An important but very random question:

I have a reason for asking this: if you were at the top of a mountain and you had your instrument with you, what piece would you play? Or would you sing? Or would you prefer to improvise on the spot?

If I had a piano, I’d improvise a piece. But if I had my cello, I’d probably play the first movement of Beethoven’s 3rd cello sonata.

I re-read and edited that sentence for an hour, but you’ll probably just glance over it for half a second.

I have a stock format and structure I use.

Dear Person I am Writing To:

This is an optional sentence introducing who I am and work for, included if the addressee has never corresponded with me before. The second optional sentence reminds the person where we met, if relevant. This sentence states the purpose of the email.

This optional paragraph describes in more detail what’s needed. This sentence discusses relevant information like how soon an answer is needed, what kind of an answer is needed, and any information that the other person might find useful. If there’s a lot of information, it’s a good idea to separate this paragraph into two or three paragraphs to avoid having a Wall of Text.

If a description paragraph was used, close with a restatement of the initial request, in case the addressee ignored the opening paragraph.

This sentence is just a platitude (usually thanking them for their time) because people think I’m standoffish, unreasonably demanding, or cold if it’s not included.

Closing salutation,

Signature.

People always ask me how I can fire off work emails so quickly. Nobody has figured out yet that it’s the same email with the details changed as needed.

Okay so I played my first solo in front of a significantly large crowd last night and was nervous as all hell and basically embarrassed the entire band but that’s a different story

But in the piece I played toward the end there’s a really dissonant chord followed by like two measures of silence

And so we get to this point in the piece and during the silent part some lady STARTS CLAPPING LIKE IT’S THE END OF THE PIECE???

And it’s a HUGE pet peeve of mine when people clap early or between movements and such

SO I FUCKING LOOK UP AT HER AND WAVE MY MALLET AT HER AND SAY “NO” IN THE MIDDLE OF A TWO MEASURE BREAK DURING THE PERFORMANCE OF MY SOLO and finish playing my solo without skipping a beat

And I’m dead inside.

Ok so I'm a cellist and I was playing the Hindemith solo sonata op. 25 in a concert and there were a few children in the audience. The third movement of this sonata is incredibly quite and it has two very different parts, so between them I like to take some time. And somehow, in that very small moment of silence a kid that was sitting in the crowd told his mother: "Mummy, I want this to stop..."

okay, so the reason the “french horn” emoji is

1. with all the mail emojis and not with the other instruments

and 2. doesn’t look exactly like a modern-day horn

is because it is meant to be a postal horn

which was used (mostly) in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to signal the arrival or departure of a post rider or mail coach, hence it’s place with all the mail emojis

Just had my final playing axem of the year. I was so stressed for it, I was sure I was going to play horrible in this exam . But it went fine. It went good!!!!! I wasn't nervous during the actual exam and I felt completely focused and in control. I wes playing Bach 5, Beethoven 4 and the Dvorak concerto. For people who don't play the cello — I promise you, this is a difficult program. But now I'm done with it!! I feel so free!! And on Friday I'm traveling to London for three days, to play a concert (with a group) in Wigmore Hall! I'm sooo happy!! feel like this is my reward for somehow surviving this incredibly difficult year :) By the way, I'm still looking for suggestions for cool things to do in London!

Hi random people :) I will be in London for 3.5 days soon (24-27.6.16) for a concert (in Wigmore Hall!). We're also doing some rehearsals there so I'm not going to have much free time, but I want to take advantage of every minute I'm there. Any suggestions for cool things to do while I'm there? I like music, Art, History etc, but for the short period of time I'm there I think I prefer doing stuff that will help me feel the vibe of the city... if that somehow makes sense to you :)
