Curating marathon workshop - we got split into teams and then were given a sample of 20 images. We had to choose from them and manipulate them to create at least 6 final images which we would present like in a gallery space. They needed a coherant and overarching theme running through them and our group chose the direction of lines within the images, highlighting them through pink to guide the viewers eye.
Angry mob two line - changing the atmosphere through change of colour + possible removal of marks to make a concentrated beam of hatred for person at the front when they announce that they they're not waiting for anything. Like block red best, think it's the densest and most obvious change + if i exclude dude at front then it will even more pointed that only characters behind him are feeling this dense red cloud
Two colour experiments - adding more depth and tone like this + adds visual focus, think it is the most successful of the two. Like the screenprint feel to it as well.
One colour experiment - looking at how using only one colour i can make a coherent image + differentiate between background and characters
No line experiments - also a tracing paper scan but remove the line as a layer and keep only the block colours. Think it’s a nice and funky dynamic but overall image looks a bit childish and so doesn’t lend itself well to the feel of the project that I am trying to convey.
Like the neg space use for shape of platform + makes me chortles that they look like orange segments on the run
Block colour experiments - tried to infuse more action with getting the layers a bit off-set from each other, think it was quite effective but too much can get quite messy, especially if the background it also moving around a bit too much
Block colour experiments - tracing paper scan technique and playing around with colour palette. Works best when there is colour link between characters and platform - makes them seem more part of the same world.
Last one favourite - they are appropriately doom and gloomy but platform brightness makes image non-depressive
Issue - too static + background block shapes detracting from overall effect, accidentally looks like skull in some of them
Alien landing - one of my motherboard experiments kind of looked like a vessel + i discovered the “difference” layer masker on photoshop which made for a lot of fun experimenting! Quite like the idea of aliens deciding to land in lidl to see what’s going on since the queues reach all the way out to their travelling zones, perhaps follow this narrative possibility a little bit to see if it is something that entices me?
Strange queues - adding context to give them some meaning, liking the humour touch + absurdity of such long queues that they reach into the heavens. Also really enjoying the narrative possibilities of the queues on strange constructions but don’t want to limit myself to that just yet. Maybe I should focus on my Lidlr a little more? is there space for face detail?
Motherboards - following the techno feel to create continuous lines (looking at stupidity of queues), have kind of alien feeling to them but a bit strangely soft as they are made with a very human kind of line (more childish than foreign). Use them as paths for queues? Make spaceships? Not entirely sure yet where this direction is taking me.
Scaffolding constructions - next logical step from the hand drawn stuff, made some shapes and then had fun building with them. Kind of went in a techno direction which I like -maybe something to explore further?
Crazy colourful lines - looking at these continuous structures and playing with platform and line and depth, really like the multilayered outcomes + when the lines don’t exactly match up and it creates a new space
