So I recently went to go look at the super Mario rpg wiki on the wishes, which included both base game and post game (plus any wishes that change throughout the story/post game)

as per usual with me, I wanted to go to read Johnnys wish. Now his wishes are both connected to Mario, even if it’s not by name.

the first wish was him wishing for a heated duel (“I’m itching for a heated duel!”) and this duel would be with Mario, and Mario only. Johnnys boss fights is unique in the regard that unlike most the bosses in the post game there is really no gimmick besides the fact it’s a one on one. Johnnys fighting style relies purely on raw strength.

Now for his second wish which was for that guy to win his fight against smithy (“I hope that guy wins his corker of a fight with the Smithy creature!”) corker, from my research and for those curious, seems to typically mean striking or exciting but can also mean something that settles or closed an argument. Basically, Johnny wishing Mario will be the one who closes the fight between him and his team vs the smithy gang. As for which I think it is, I think it could be used in either context. Johnny is rather battle hearty so a fight like this would be striking but also he would want the guy who literally made him feel the flames of combat to win.

and how do I know he is talking about Mario in his wishes? Well the first ones more open, he could be wishing to fight anyone but given the story events and how he has been waiting for Mario to show up I’m gonna assume he is talking about him. For his second wish, if you go to the wiki page, and click the ‘this guy’ bit of his dialogue, it takes you to Mario’s wiki page.

Now, why am I talking about it? Well, I just wanted too mostly, but I am also fascinated. This is the only wish in the game that actually acknowledges smithy, the closet I can think off is Mallows parents wishing for him to restore starway but they don’t mention Smithy. It makes sense Johnny would mention him as he actually came into contact with a Smithy gang member (Yaridovich/Speardovich) which is actually very uncommon in this game for someone outside the party to come face to face with someone from the Smithy gang.

Speaking of uncommon, it’s not often a wish is about someone else in particular. Mallows parents make their wishes about Mallow coming home and then fix starway, Luigi wishes to help out Mario, Jinx does mention Mario in one of his wishes as ‘our new master’ but then wishes for a new student. Johnny also makes a wish in regards to Mario, the two I’ve rambled about.

It truly does fascinate me how much Mario, a man Johnny had first underestimated, made such a huge impact on him all due to a shared love of combat. How he wished for Mario to defeat Smithy, which gets interesting when you acknowledge that when you beat Smithy,Mario wakes up in bed again as if it was a dream. Johnnys wishes aren’t ever for himself in a way, his wish is tied to Mario:

he wishes for a heated duel, his wish to fight Mario again so much so while he waited his heart had a metaphorical whirlpool within it that sucked all the joy away, how after he is beaten he wishes for Mario to win what could be considered an impossible fight given how no matter how much you fight Smithy you will never have the seventh star in your save file.

Johnny and Mario’s relationship fascinates me so much as a writer, dare I say it almost seems like Mario is a muse to him when it comes to fighting especially when he doesn’t expect much from him upon first glance.

Final thoughts: Jonario is cool but also I acknowledge how this may sound like I’m reaching or overthinking things which jokes on you that’s how I spend all of my time. I love analysing things, especially things I enjoy. If Johnny and Mario have wormed themselves into my brain I may as well have fun with it. also no I really can’t go five minutes without thinking about how Johnny telling Mario that he felt as if the joy was sucked away from his heart and then getting that joy back by fighting him/j

flowers and the queer community

As someone who's (potentially) studying horticulture next year, I wanted to see if any flower has ties to the queer community, I found quite a few so I wanted to share them

So I drew Mario and Johnny with a white rose and green carnation, I did do my best with the flowers so please forgive me if this isn't the best

Now, I'm gonna go and infodump about my findings on this topic, I'll add a keep reading bar for convenience.

I'll start with the white rose: the rose itself can be used to represent gay men or women, along with commemorate to those who've died of AIDs or violence. However, the rose is also tied to the trans community, mainly in the phrase "give us our roses while we're still here" both to memorial the trans people who've lost their life due to violence but to also celebrate those who are still alive. I chose white for the roses colour since white roses symbolise rebirth. It's on Marios hat for really no reason, other then I like how I look.

The flower Johnny has a green carnation, which when worn on the lapel symbolises being a man with a male lover. Often this is used to represent having a secret male lover. This symbolism was inspired by Oscar Wilde, a gay man who lived in the 19th century, when he had his friends wear green carnations on their lapels to his play. Since Johnny doesn't wear a suit jacket, the placement of his flower probably doesn't match the lapels location though.

For anyone's who's curious on anymore flowers with queer symbols I'd definitely recommend looking into it, as learning this information was very fun. As someone who is trans and gay (and also studying horticulture) this was really interesting.

Happy pride month

As we probably know, June is pride month (along with being other things too) and since I am in the community, have plenty of friends who are and I believe it's reflective in my art, I want to make it clear right now that my page is not the place for homophobia, transphobia or any form of bigotry.

Anyways, I have some art inspired by the vocaloid song "reverse rainbow", I took reference from the project mirai DX version of reverse rainbow, and I did try to replicate the style of the game.

Left is in my artstyle and right is an attempt at Project Mirai style

I actually really love the one the left, the one on the right isn't the best but it's a first attempt at a more chibi artstyle.

I definitely will make more art soon, I'll probably at some point illustrate my headcanons of Mario and Johnny at some point. I also will announce this now, I only have a couple more weeks at the college I'm at so when I am finished I will be posting more until September.

Rainbow dash is, well rainbow, but her coat is blue. Aj isn't red outside of her cutiemark and hair tie, but I feel like they can count as a red x blue couple.

Completely different dynamic here (and I'm mentioning them on behalf of my best friend) Spiderman wears blue (and red but shush), deadpool wears red so spideypool is also red and blue

I was gonna draw this but the sketching was too intimidating for me since the art would be very crowded so you’re just getting some photography with the help of my singular Johnny plushie and my many Mario plushies. it took longer then it should to figure out how to pose them and even then I still am not the biggest fan of it but it will have to do. I knew what to do with regular Mario, cat Mario and tanooki Mario but not for fire Mario or penguin Mario (especially given how penguin Mario is what I’d classify as the runt, he is tiny) But I did my best, that’s all I can do.

Mermaid? More like Mermay

Now I'm not actually partaking in Mermay, I am unsure if I could actually handle an art month challenge (I think my limit is a art week challenge) but I wanted to use the excuse to draw a headcanon.

It was a small challenge doing this as I did try to stick to his colour palette so he can still be recognizable, what was more of trouble though was the posing (the posing was a nightmare)

I should clarify, the shark skin is off, the main indication of that is the spines on Johnny's back, overall I like this design I did for him.

Also don't worry about Mario, the shock wears off fast.

I wanted to draw Mario and Johnny being affectionate, so here is them kissing (sorta)

Johnny isn't kissing Marios neck, this isn't that intense, I tried to replicate how sharks bump against divers so this is more like a nuzzle then a kiss. I didn't know what to do for Mario though but I figured a hand kiss would work, suits Marios character since he's a gentleman.

Oh and here's them kissing eachother, albeit behind Marios hat.

"A... Handshake?"- Jonathan 'Johnny' Jones

These two (in my art at least) have kissed, fused, hold hands and plenty more yet Mario still gives him the awkward handshake.

This was inspired by the Mario movie, I did consider drawing a character or two in the background who would look disappointed at Mario and his 'flirting attempt' but decided against it.

The little flames is just me having fun with the idea of Marios fire magic flaring up when he's embarrassed, I think the idea is cute.

Eventually Mario will get better at not doing this... Eventually.

More art of my Jonario fusion- Captain sealegs

I've been in a small artblock and decided to draw him, he has a fun design even if it is a little complex

I also have finally given him a weapon, a combination of Marios hammer and Johnny's trident. I imagine they'd spin it to whichever is more convenient in the moment

Since the body and face is a lot of Mario I did try to make them have elements of Johnny's, they both have such different designs that they're hard to combine like this but I love how I designed sealegs.

They've got too much passion and energy for their own good, Johnny and Mario are burnt out when they're out of this form. Ouch.

I saw the Mario movie today so I will probably make my review on it soon once all the adrenaline dies down and since may has a lot of mermaid associations I do have a couple plans.

Whoops, okay I've rambled for long enough! End of story: I'm definitely drawing captain sealegs more.

Over the last couple days I’ve writing a multi chapter fic, journey to Ogygia.

It is a Johnny/Mario fic where Johnny and Mario sail to Ogygia and they confront their feelings of each other.

I wanted a way to discuss my main reason for enjoying Jonario other the just pulling the “I like it” card (which is also true)

so here is my simple Jonario rant

I hope this is readable, I made this on ibis paint at night because I couldn’t sleep whoops.

I noticed the colour thing recently and it made me lose my mind because they’re colours are similar but in different hues which makes them (to me) feel similar but still individual.

Hey did anyone else encounter this?

so I’ve been replaying Super Mario rpg lately before I do a Mario solo run (which will be my first ever challenge run) and I have gotten the fifth star today and encountered a very odd scene that I haven’t seen anyone else experience nor something I experienced myself in any prior save files.

It’s very odd but specific scene since I’ve never seen anyone else get it, all I did was interact with Johnny after beating him the first time and Mario just gave him a cheek kiss

Jonario art that wasn't meant to be showman-like but it got progressively more like that.

They're probably hosting some fighting tournament and it sounds like such a good time

I mean, they are both strong dudes with an enjoyment for battling; if these two were the hosts of a round-robin brawl or something, I'd likely go watch it.

I wonder what sorta quirks or gimmicks would be involved? At the very least, they would have to be 'boss fights' for challengers. I don't care if they're on their own or together fighting, it's gonna a good time either way.

Also they are holding hands, I know, how scandalous of them! In front of the audience and contestants, truly the most graphic thing about this fighting tournament.
