Lesser-acknowledged varieties of film appreciation

I’d be willing to see it again for the sake of showing it to someone who hasn’t, but wouldn’t undertake repeat viewings of my own initiative

Viewing it was an incredible and life-changing experience and I absolutely never want to see it again

I very much enjoy the version of the film I made up in my head, and sometimes forget that the film that was actually made is nothing like it

My first exposure to the film’s cast of characters was via weird Internet porn, and I can’t watch it without that in the back of my mind

I’ve seen it easily a dozen times, but inexplicably cannot recall a single detail about its plot, characters or setting when prompted

I’m really into one specific scene, and just sort of tolerate the other 90% of its running time for the sake of providing needed context

The very notion of the film so repulsed me that I hate-read the reviews so I could talk informed trash about it without having to actually watch it

I just read the Wikipedia article so I could understand the memes

This blogger watched friends dive into the creation process so heartily and determinedly that they all but disappeared from the writing/gaming/artistic side of their fandom for YEARS while they worked to make the archive happen.

This blogger remembers the sense of giddy wonder that there would possibly be LAWYERS involved, willing to defend our right to create these works, and not leave us hanging at the mercy of corporate legal teams.

This blogger is aware that she reads between twenty to fifty books’ worth of material every year on AO3, and is never REQUIRED to pay a penny for the privilege of getting access.

This blogger is aware that she will not ever see advertisements on AO3, and that her personal data and reading preferences won’t be sold to advertisers in order to raise the money that AO3 needs to pay for the services they provide.

This blogger is aware that AO3 is, and has always been, a labor of love; by fans, for fans, and not for profiting off fans – and this is what makes it unique in the whole of the media universe.

This blogger has NEVER taken AO3 for granted, and has ALWAYS been damned glad to have access to it. Even in years when this blogger didn’t have the means to support it financially.

Because of social networking platforms like tumblr and twitter, ‘regular people’ can become the focus of parasocial relationships. Tumblr makes it especially wild to watch this shit unfold, because of call out culture and whatnot. People who aren’t trying to be like. Famous or a role model or what have you get put up on a pedestal. Then when they err, or even apropos of nothing in particular, it will be decided that they are undeserving of the attention they get and now they must be set down and know their place.

It’s hard enough to watch everybody tear into a celebrity, but at least celebrities have like. PR teams and attorneys and security and assistants to filter this shit for them. Regular folks who have become an object of ire on tumblr or w/e have to deal with it themselves. It’s so fucking hard to watch. I can’t imagine dealing with it personally and coming through it okay.

we are fucked

i mentioned the possibility of this happening in my last post but i had no idea it would be this bad. we are being put in a desperate situation because of the incompetency of the educational system and we will be evicted once this financial aid gets taken away. we are students living off of one disability income and student aid. basically what happened was we went to the financial aid office at my wife’s college and asked REPEATEDLY whether or not it would be okay for her to drop a class which they assured her time and time again that there would be no problem doing so. after she had already dropped it they suddenly say it’s a problem and that she MIGHT owe back money that already has gone to rent and bills. we will have no way to pay our rent if and WHEN the aid gets taken away. i am unable to get a job without her SSI being taken away. we have no support from family or anyone local to help us through this situation so i have to turn to you guys again. we need 1016.00 within 45 days or we will have no means of living. im trying to get back into school but that’s a long process that is complicated now that im married. literally days after our wedding and have to deal with all of this.

if you want to be rude, just don’t. this really is no fault of our own because we had talked to several people at the college who assured us it would be fine without explaining anything about having to owe back money and giving misinformation after misinformation, which now is somehow our fault and no one will listen to anything we have to say after spending all day at the college. WE WOULD DO ANYTHING EVEN PAY SOMEONE BACK THE MONEY if her aid wasn’t taken away we would be able to pay back this amount, but they are saying it needs to be paid within 45 days which wouldn’t be enough time.

im desperate for this to be over with. we were hoping to be financially stable finally until this happened and as a gay couple no one wants to help or deal with us. we’re basically cornered. let me know if i can do ANYTHING, and absolutely anything would help to get out of this debt even the change you have leftover in your account. i can write, help with homework, i can do pretty much anything.

And if you cant or dont want to help, PLEASE at least reblog. im sure a lot of other people have been in this situation or similar but after everything we’ve been through i don’t want to have to lose the only stability we have and have to give our animals to others or away.
