Custom and Loopy pt 2
Okay... Where was I?
Yes, I had all the parts and was ready to go, all I needed was time and motivation.
About a month later (Okay, one part of that is I like to have spare time to do things, The other was recovering from my sight being wonky after finding out I have type 2 Diabetes)... I manged to sit down and start to bend pipe using this heat "gun" to bend the pipe. It not too bad to use (I had raise it up on books to use it, and not mind the hot air being blasted into my chest. The hardest part I found was getting the silicon insert to go into the pipe. After taking some diffent points of advice from youtube (liquid soap, Soapy water, sanding the insert) I managed to get it to work. Now, I will say this, bending hard tube is remarkably easy, getting it to fit, that is the biggest challange.
I free-bend the pipe in the end, I did conceptulize what bends I would need and where using pipe cleaners and drawing out a guide (which I did use on the pipe from the graphics card to the drain and to the pump), but found it quicker to eyeball the bend and plan my bends by putting the pipe in the system and going from there (fun fact: it is easier to insert the silicon insert back into the pipe when you have a bend in it, at least it was for me). The only things I will add on bending pipe:
If muck up the bend, resist the urge to thow it away, sometimes that bend can end up useful elsewhere or can be adjusted with counter-bends.
It is better to overcut than it is to undercut, it helps in the fitting process, believe me.
It is better to under-bend than to over-bend, which makes sense with the next point.
PETG CAN FLEX! That last bend was 1-2 milimeter out? Don't panic! Put some light pressure on the pipe and it will go in (unless you undercut, in that case, start over or see if you can add some slack)
"Long pipe is easier than short pipe" would not make sense right? "All I need is one bend in a short piece of pipe and then I am home free" right? until you realise that the flex in PETG is proportional to the length of the pipe.
Sandpaper is handy to have when using a chamfer tool. it helps remove the chatter and burrs left behind.
Research is important! I don't think I would of got this project of mine done without it, JayzTwoCents has good advice, along with these Videos I found were helpful.
That was it with hard tubing, in the end, it was not that bad of an experience, the only other thing would be to spend the money and get mayhems Blitz to clean out your radiators and the loop. It is worth the trouble, I assure you.
The only problems I had with it was routing all the cables in the tower (I can see the point of using a full tower with water cooling now.), and a faulty power supply, the computer powered up fine, but, whenever I put some load on the graphics card, the computer would turn off. So I bought a new power supply, found out that the new PSU was LONGER, but, it worked fine with the new power supply. So I had to remove the Hard drive cage to fit it in (sigh), problem, one of the screws was under the water pump, so, I had to drain the system, remove some pipe, unscrew the pump to remove the cage to install the power supply (groan). After going though all this annoyance, I decided to replace the flow meter which was working fine when I tested it initally, kept sticking with the coolant, which was odd, but, as I read, it was better to not have it, so, I removed it.
I did also have a red light strip initally, but thought it might be best to shift it over to the right side of the case so I would have light leaking out instead this bright red light. Might of worked. . . if the wires didn't fray and filled the room with the smell of burning plastic.
So, I now have a working computer! Which is a big black and red glowing monstrosity. It was fustrating at the time, but, I must confess it was fun. At the moment, I am fighting the *urge* to shift it into a bigger tower and add another graphics card. probably down the track... Maybe.
I have the complete computer up in PC part Picker if you want to have a look, or come from there (Hi!) to read my rant on tumblr
BTW, #I_am_still_here.
Custom and Loopy pt 1
It all started with the errant thought: "I wonder how hard it would be to build a custom water cooling loop?"
I initially stamped it down with the plans of travel to Japan again, but, after I put that off (again), the spectre of the custom water loop came back to my mind.
After I decided to spread the spending over a few paychecks I dove in and never looked back. I started with a tower, then moved onto some customisations and such, fans, after finding out the case did not come with front fans (low grumble), only a solitary fan. And a LED strip by Phobya.
Originally, I was going to wait for the new Ryzen 2 to come out, but, thinking that the current motherboards should be "fine", decided to buy one and not wait (I found out after that there would be a new gen of motherboards to go with it, but, it was special at the time and went with it in the end).
Now, I will confess here, I am a AMD fan, graphics and processor. All the computers that I have built so far have been AMD boxes and while I will admit that it was not the smoothest ride, I am happy with their products. I also have a Freesync monitor that I am currently using and while I did consider going to Nividia in this build, I managed to buy a second-hand Vega 64 during the cryptocurrency craze, though I managed to get it cheaper ($1000) than what they are now new, so I have no regrets on that front.
I purchased the waterblocks and the power supply not long after that, and as the price dropped on a Ryzen 1700X I decided that I may as well get the old gen processor to go with the old gen motherboard.
I also was using partpicker during this process, which was a help in the picking of parts and finding the best price, along with a quick check on ebay to see if I can get a better price there. I add my original part list here, the price is not exact, you would need to add an extra $300 or so on top to include the fittings, pipes, pump and sleaved cables and fan cables.
So, while I do consider myself to be slightly "loopy" for taking on this task, I am not going to go into that just yet, I will just cover the "Buying" part, I cover the building part in a separate post. So don't panic, readers, #Iamstillhere.

Noting this. Loved the anime, knowing that there is a manga makes it more exciting!
Hi...
Initally, I was going use my Tumblr account to talk about Social Science-y stuff... hence the the title âlost in ethnocentrismâ, which, most people would identify with the expression, âLost in translationâ. In a way, both those statements are one and the same.
The statement, âlost in translationâ is usually used when something within another culture or society loses some of itâs meaning, in a metaphorical sense like a cultural twin has a third arm that makes perfect sense and is useful but itâs twin in another group has a related purpose but has managed without the third arm because... Well, we prefer it that way, so there.
Ethnocentrism is where you view another culture within another cultureâs frame point, so using the previous metaphor, it would be one twin with the third arm looking at the other twin and coming to the conclusion that his twin is really weird that he can work the way that he can because he doesnât have the extra arm and the other twin looking at his three arm brother and thinking exactly the same thing, only the opposite.
So, what would âLost in ethnocentrismâ be? Should the statement evoke dark emotions about the opinions of one group overshadow another group or should the phrase force people to stop and consider the Ethnocentric aspect of themselves and go âYes, there are times I can be ethnocentricâ. The only ruling I need to stress here is that ethnocentric is not racism and the two should be considered separate from each other, what separates the two is ethnocentric would look at someone, for the sake of an example, wearing underwear on their head, Ethnocentrism would look at the person and comment on the shear ridiculousness of wearing underwear on their head and comment that is utterly weird that it would be worn there, missing the reason and purposes (I am sure, gentle reader, you can think of a practical purpose!) for doing so. Now the difference, would be that racism would look at the same scene and would mock/laugh/insult and exclaim that people that wear underwear over their posteriors are more superior/intelligent/developed/affluent then the idiots that think it is better to wear underwear on their heads! Social scientists do regard ethnocentrism with the same regard polite society consider âracismâ and hope to bring it under manageable levels, but, that is where the similarities end... Â
Now that I have had my little... Rant/explanation (Yeah, I did study social science at university and it did go beyond little... Sorry!) I am Shadowblade_mh and am a nerd (obviously). I have range of interests, I enjoy playing video games, I donât have any set genre that I play, it generally depends on the mood I am in at the time. I do get a sense of enjoyment out of Japanese comics and Japanese pop culture, but, I do like DC and Mavel comics, maybe not as strongly (prefer story over characters. I believe that DC/Marvel comics can be tied too strongly focus on character over telling a good story) I do like Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy, I do have a collection of DC âAzraelâ comics along with a short series that I liked (I canât remember the name). I also enjoy role-playing games (computer and tabletop) and have jumped onto the bandwagon with card/board games. In the past I have been involved in a Lapidary club (look at this if you want to know what it is) but, currently, because of other commitments, I have yet to pick it back up again (Just need the work space and the time...). I do enjoy looking at sub-cultures with a social scientist eye, so I probably would post a rant about it at some point, I just need a... less costly source of internet.Â
