hurdles for me, due to being "lost in the shuffle" multiple times over the past six years. Despite starting the process to get HRT within a few months of coming out, I did not successfully get the prescription until 4 years later in 2022. I'm facing similar hurdles in accessing top surgery, which is having an extreme negative effect on my mental health. Every public clinic I try to get referred to has so far denied me due to my lack of access to a specialist who can put the request in to have the surgery covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). There are no specialists available to me in any form, and because of this it is virtually impossible for me to proceed and get my surgery covered. I am extremely large chested (DDD cups) which makes binding especially painful, and even the best binders can only reduce me to the flatness of a B cup. I also experience the other common problems of having large breasts, such as shoulder and back pain, as well as bacterial infections on my skin due to sweat in the summer. I've tried to apply for breast reductions in desperation to have at least relieve the chronic pain from my chest size, but even with OHIP coverage they demand an extra payment from my pockets of thousands of dollars for an additional contouring procedure that I neither can nor want to spend money on, as this would put me into deep debt for a chest that I don't even want. After 6 years of trying to medically transition, and over a decade of debilitating dysphoria, I'm at my wit's end with the public healthcare system and believe the only way I will ever access top surgery is if I go private and pay out of pocket, but there is no way that I would be able to save enough money for surgery alone. I have only a vague idea of how much money I need, and have set the goal at $10k. The number may change over time (likely to something lower) as I do more research. If by some miracle I surpass the amount I need for surgery and travel costs, additional money will go towards other transition-related expenses such as paying for my T, getting my sex marker changed, etc. and after that, disability-related expenses, such as the expensive braces I need for my hypermobile joints. edit: there is a small possibility that i can get OHIP coverage from an old referral (from the specialist i saw very briefly to get my HRT) that was never properly put through and my GPs office is looking into that. in that case, i will only need probably 2000 (maybe 3000?) for all the small additional things that OHIP wouldnt cover. this is the best case scenario. and again if i raise more than i need for top surgery the additional funds will go towards things like my HRT (which i pay for out of pocket every month) and disability aids that i cant afford on my own, so your donations will not go to waste in that case

not every donation needs to be 20, 50, 100 dollars. the minimum donation on gofundme is 5 dollars, but you can use kofi to make a smaller donation. even just scraping up 1, 2, 3, etc dollars to donate is not insignificant and i would deeply appreciate it. if 100 people can only manage to donate 1 dollar each, thats still 100 dollars closer to the goal than i would have been on my own

if you have access to an irl queer space where its acceptable to talk about crowdfunding i would appreciate it being shared there as well; i dont have access to spaces like that due to being poor and in a rural area

The important thing I’d note is that while this transition plan and objective set was created for Donald Trump, it is not necessarily specific to him—this is the distillation of what conservatives have wanted for a long time and WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH FOR even after Trump is no longer in the picture someday. They are proposing it now because they know Trump will be likely to enact these proposals, but understand this: the things outlined in the graphics above are the world the Republican Party envisions going forward regardless of who their candidate is. They are not going away. Unless time and time again those who oppose this vision fight the Republicans at every level of government, one by one the hard fought wins those in the past have achieved will be stripped away.

Look, I have no idea what’s going to happen at the top of the Democratic ticket. And I will be the very first to list the problems I have with the way the Democratic Party is run. But I firmly believe that helping the Democrats defeat the extremely harmful things the other side wants to do needs to be a priority, and that the only way the Democrats ARE going to get reformed and start finally listening to the people they claim to represent is by making changes while working inside and alongside the party. Remembering what stands to be lost is a good reminder on why it’s important not just to throw up our hands and say it’s all fucked and there’s no hope for politics.

Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food

grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread

different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.

some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit

SHELTER

Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment

sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it

Some churches offer short term residence

Find your nearest homeless shelter

Look for places that are open to the public

A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry

HYGIENE

A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.

Public libraries have bathrooms you can use

Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.

Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver

Local beaches, go for a quick swim

Some truck stops have showers you can pay for

Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet
